    Baeten, Donald L. Donald L. Baeten, 82, West De Pere, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2007, at Rennes Nursing Home, De Pere after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wrightstown, on July 27, 1925, to the late Martin and Mary (Blaser) Baeten. Don married the former Betty Jane Fenlon on July 19, 1950, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maple Grove, Manitowoc County. They were married for 57 years. Don lived in the Wrightstown area and the village for 48 years and West De Pere for 34 years. He worked in Wrightstown, for his Dad in cheese factories and was a very good dairy farmer. The dairy farm was a very big part of his life. Later, he was a guard at the Wisconsin State Prison in Allouez for about ten years. Don liked motorcycle riding and was an avid horse back rider. He had a horse from age 15 on. He had many horses through the years and thoroughly enjoyed riding and taking excellent care of them. It was a great hobby for him and he had many friends with the same hobby. Mr. Baeten enjoyed traveling on guided bus tours in the USA. Don was a former member of St. Paul's Church in Wrightstown where he lived and now is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in West De Pere. He is survived by his wife, Betty; and his twin sister, Dorothy Vosters from Appleton; nieces and nephews, Connie and Tom Bauer, Katie and Craig Vosters, Little Chute; Paula and Russell Gilson, Appleton; Judy Berger, Florida; Debbie and Rich Mraz, Fence, Wis.; his brother-in-law, Paul and Joyce Lamers, Little Chute. On the Fenlon side, Beatrice and Fred Eberhardt, Manitowoc; Florence Donovan, De Pere; and friend, Jim Kiley, Green Bay; nieces and nephews, Ed Eberhardt, Madison; Amy and Bill Dixon, Monona; Susan Moore, De Pere; and Tim Donovan, New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Mary Blaser Baeten; brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Marion Baeten; sisters, Irene Lamers, Florence Baeten, and Margaret Baeten; nephews and nieces, Teddy Lamers, Steven Eberhardt and Vicky Lamers; brothers-in-law, Don Vosters and Frank Donovan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Marcella Bradley Fenlon; also many cousins and friends. Don will be sadly missed by family and friends. Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday Dec. 23, 2007. Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Family, Lourdes Avenue at Suburban Drive, West De Pere, until time of service.   • Note: Betty J. Baeten, age 88, of West De Pere, passed away on September 18, 2015 at Angel’s Touch in De Pere. She was born on October 16, 1926 to the late Ralph and Marcella (Bradley) Fenlon in the town of Franklin, Manitowoc County. She married Donald L. Baeten on July 19, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Maple Grove, Manitowoc County. They were married for 57 years. Don died on December 21, 2007.
    She graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School at Maple Grove, East De Pere High School, Manitowoc Teachers College and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Thirty nine years of teaching were spent at Hickory Grove in Maribel, Schink in De Pere, Wrightstown, Webster, and Langlade schools in Allouez. She enjoyed her years of teaching and made many friends. During her retirement, Betty enjoyed the tours she took of the United States with Don and the British Isles with her sister, Beatrice. Betty was a former member of St. Patrick’s Parish at Maple Grove, St. Paul’s Parish in Wrightstown, and now Our Lady of Lourdes in De Pere. She was also a member of the Green Bay Retired Teachers, Wisconsin Retired Education Association, and the De Pere Women’s Club
    She is survived by her sister, Florence Donovan, De Pere; friend, Jim Kiley, Green Bay; nieces and nephews: Ed Eberhardt, Madison; Tim Donovan, New York City; Amy and Bill Dixon, Monona; and Susan Moore, De Pere; on the Baeten side: Connie and Tom Bauer, Craig and Katie Vosters, Little Chute; Paula and Russell Gibson, Appleton; Judy Berger, Florida; Debby and Rick Mraz, Fence, Wisconsin; Paul and Joyce Lamers, Little Chute; many cousins and friends.
    Betty was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Ralph and Marcella Bradley Fenlon; her sister, Beatrice Eberhardt; on the Baeten side: Martin and Mary (Blaser) Baeten, Willard and Marion Baeten, Irene Lamers, Florence Baeten, Margaret Baeten, Don’s twin sister Dorothy Vosters; nephews and niece: Teddy Lamers, Steven Eberhardt and Vicky Lamers; brothers-in-law: Frank Donovan, Don Vosters, and Fred Eberhardt.
    Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Avenue and Suburban Drive, De Pere, on Wednesday, September 23, from 9:00am until 10:15am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Wednesday with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem officiating. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, De Pere. Ferdinand Harp

  • Note: FERDINAND HARP, who has been identified with the agricultural interests of Buchanan township for a number of years, is now the owner of 115 acres of land in sections 26 and 27, and for the past nine years has served as road commissioner of district No. 2. He was born on the property which he is now operating, May 10, 1869, and is a son of William and Caroline (Grumall) Harp, natives of Germany. Mr. Harp's parents came to the United States in 1863, settling on forty acres of wild land which now forms a part of Ferdinand Harp's farm, where William Harp cut down trees, hewed logs and built a log house. He cleared and developed his land and resided on this property until his death, in January, 1911, when he had reached the age of eighty-two years. His wife died February 13, 1900, and both are buried in the Riverside Cemetery at Appleton. Ferdinand Harp was the fourth in order of birth of his parents' five children, and he received his education in the district schools. He always lived on the home farm and worked for his father until the latter's death, when he inherited a part of the homestead and bought the interests of the other heirs, adding seventy acres by purchase and making a total of 115 acres. He was married in 1897 to Miss Mittie Bement, daughter of Walter and Sarah (Weber) Bement, the former a native of Wisconsin and the latter of New York, and of English and Dutch descent, respectively. They were married in Wisconsin and settled in Appleton, where Mr. Bement, with Frank Clark, was the first to make sulphite pulp in the Fox River Valley. Mrs. Harp's paternal grandfather was the first city treasurer of Appleton. Her parents are both living in that city, her father being fifty-eight years old and her mother fifty-six, and they had a family of nine children, Mrs. Harp being the second in order of birth and born August 25, 1874. Mr. and Mrs. Harp have had two children: Gene and Vera. He has 100 acres under cultivation, all fenced with barbed and woven wire, and he does general farming and stock raising, marketing dairy products, hogs and cattle and some hay and grain. He milks eleven cows, keeping Short Horns and Durhams, and also breeds Yorkshire hogs and Belgian horses. His frame barn, 34x54 feet, was built in 1879, and another 30x104 feet, in 1883, the latter being equipped with cow stalls. His frame two-story residence consists of twelve rooms and was built in 1885, and he secures his water for all purposes from drilled wells. In politics Mr. Harp is a Republican and for nine years he has served as road commissioner of district No. 2. With his wife, he attends the Congregational Church.
