    Mrs. Baker was born Dec. 22, 1914, in Wilkesboro and was raised on her family's farm in Roy. Her maiden name was VanDomelen. She graduated from Banks High School and moved in 1939 to North Plains, to Seattle in 1963 and to Aloha She had been a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy, St. Edwards Catholic Church in North Plains and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton. She was a homemaker. In 1937, she married Raleigh E.

    Survivors include her husband; daughters, Carole Pool of Portland and Judy Harold of Springfield; son, Gary of Aloha; sister, Martha Butterworth of Manning; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

    Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Roy. The family suggests remembrances to Holy Trinity Building Fund. Arrangements are by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home.

Julius Cornelius VanDomelen

    Mr. Van Domelen was born May 17, 1916, near Mountaindale. He attended Harrison School and worked on the family farm. In 1939 he married Ruby Harder, and they lived in Blooming and Forest Grove. He worked for Diamond Lumber Co. in Tillamook and Clark and Wilson in the Vernonia area. He later worked for Burlingham Feed Mill in Forest Grove until retirement. He was a Catholic.

    Surviving are his wife; and sisters, Leona S. Daquilante of Beaverton, Betty Baker of Aloha and Martha Butterworth of Banks.

Loretta Wilhelmina VanDomelen

    Mrs. Mead died Aug. 18 of a stroke at age 77.

    She was born March 10, 1918, in Mountaindale. Her maiden name was VanDomelen.

    In 1937, she married Thomas J. They lived in Banks. He died in 1993.

    She worked in the food processing industry for Gray & Co. in Forest Grove for 10 years.

    Surviving are daughters, Marlene Berge of Kent, Wash., and Susie Hardwick of Mountaindale; brother, Jule VanDomelen of Hillsboro; sisters, Betty Baker of Aloha, Marty Butterworth of Banks, Leona Daquilante of Aloha and Irene Anderson of Tigard; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

    Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Roy.

  • Note: MARTHA THERESA "MARTY" BUTTERWORTH was born December 6, 1920 in Mountaindale, Oregon, the daughter of the late Henry J. VanDomelen and Mary Ellen (Vandehey) VanDomelen. She was raised and received her education in Mountaindale.
    She was united in marriage to EB Charles Butterworth on February 21, 1941 in the St. Edward Catholic Church in North Plains, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their home in the communities of North Plains, Scappoose, Rockaway and Spray, until 1955 when they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1961, they returned to Oregon, settling in the North Plains community where they lived for one year, before moving to the Manning community in 1962, where they made their home for forty years. In 2000, they returned to the North Plains community, where they made their home.
    Marty was preceded in death by her husband, EB, on October 18, 2002 at North Plains, Oregon, after celebrating over sixty-one years of marriage together.
    She was a lifelong member of the St. Edward Catholic Church in North Plains, Oregon.
    Among her special interests she enjoyed gardening, flowers, camping and hunting. She also liked to go garage sale-"ing."
    Marty was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Deanna Cole on April 5, 2006 and her five brothers and eleven sisters.
    Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James R. "Jim" and Schirley Butterworth, of Hillsboro, Oregon and her son-in-law, Jerry Cole, of North Plains, Oregon.
    Also surviving are five grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Tom Walker, of Banks, Oregon; Jerry Butterworth, of North Plains, Oregon; Ron and Chantell Butterworth, of Boring, Oregon; Debbie and Brandon Epling, of Cornelius, Oregon; and Shelly and Bronson Adams, of Beaverton, Oregon; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Epling, Kaitlyn Epling and Trask Epling, all of Cornelius, Oregon; and Jera Butterworth, of Cornelius, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews, including Susie and Jamie Hardwick, of Mountaindale, Oregon, who were a big part of her life.
    The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Washington County, 900 S.E. Oak Street, #202, Hillsboro, Oregon 97123, in her memory.

