    Appleton

    Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, age 94, died at her home on Thursday, August 28, 2003. Alice was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin on July 25, 1909, daughter of the late Emil and Emma (Krebser) Wurdinger. She married Earl Moritz on August 2, 1929. They enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on June 2, 1999. Alice was a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge for 62 years. She loved gardening, fishing, traveling and spending time with her family.

    Alice will be greatly missed by her son, Marvin (Carol) Moritz, Bothell, Washington her daughter, Leah (Bill) Totzke, Appleton her sister, Adele (Melvin) Hildebrandt 11 grandchildren, David and Debra Moritz Douglas (Sandra) Moritz, their children, Sean and Lendell Dean (Donna) Moritz, their children, Daniel and Jessica Dawn (Douglas) Keller, their children, Danielle, John and Jason Denise (Kent) Smutny, their children, Kirsten and Eric Dominick Moritz Julea (David) Wille, their children, Christine, Andrew and Michael Jon (Anne Marie) Totzke James Totzke, his children, Kayla, Britni and Nathan Jenean (Edward) Hodge, their children, Alexander, Nicholas and Lauren two brothers-in-law, Woodrow Wehrman Mose (Rose) Moritz and two sisters-in-law, Corky, and Carol Wurdinger. She is further survived by her special cousin, Edna Berndt many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Alice was preceded in death by her five brothers, Everett (Nellie) Robert (Rita) George, John (Jackie) and Ralph Wurdinger two sisters, Gertrude (Walter) Gast Arlene (Harold) Voeks her infant granddaughter and sister-in-law, Harriet Wehrman.

    The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton, with Rev. John T. McFadden officiating. Visitors will be received at the church on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 9:30 am to 10:45 a.m. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

    Age 91, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Earl was born on May 23, 1908 in Catawaba, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Laura [Fredrick] Moritz. On August 2, 1929 he married Alice Wurdinger at the First Congregational Church in Waukegan, Illinois. Earl worked at Giddings & Lewis until retiring for the first time at age 65. He then worked at Spencer-Johnson for 17 years until finally really retiring. He and Alice built their home in 1955 and are still living there today. Earl was a jack of all trades. He was a long time member of the Konemic Lodge # 47 and a member of the Green Bay Encampment of the I.O.O.F. in which he held many offices. Earl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards, but his favorites were fishing and hunting.

    Earl is survived by his wife Alice, a son, Marvin [Carol] Moritz, Bothell, Washington; a daughter, Leah [Bill] Totzke, Appleton; 11 grandchildren; David Moritz, Debra Moritz, Douglas [Sandra] Moritz, Dean [Donna] Moritz, Dawn [Douglas] Keller, Denise [Kent] Smutny, Dominick Moritz, Julea [David] Wille, Jon [Anne Marie] Totzke, James Totzke, and Jenean [Edward] Hodge; 17 great grandchildren; Sean, Lendell, Daniel, Jessica, Danielle, John, Jason, Eric, Kirsten, Christine, Andrew, Michael, Nathan, Kalia, Britni, Alexander and Nicholas; a brother, R.M. [Rose] Moritz, Colorado; and a sister, Harriet [Woodrow] Wehrman, Menasha. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, Marvin, and an infant granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 7, 1999 at 11 a.m. at First Congregational UCC, 724 E. S. River St., Appleton, with Rev. John T. McFadden officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

    Age 66, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, July 20, 1985 following a short illness. He was born December 2, 1919 in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of the late William and Rosella Riley. He was married to Evelyn [DeGroot], Combined Locks, November 4, 1941. He was a retail salesman in Appleton area all of his life. He was a beloved husband and father and known for his wonderful sense of humor. William served in the Army Air Corp. serving in the Southern Phillipines, Liberation; Asiatic Pacific Theatre; and American Theatre. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church.

    Survivors are his wife, Evelyn; one son and daughter in-law, William and Elizabeth Riley, Appleton; three daughters and sons in-law, Donald and Sharon Fries, Combined Locks; Thomas and Patricia Johnson, Washington D.C.; Peter and Laurie Hermes, Appleton; two brothers and sisters in-law, Michael and Mary Alice Riley, Montana; Thomas and Lucille Riley, Appleton; one sister and brother in-law, Edward and Roseanne 'Mickey' Milbach, Appleton; 11 grandchildren; Wendy, David and Timothy Fries; Christopher, Todd, Shawn and John Scott Johnson; Kelly and Kristin Riley; Ashley and Jason Hermes.

    Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church, with Rev. Ronald Columbo officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Tretton-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Wake services will be held Tuesday 8 p.m.

    Van Nuland, Marie F.


    Marie Frances Van Nuland, age 97, formerly of Kimberly and a resident of Living Tree Estates, Greenville, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Living Tree Estates. Marie was born on February 28, 1912, in Lithoijen, Netherlands, daughter of the late Franciscus and Marie (Zeegers) Vander Weilen. Her family immigrated to Kimberly in 1923. She married John T. Van Nuland on June 25, 1934, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. John preceded Marie in death on February 6, 1989, after almost 55 years of marriage.

    Marie was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Parish for 86 years. She loved her family and enjoyed the yearly reunions with her children and grandchildren. Marie was proud of her Dutch heritage and she and John traveled back to The Netherlands several times. After John retired, they both learned to play golf and enjoyed it year round, wintering in Florida, where Marie made a hole-in-one at Betmar. She was an avid card player and always ready for a Sheepshead game, once winning the Kimberly tournament. She also played Cribbage and Skipbo, challenging her family to many games. She enjoyed playing Solitaire on her computer. Everyone appreciated her quick wit. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

    Survivors include seven children: Mary Pecore, Two Rivers; Harry (Sally) Van Nuland, Neenah and Zephyrhills, FL; Janet (Vern) Griesbach, Black Creek; John (Eileen) Van Nuland, Little Chute; Ed Van Nuland, Atlanta, GA; Margie (Steve) Van Thiel, Greenville; and Steve (Missy) Van Nuland, Oshkosh. Seventeen grandchildren: Katie (Jeff) Willoughby, Rick (Michelle) Pecore, Craig (Felicia) Pecore and Drew (Emily) Pecore; Greg Van Nuland, Colleen (Terry) Klein, Mark (Kathy) Van Nuland, Dean (Michelle) Van Nuland, Mike (Penny) Van Nuland and Luke (Erin) Van Nuland; Maria Griesbach, Jill (Don) Melichar and John (Julie) Griesbach; Amy (Randy) Romenesko and Sara (Mike) Brandfon; Gina Van Thiel and Jared (Rachel Hart) Van Thiel. Twenty-six great-grandchildren: Eden, Katelyn and Adam Willoughby, Evan and Ellie Pecore, Willow Pecore; Bret and Chad Van Nuland, Sheila (Ian) Schiesl, Deanna (Dan) Coonen and Stephan (Sarah) Klein; Amanda, Jonathon and Abigail Van Nuland; Katie, Carly and Brianna Van Nuland; Nicole Van Nuland and Vincent Van Nuland; Megan and Nathan Melichar, Amy and Jessie Griesbach; Nick and Macey Romenesko; Sammy Boettcher; two great-great-grandchildren: Drizzt and Layla Schiesl; two step-grandchildren: Jacob and James Schlotthauer and four stepgreat-grandchildren: Alexandra and Riley Sutika and Nikki and Jaden O'Day; three stepgreat-grandchildren: Kevin, Issac and Lance Coonen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Don Lamers, Sun Prairie, WI. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive.

    Marie was preceded in death by four grandchildren: Brad Pecore, Judy Griesbach, Joe and Ann Van Nuland; five brothers and their spouses: Pete and Agnes Vander Wielen, Tony and Anna, John and Crescentia, Joe and Liz, Mart and Dora, two infant brothers, Henry and Adrian; three sisters and their spouses: Nellie and Pete Van Heertum, Johanna and Jacob Van Den Berg, Frances and John Broeksteeg; also five brothers-in-law and their spouses: Jake and Verna Van Nuland, Harry and Ethel, Maurice and Loretta, Mart and Nelly, Joe and Dorothy; five sisters-in-law and their spouses: Catherine and Leo Vander Putten, Dorothy and Tony Eltink, Marie and Rich Bongers, Cora and Bud Rupple, Anna and Clair Doerfler; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hendricus and Johanna (Van Driel) Van Nuland.

David Beaudry officiating the Funeral Liturgy and the Mass of Christian Burial. Graveside services will take place at Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly immediately following Mass.
