    Sylvester P. Verhoven, 78, De Pere, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at a local hospital, He was born Jan. 12, 1931, in Kaukauna, a son of the late Martin and Gertrude (Klister) Verhoven. On Oct. 7, 1953, he married the former Bernice Bartels at St. Boniface Church, De Pere.

    Sylvester served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Sylvester was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere, the Boilermakers Union, and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post #436 Wrightstown. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family.

    Sylvester is survived by his wife, Bernice Verhoven, De Pere; eight children, Sandra Verhoven, Little Chute; Joe (Barbara) Verhoven, Madison; Pat (Paul) Champeau, Green Bay; Mike Verhoven, De Pere; Jane (Brian) Smits, Appleton; Vicki (Tom) Brunette, Green Bay; Rose (Paul) Lewis, De Pere; and Jenny (Brad) Stallsmith, Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Aaron (Fran) Kushava, Katie Kushava, Philip Champeau, Sarah Champeau, Justine Napier, Morgan Napier, Brianna Smits, and Joshua Smits. He is further survived by his son-in-law, Rick Rechek, Manitowoc; sister, Jeanie Lindner; brother-in-law, James Bochtrup; Bernice's family, sisters-in-law, Edna Verhoven and Linda Krause; brothers-in-law, Joe (Rosemary) Bartels, Harvey (Judy) Bartels; and many nieces and nephews.

    Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Gertrude Verhoven; daughter, Mary Rechek; siblings, Anna Marie Madrid, Germaine Verhoven, Dorothy Muelemans, Betty Bochtrup, Dick Verhoven, and Donald Verhoven; father- and mother-in-law, August and Emma Bartels; sister-in-law, Rachael (Gordie) Kempf.

    Visitation for Sylvester will be Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere, from 4 to 8 p.m. Prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 220 S. Michigan, De Pere, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at church at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Joel Sember officiating.   • Note: Obit. De Pere Journal Democrat 7-1-199 Germaine Verhoven 65, formerly of Greenleaf, died Tuesday morning at her home in Green Bay. The daughter of Martin and Gertrude Klister Verhoven, she was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Kaukaun a and lived in this area all of her life. She is survived by three brothers, Benedict and Sylvester of De Pere and Donald of Greenleaf ; two sisters Mary Jane Linder of Arizona and Elizabeth Brochtrup of Brillion; nieces and nep hews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Marie Madrid and Dorothy Meulemans. Friends may call at De Wane-Cotter Funeral Home in Wrightstown from 4-9 o'clock to day (Thurs day) Friday friends may call after 9:A.M. at St. Mary Church, Greenleaf, until services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bob Kabat will officiate and burial will be in St. Paul Catholic cemetery, Wrig htstown.

  • Note: Steve S. Verdegan age 49, of Dunbar, passed away unexpectedly on Monday August 3, 2015, at his home. He was born in Green Bay on August 19, 1965; son of the late Leroy and Beatrice (Liska) Verdegan. He owned and operated his own Carpentry Business for numerous years and recently was employed at Sintex-Wausaukee Composites. Steve was an avid craftsman; building bird houses, log furniture and many other items. He enjoyed the outdoors; especially camping and fishing for Walleye. Steve was an exceptional handyman, he could fix anything.

    Steve is survived by his two sons: Steven (girlfriend Shanel) of Pembine and Brock (girlfriend Natasha) Verdegan of Menominee, MI; step-son, Doug (Kristen) Ambrose of Green Bay; one grandchild on the way; siblings: Mary, Roger (Verna), Jack Verdegan, Jill (Jim) Harrison, and Dawn Verdegan. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Donna, Mary, Joe and Gary.

    Funeral service will be 2 pm on Sunday August 9, 2015, at Roubal Funeral Home. Family and friends may call from 12 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dunbar.
