  • Note: Viola E. Vandehey, 85, a resident of the Forest Grove community died Wednesday evening, September 28, 2011 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro.

    Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 Am on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd. in Verboort.

    Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Mass held in the Parish Hall

    Rite of Christian Burial and Vault interment will take place at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort.

    Viola was born on August 28, 1926 in Verboort, OR She was one of nine children born to William J. and Louise (VanDomelen) Vanderzanden. She was raised on the family farm in Verboort and attended school in Verboort.

    She was united in marriage to Bernard “Bud” Vandehey on June 6, 1946 in Verboort, OR. Following their marriage they made their home in Banks, OR until 1951 when they moved to the Thatcher District on Hillside Rd. Bud died on July 30, 1982 and Viola continued to live at the family home until her recent health had forced her closer into town.

    Viola was first and foremost a loving and devoted mother and wife. While tending to her growing family Viola had also worked outside the home picking the local crops. In her youth Viola had worked as a nurse’s aid at the original St Vincent Hospital in Portland.

    Among her interest she enjoyed knitting, scrabble, cards and crossword puzzles. She also attended many garage sales, enjoyed visits from her many many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune fan and enjoyed her family time especially on Sunday afternoon’s when she would have them over for a chicken dinner.

    She is preceded in death by her husband, two children; Linda Thompson and John Vandehey, and three siblings; Elmer, Bud Vanderzanden and Eva Yost. Survivors include her children and their spouses; Dan and Linda Vandehey of Cornelius, OR, Bill Vandehey and his companion; Lori Miller both of Banks, OR, Pam and Monte Daily of Charleston, SC, Jay Vandehey of Forest Grove, OR, Angie and Mike Anderson of Hillsboro, OR, Tim Vandehey of Cornelius, OR, Annie and Adam Thompson of Gales Creek, OR, six siblings; Dick Vanderzanden, Art Vanderzanden, Virginia Herinckx, Melitta Kadell, Agnes Richardson, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

    The family suggests donations in Viola’s name to Visitation school Endowment fun.

  • Birth: Delores McMullen was born on December 6, 1942 in Portland, Multnomah Co, Oregon.
  • Death: She died on November 10, 2015, at age 72.
  • Note: Deloris (Dee) Mae Vandehey passed away in the early morning on November 10, 2015.

    She was proceeded in death by her husband Ronald William Vandehey and both of her parents Paul and Millie Lanz.

    Dee was born on December 6, 1942 in Portland Oregon and was the second of six children- Dick, Paulette, Loretta, Louise, and Bonnie. She was raised in the NW and only left for Bible school in Bartersville Oklahoma during the year of 1961 and returned to Oregon for the remainder of her life.

    She is survived by her daughter Wacona Vandehey and her children Sherry, Velvet, Anthony, and Evan. Daughter Charlene Abbott and her children William and Maelene. Son Paul Vandehey and his children Kameryn and Hayden.

    Deloris enjoyed the outdoors with her husband and children by camping, fishing and hunting. Her one go to hobby/passion was crocheting and would spend hours making quilts and various items including blankets to doll clothing. She also enjoyed karaoke and had her own karaoke machine in her apartment. Dee was a volunteer at Five Rivers assisted living and enjoyed calling out the bingo games for residents. Her last days were spent at Above the Valley care facility until the Lord called her home. She will be laid to rest at Willamette National next to her husband Ron.

    A celebration of life will be held at Tillamook Christian Center (701 Marolf Loop Road, Tillamook, OR 97141) on Thursday November 19 at 1 p.m.

  • Marriage: He was married on June 7, 1952 in Oregon.
  • Death: He died on August 8, 2010, at age 77, in Bend, Deschutes Co, Oregon.
  • Note: Nolin Francis Vandehey passed away peacefully Sunday, August 8, with his wife and children gathered around him. Nolin was born in Gales Creek, Oregon, January 21, 1933, the 7th of 10 children born to Joseph and Mabel (VanderZanden) Vandehey. The family later moved to Thatcher, Oregon, where Nolin attended grade school, he then graduated from Verboort High School.

    Nolin met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Davis on June 7, 1952. The following September, they moved to Bend where the family still resides. Nolin worked at Oregon Trail Box for many years. Nolin had a love for cars and even though he worked full time and raised a family, he pursued an Auto Body degree from C.O.C.C. His second year in the program, Nolin won a full scholarship. After graduating, he worked at Bill's Body Shop until the shop was sold. Nolin and Patricia opened their own shop and worked for themselves where they had many loyal customers. After selling their shop, Nolin was asked to help out for a few weeks by his oldest son, who was the manager at the time, in the body shop of Bob Thomas Chevrolet. Nolin retired from Bob Thomas 14 years later where he won many awards and received many cards and letters from grateful customers.

    Nolin was a kind and generous person who was always willing to help anybody at anytime. Nolin was a hunter and fisherman and had many trophies mounted including his big trout he caught in the Deschutes River. He was most proud of the two antelopes that hang on his wall for all too see, always leading to the story of each hunt. Nolin was an excellent story teller and had many stories including his adventures with hunting and fishing. Of the many projects Nolin worked on, restoring an army jeep was one of his favorites which is still used in Veterans Day parades.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Bernard, and Ronald and sister Virginia.

    He will be missed very much by his family and friends.

    Viewing will be Friday, August 13, from 1:00 - 7:00 pm, with Vigil starting at 7:00 pm, at Niswonger and Reynolds funeral home.

    Memorial mass will be held Saturday, August 14, at 1:00 pm, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, followed by Military Honors at 2450 NE 27th St, Bend ,OR.

    Memorial Contributions have been suggested to Hospice House.
