  • Death: She died on April 7, 2016, at age 85, in Appleton, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Jean E. Van Der Loop, age 85, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 3, 1930 to the late Brace and Eleanor (Braumandl) Getschow in Appleton. On June 23, 1951, she married Robert Van Der Loop.

    Jean accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and her relationship with the Lord was very important to her. Jean and Robert were active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton and the Neenah YMCA. For 20 years, Jean owned and operated The Chocolate Habit, a woman's dress shop, in downtown Appleton. Together, they spent the last 18 years residing half the year in Florida. She enjoyed reading, swimming, playing cards and shopping. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great -grandchildren.

    She is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Robert, her children; Timothy (Jolene), Appleton, Lynn Cottrell, Oshkosh, Sara Thomas, Appleton, and Mary (Jay) Kraft, Caledonia, WI, her grandchildren; Nathan (Jennifer) Van Der Loop, Brianna (Jim) Ring, Dylan (Danielle) Van Der Loop, Gavin Van Der Loop, Alson Cottrell, Shauna Cottrell, Ambyre (Kyle) Calmes, Eric Thomas, Zachary (fiancé Kim Ringer) Thomas, Santria Kraft and Michael Kraft and nine great grandchildren. Jean is further survived by brothers and sisters; Reuben (Jackie) Getschow, Sue (Thom) Miron, Joe (Petrice) Getschow and Gail (George) King, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

    A funeral liturgy for Jean will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W. Lawrence St, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary OFM CAP officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's name to: St. Joseph Food Program, 1465 Opportunity Way, Menasha, WI 54952.

    The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the St. Elizabeth Hospital ER and ICU staff for the care and compassion shown to Jean and her family.

  • Note: Richard J. Flenz, age 86, of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Renaissance Assisted Living in Appleton. He was born on January 30, 1926, in Little Chute, the son of the late Albert and Anna (Lensen) Flenz. On August 9, 1947, Richard married Leone E. Fahrenkrug at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. She preceded him in death on May 28, 2005, after 57 wonderful years of marriage. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Johnston-Blessman Post 38 American Legion in Appleton. Richard was employed at Wisconsin Michigan Power Company, now known as WE Energies. He was a faithful member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church since 1958, and was involved with ushering, counting the offerings, folding the church bulletins, and the choir.

    Richard is survived by his children: Mary Ann (James) Langlois; Donna Flenz; Bonnie (Robert) Darrow; and Donald J. (Stephanie) Flenz; grandchildren: Erik Shaw and Erin (Chris) Ramirez; Nicole (Scott) Boesch, Daniel (Sara) Langlois and Jennifer (John) Heimann; Brett Terrien and Jill (Craig) Baumeister; Andrew (Chris) Flenz and Donald R. Flenz; step-grandchildren: Jesse, Cole, and Benjamin Cotherman; and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter, Janice Flenz Shaw.

    The funeral service for Richard will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade Street, Appleton. Rev. Dee Sim will be officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.     Leone E. Flenz, age 77, of Appleton, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born April 25, 1928, in Nichols, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Loretta (Liesch) Fahrenkrug. Leone was a 1946 graduate of Appleton High School, and following graduation became employed for Wisconsin Michigan Power Company (now WE Energies). While working at the power company she met Richard J. “Dick” Flenz and they were later united in marriage on August 9, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton. Leone and Dick were blessed with five children, and Leone was a stay at home mother, while Dick continued working for the power company. In 1970, Leone began working at Mrs. Karl’s Bakery, and retired from the bakery in 1988. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crafts, and was a polling volunteer for local elections. Dick and Leone were members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and Leone was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Day Break singers, and her greatest love was the time she enjoyed with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

    Survivors include her husband, Richard J. Flenz, of Appleton; her children, Janice M. (Gary) Shaw, of Kimberly, Mary Ann (James) Langlois, of Appleton, Donna J. Flenz, of Tucson, Ariz., Bonnie L. (Robert) Darrow, of Green Bay, and Donald J. (Debra) Flenz, of Little Chute. Her grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Jezeski, Erik (fiance’- Kelly) Shaw, Nicole (Scott) Boesch, Daniel (Sara) Langlois, Jennifer (John) Heimann, Brett (fiance’-Sara) Terrien, Andrew (Chris) Flenz, Donald R. (Amy) Flenz, and Jill (Craig) Baumeister; there are 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Adeline (Rev. Warren) Pechman and Dorothy (Rev. James) Seiffert, all of Oregon; and nieces and nephews. Leone was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Alice Fahrenkrug, and her father and mother-in-law, Albert and Anna Flenz.


    Funeral services for Leone will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005, at OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3009 North Meade Street, Appleton. Rev. Dennis Ellisen will officiate. Entombment will take place in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of services directly at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leone’s name may be sent to St. Elizabeth Hospital, c/o Pediatric Unit, 1506 South Oneida Street, Appleton, WI, 54915, because of her love of children.

She was born July 17, 1971 in Appleton, the daughter of Dennis and Sharon Wulterkens Lenz. Jessie graduated from Kimberly High School in 1989. She married Paul Ver Voort on Sept. 19, 1992. Since 1990, she was employed at Electronic Assembly, Neenah. She is survived by her husband of three years, Paul Ver Voort; her parents, Dennis and Sharon Lenz, Combined Locks; her paternal grandparents, Cletus and Marie Lenz, Little Chute; a brother and sister-in-law Bret and Ann Lenz, Kimberly; her father and mother-in-law Donald and Janet Ver Voort, Menasha; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Conrad and Dolores Wulterkens and an uncle, Don Wulterkens. The memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday (today), Aug. 23, 1996 at the Fargo Funeral Home with Fr. David Hoffman officiating. Inurnment will be in Union Cemetery, Kaukauna. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W. Wis. Ave., Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. on Friday (today) until the time of service. Jessie will be cremated and there will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.
