  • Death: Eugene Appleton died on November 21, 2014, at age 90.
  • Note: Eugene Appleton, 90, of Kimberly, went peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior on Friday, November 21, 2014. Eugene was born on June 16, 1924, to the late Sybella and John Appleton. On February 7, 1948, he married June Krueger at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Kimberly and they enjoyed 64 years together. Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved any type of gathering as long as it brought his large family together. Eugene enjoyed vacationing in Lakewood, spending time at deer camp and the yearly wood gathering trip with his sons. He also loved fishing in Canada with the crew, and playing cribbage, sheepshead and smear. He rarely missed a Friday night fish fry after enjoying a manhatten.

    Eugene was employed for 35 years as a field manager, and later as plant manager for Stokely-Van Camp Canning Company in Appleton.

    Eugene was a father to 10 children and grandfather to 29 grandchildren, Jennifer (George) Pasholk, and their children, Erin and John; Linda (deceased) (John) Knueppel, and their children, Chris, Matt and Katy; John (Beth) Appleton and their children, David, Andrew and Elizabeth; Mary (Dennis) Drexler, and their children, Amanda, Dayna and Thomas; Jim (Ann) Appleton and his children, Jake and Amber, Peter (Anne) Appleton and their children, Rachael, Samuel, Paul and Clare; Amy (Vernon) Frahm, and her children, Nate and Brian and step children Steven and Jeramie; Laurie (Tim) Handrich, and their children Kimberly, Alyssa and Dan; Carrie (Mark) Schmit, and their children, Stephanie, Allison, Tyler and Jessica; Andrea (Karl) Freimuth, and their children, Evan, Connor and Griffin. He also had 22 great-grandchildren.

    The funeral liturgy for Eugene will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly with Father Robert Kollath officiating. A visitation will take place on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.

    The Appleton family particularly wishes to thank Grand Horizons - Kimberly and Theda Care at Home Hospice for their care of Eugene over the last couple of years.

    Because of Eugene's deep love for June and her struggle with Alzheimer's the family will be setting up a memorial fund to benefit Alzheimer's research.

On February 7, 1948, she married Eugene Appleton at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly and they enjoyed 64 years together. June was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and care for her large family. June enjoyed swimming, sewing, golfing, traveling, playing cards, participating in Toastmistress and church.

She also had 15 great-grandchildren.

    The funeral liturgy for June will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly. with Father David Beaudry officiating. A visitation will take place on Thursday at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of mass.

    The Appleton family particularly wishes to thank Grand Horizons - Kimberly for their wonderful care of June over the last several years, especially the care and comfort that Zopa, Jenny, Alecia and Katelyn provided. We would also like to thank Theda Care at Home Hospice for their loving care of June at the end of her life. We greatly appreciate the kindness of the CNA's as they took care of June's daily care and the nurses who helped us through the last days and hours of her life.

    A memorial fund is being set up to benefit Alzheimer's research.

    Mrs. Charles C. VanderLinden (Irene Wettengel) 1120 S. Jackson St.

    Age 66, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Friday after a 4 month illness. She was born October 7, 1899 in Appleton and had been a resident of
    Appleton her entire life. She was a past president of E.M.B.A.

    Mrs. VanderLinden is survivied by one daughter, Mrs. John (Marge) Deltgen, Jr., two sons, Robert C. and Thomas A. all of Appleton; three brothers, Oscar E. Wettengel, Kenosha; Herbert G. Wettengel, Appleton; Carl Wettengel, Mayville, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
