  • Note: As a saloonowner he is convicted op april 17 1888 to a fine of 8 guilders. Together with his wife he had prevented the police to make inquiries for a bottle of hard liqour, because he had no licence for such a beverage. The policeofficers had noticed that it was served out of a black bottle to some customers, but when they entered, the bottle and the glasses had disappeared. The fine he gets for resistance against the police. (Arch. Arr. Court Den Bosch, inv. 213, nr. 50).
    In the year of 1890 he is working with his brother Wilem on the factory of Schoenmakers and Coenen in Uden. On the 31 of march of that year there aredisturbances when the wages have to be payed for extra hours. Feeling this the boss Coenen had ordered the police to be in the neighbourhood.They agreed that one person at the time could come in for payment but when two men were inside they could not hold back the rest of the crowd. Gerard and his brother Willem were one of the First to entter and begun the fight with the police officers and tried to take away their weapons.Others also went into that fight and most of the Furniture was damaged. At the end 10 men had to go to court in the town of 's-Hertogenbosch and heard the verdict that was 5 months in jail.(Arch. Arr. Rechtbank Den Bosch, inv. 239, nr. 1).
    In 1893 he left with his wife and four children to the United States.

    Van De Wettering, Vitus Vitus Van De Wettering, Greenleaf, age 76, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Vitus was born October 4, 1929 to the late George and Jacobina (Jacobs) Van De Wettering in Askeaton, WI. He married the former LaVerne Daul on May 2, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Together, Vitus and LaVerne raised six children and four foster children which include: Herman, Paul and Ronnie Skenandore and Don Mignon. Vitus was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Askeaton. He helped found the Greenleaf Rec. Dept. Little League and was active with the Sunday morning after Church softball league in Askeaton. Vitus was a lifelong dairy farmer and was recognized and awarded the lifetime membership award from the Brown County Holsteins Breeders Association. He worked as a building inspector and zoning administrator for the Town of Holland and was always active and interested in town issues. Vitus was named an honorary Irishman by his many peers in Askeaton. He enjoyed many activities over the years; he participated in the annual Hollandtown Schut for over 60 years, enjoyed card playing, fishing and a good laugh. Pranks helped Vitus enjoy life, one that most will never forget was the tipping over of Orville Finnegan’s outhouse and setting up those college kids in the great chicken heist caper on Halloween in 1969. As a youth he played in the Teenie Weenie Band. Most of all, Vitus was a vibrant loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved children, his family and community. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, LaVerne, six children: David (Marilyn) Van De Wettering and their two children: Sara and Mike, Diane (Dave) Callies and their three children: Nicole (Chris) Peters, Megan and her special friend, Mike Gerhman and Lindsay and her fiance, Tony Bateman, Donna (Pete) Jacobson and their son, Tyler, George Van De Wettering, Marcia Van De Wettering and Jackie (Dave) Dequaine and children: Nick and Kris and his fiance, Jessica Smet, five great-grandchildren: Veronica, Kyle, Logan, Brooklyn and Devon, two sisters: Tekla Hart and Casilda (Gene) Stumpf. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis, his parents, George and Jacobina Van De Wettering, mother and father-in-law: John and Verna Daul, two nephews: Mike Bastian and Donald Stumpf, a sister and brother-in-law: Rita and Ves Fink, brother-in-law, Kenneth Hart, foster children: Herman Skenandore, Ronald Skenandore, Donald Mignon and very good friends: John Surin and Stanley Lambie. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday October 15, 2005 at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, Askeaton with Fr. Al Geiser officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Saturday at Church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A prayer service is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday evening. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home is assisting the family. 766-2099.   • Note: Tekla Zita Hart, age 92, of De Pere, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 18, 2016. She was born July 4, 1924 in the Town of Holland to George and Jacobina (Jacobs) Van De Wettering. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Thomas Hart in February of 1943 in San Diego, CA and he preceded her in death in 1997. During her career Tekla worked as a bookkeeper and seamstress. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Altar Rosary Society in De Pere and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, fishing, golfing, making Christmas ornaments by hand, and was an avid Brewer fan.

    Survivors include her daughter Patricia Daune of De Pere; two grandchildren: Kymn and Heather; great-grandchildren: Dante, Jahyra and Darian; sisters-in-law: Betty Hart and LaVerne Van De Wettering, as well as many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her husband, Kenneth, and parents, Tekla was preceded in death by a son Keith; sister Rita (Sylvester) Fink, brother Vitus Van De Wettering and a sister Casilda (Eugene) Stumpf.

    Family and friends may visit at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan Street, De Pere, on Friday, July 22, from 9:00am until 10:45am. The Mass of Christian Burial for Tekla will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, De Pere.   • Note: Lois M. Heidemann, age 77, of Menasha, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Prairie Homes. Lois was born on March 11, 1937, in Bear Creek to the late Louis and Anna (Suidzinski) Young. She married Joseph C. Heidemann on September 2, 1957; he preceded her in death on August 7, 2008. Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed games--especially Yahtzee--card playing, ice cream and traveling with Joseph. Lois especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and grandchildren.

    Survivors include her children, Joanne (LeRoy) Meyer; Barbara (David) Christiansen; Joseph (Bonnie) Heidemann; Elizabeth (John) Dickson; Roxanne (Timm) Schwister; and Brian (Penny) Heidemann; her grandchildren, Jacob Heidemann (fiancé Erin) and Heather (Mike) Gostisha; Dustin and Rebecca Dickson; Brock and Bryce Schwister; Amber (Greg) Card and Katherine (Cody) Yocum; and Samantha Heidemann; her great grandchildren, Brayden Card and Lily Jane Card, and Paisley Coombes; her brother, Ivan (Theresa) Young; her sister, Victoria Schultz; and her brothers-in-law, Robert Schneider, David Heidemann, and her sister-in-law, Irene (Ralph) Boldt. Lois is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Geraldine M. Heidemann and Julie A. Heidemann; her brother, Leo Young; her sisters Leona (Glenn) Phillips, Ruth (Allen) Baldwin, Ruby Schneider and Dorothy (Oliver) Lundt. She was also preceded in death by her half brothers and sisters, Laura (Edwin) Scherck, Ed (Myra) Young, William (Violet) Young, Ray (Iris) Young, Allen Schultz and Irene (Earl) Monty; and her brother-in-law, Robert Heidemann and her sisters-in-law, Beatrice Heidemann and Mary Heidemann.

    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2231 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call directly at the funeral home on SATURDAY from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on MONDAY from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly.