Alfred William VanDomelen

  • Note: The funeral for Alfred William ''Bud'' VanDomelen of Manning, a retired employee of the Oregon timber industry, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Fuiten-Rose Mortuary Chapel in Forest Grove. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Roy.

    He died of a heart attack Saturday in a Seaside hospital. Mr. VanDomelen was 70.

    He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Mountaindale, where he was raised and schooled. He married Marjorie Ellen Davis on Aug. 6, 1957, in Forest Grove. The family had lived in Manning since 1960.

    Mr. Van Domelen worked as a logger for many years and later was employed as a loader for the Banks Lumber Co. until his retirement in the mid-1980s.

    His wife died in 1992.

    Survivors include his sons, Lee Hale of Cornelius, Albert Hale, James Hale and John Hale, all of Hillsboro, Huram Lockwood of South Haven, Mich., and Ray Lockwood of San Bernardino, Calif.; his daughter, Belva Low of Kibbie, Mich.; his sisters, Leona Daquilante of Forest Grove, Irene Andersen of Tigard, Betty Baker of Beaverton, Letty Mead and Marty Butterworth of Banks and Edna Hardin of Willamina; his brothers, Oliver of Mountaindale and Julius of Hillsboro; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the Oregon affiliate of the American Heart Association or the Washington County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

    Mr. Baker was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Timber. He graduated in 1933 from Banks High School. He was a logger and worked for Willamette Iron & Steel during World War II. He was a sheet metal worker and estimator for Atlas Sheet Metal for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He was a volunteer fire chief for North Plains and a board member of North Plains Elementary School. In 1937, he married Betty Van Domelen; she died in 1998.

    Survivors include his son, Gary; daughters, Carole Pool and Judy Harold; sister, Erma Kirkpatrick; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

    Interment in St. Francis Cemetery. Remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Pegg, Paxson & Springer.

    He died of causes related to age Wednesday in a Hillsboro hospital. Mr. Mead was 80.

    He was born April 11, 1912, in Culver, but he had lived on his family's farm in Banks since the age of 13. He attended the one-room Prickett School and was a 1932 graduate of Banks High School. He began working as a logger as a young man and was employed as a sheetmetal worker at the Portland shipyards during World War II.

    He married Loretta W. ''Letty'' VanDomelen on July 14, 1937, in Roy. Mr. Mead and his son, Dick, had owned and operated a logging business for several years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy.

    Survivors besides his wife include his daughters, Marlene Berge of Kent, Wash., and Susie Hardwick of Mountaindale; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Richard Mead, died in 1980.

    The family suggests remembrances be contributions to Washington County Hospice or to the Tuality Healthcare Foundation to benefit cancer research programs.

    Mr. Butterworth was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Hillsboro, and was raised in Gales Creek. During World War II, he served in the Army. He moved to Manning in 1961, and was a log and lumber truck driver, retiring from Shadybrook Lumber. He moved to North Plains in 2000. In 1941, he married Martha T. VanDomelen.

    Survivors include his wife; son, Jim; daughter, Deanna Cole; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Ellen Davis

    Mrs. VanDomelen died in a Hillsboro hospital Sunday of congestive heart failure. She was 79.

    Mrs. VanDomelen, whose maiden name was Davis, was born Dec. 28, 1912, in South Haven, Mich. In 1957, she married Alfred VanDomelen and they lived in Mountaindale for a year and a half before moving to Manning in 1960.

    She had been a bartender in the Lower Tavern in North Plains and had worked for Birds Eye Cannery in Hillsboro.

    Surviving are her husband; sons, Lee Hale of Cornelius, Albert, James and John Hale, all of Hillsboro, Hurum Lockwood of South Haven and Ray Lockwood of San Bernardino, Calif.; daughter, Belva Low of Kibbie, Mich.; sisters, Martha Zook of Prineville and Marion Alleman of Forest Grove; brothers, David Davis of Hillsboro, Eugene Davis of Gaston, Donald Davis of Boise, and Jay Davis of Central Valley, Calif.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
