  • Note: Solie, Riley 1993 - Appleton Post Crescent ; Riley F. Solie, 914 E. Hancock St. Appleton Age 71 passed away unexpectedly at Reid Municipal Golf Course, Thursday June 24, 1993. He was born January 11, 1922 in Cornell, WI the son of the late Gustav A. and Kathryn (Stein) Solie. On August 21, 1948 Riley married the former Carole A. Wilpolt in Kaukauna, she survives. A 1949 graduate of Lawrence College, Riley was employed for many years by Fore Way Express as a truck driver. He currently was working part time as a courier for Bay Title and Abstract. Riley served his country as a pilot during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and was a faithful member of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Carole, Appleton; four daughters: Sara (Richard) Baer, Eau Claire; Nancy ( Robert Vilker) Solie-Vilker, Bayside; Amy (Daniel) Stegeman, Minneapolis and Angela, Madison; eight grandchildren: Gustav, Karl and Simon Baer; Riley, Vincent and Lucy Solie-Vilker; Tony and Solie Ann Stegeman; a sister Roma (Willard) Storch, Appleton; a brother Allen (Mary) Solie, Palo Alto, CA. The mass of the Resurrection will be held Sat June 26, 1993 at 11 am at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. "Riley was a good man who loved his family and friends. He enjoyed puttering around the house, playing with his grandchildren, golf, and being a pal. He was there for all of us whenever he was needed."

  • Death: Glenn John Wilpolt died on December 12, 2015, at age 86, in Oakland, Alameda Co, California.
  • Note: Glenn Wilpolt, aged 86 of Oakland passed away on December 12, 2015, in Oakland, Ca. after a brief illness, just four days short of his 87th birthday. Glenn was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin on December 16, 1928, son of the late Richard and Margaret (Feller) Wilpolt. He graduated Kaukauna High School in 1946, and was Rally Master at the KHS 1966 Reunion. Between Oct. 3, 1946 and Jan 28, 1948 he served in the US Army during the post WWII occupation force in Japan first in the 24th Infantry, but was transferred to MacArthur's 8th Army Hdqtrs in Tokyo and found himself assigned as the News Editor for WVTR Armed Forces Radio in Tokyo. Returning to Wisconsin he attended University of Wisconsin at Madison and along with debate class, softball, boxing and working on the Yearbook, he was in various positions on the daily newspaper, The Daily Cardinal, including Advertising Manager in 1950 and the Board of Directors in 1952. He was proud to be a Badger and he followed their sports teams, as well as his beloved Green Bay Packers, right to the end.
    On June 30, 1956 he married Teresa Schuster in Los Angeles, CA. and honeymooned in San Francisco. The family lived in Wisconsin and Illinois until 1968 when the call came to move to California. They have been faithful members of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Oakland since the first month they arrived in California. He was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance for many years retiring in 1991. Glenn was an avid golfer and was a member of Sequoyah Country Club until just last year and spoke often of his 2 holes in one.
    In June 2006 Glenn and Terry hosted a large family reunion at Long Lake in Bloomer, WI for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Terry had been diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1993 and was moved into Mercy Assisted Living in 2007. For the last 8 years, Glenn has faithfully visited Terry 6 days a week arriving before lunch and leaving just before dinnertime. They loved being together whether on a cruise or just at home.
    He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Teresa, five children: Jay Wilpolt of San Diego, CA, Mark Wilpolt of Chico, CA, Carrie Wilpolt (Kent Springer) of Pepperell, MA., Matt Wilpolt of Oakland, CA and Andy (Angelica) Wilpolt of Concord, CA. One granddaughter, Lily Wilpolt of Chico, CA; Two sisters Carole Solie of Appleton, WI; Marge Carey of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law Phyliss Schuster of Hays, KS.;.a brother in law Richard Schuster of Stockton, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Lois, brothers and sisters in-law Riley Solie, Frank Carey; William Schuster, Fred Schuster, Gayle Schuster and Louis (Ruth) Schuster.
    Funeral services will be at 10:AM on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 30 Mandalay Rd. Oakland, CA. 94618 with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Oakland. Together Glenn and Terry will rest with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, much like the one from their family home kitchen window.
    The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wed. morning at 9AM until the time of service.

    Teresa Claire Wilpolt, aged 87 of Oakland passed away peacefully on January 11 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She rejoins Glenn, her husband of 59 years, who also recently passed. Teresa was born in Ellis, KS, daughter of the late Frank W. Schuster and Rosalia (Aschenbrenner) Schuster. She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita in 1949 and was a nurse in Wichita before moving to Los Angeles in 1954.
    In 1956 she married Glenn Wilpolt in Los Angeles. They lived in Wisconsin and Illinois before moving the family to Oakland in 1968, where they have been faithful members of St. Theresa Catholic Church. In 1971 Terry began work at the Alameda Contra Costa Blood Bank, where she worked for 20 years until her retirement in 1991. Among many hobbies she enjoyed sewing, knitting, and playing golf. Terry was also a voracious reader who loved her book club.
    She is survived by her children: Jay Wilpolt of San Diego, Mark Wilpolt of Chico, Carrie Wilpolt (Kent Springer) of Pepperell, MA, Matthew Wilpolt of Oakland and Andrew (Angelica) Wilpolt of Pleasant Hill; one granddaughter Lily Wilpolt of Chico; one brother Richard Schuster of Stockton NJ; Three sisters in law, Phyllis Schuster of Hays, KS, Carole Solie of Appleton, WI and Marge Carey of Cincinnatti, OH, and numerous nephews and nieces. Terry was also recently reunited with Rebecca Hageman, her first born daughter who was given up for adoption.
    She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, brothers Louis Schuster, William Schuster and Fred Schuster, brothers in law Riley Solie and Frank Carey, and sisters in law Gayle Schuster and Ruth Schuster.
    Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday January 21 at St. Theresa Church in Oakland, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, where she will join Glenn in eternal rest. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 until 10.
