  • Note: Age 86, died Saturday, October 19, 2002 at the St. Paul Home. Fronie was born in Kaukauna on May 27, 1916, daughter of the late Ambrose and Katherine (Verkuilen) Grissman. In the mid- 1930’s she married William Van Toll. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1979. The family resided in Kaukauna for many years. While living at Golden Venture, Fronie enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen as well as at St. Paul Manor.

    Survivors include four sons: Gordon W. Van Toll of Mountain; Roger (Marilyn) Van Toll of Freedom; David Van Toll; and Leon Van Toll of Appleton; a daughter: Yvonne (Tom) Resch of Kimberly; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother: John (Alice) Grissman of Kaukauna; two sisters: Frances (Joe) Portman and Mary Van Stipout all of Kaukauna; a sister-in-law: Marge Grissman of Kaukauna; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William in 1979, brothers Ed, Art, and Herman (Dalia) Grissman; sisters Katherine (George) Hartjes and Doris (Dan)Head; and a brother-in-law: Raymond “Bunny” Van Stipout.

    The funeral liturgy for Fronie will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch, OFM Cap. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 – 7 PM and again Tuesday at the church from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service.

    Age 68, died at his home Friday afternoon after a long illness. He was born May 22, 1911 in Minnesota, spent his childhood in Little Chute and had been a Kaukauna resident for the past 45 years. He was employed at Coffey Motors in Kaukauna for 23 years and at Riverview Hospital for 8 ½ years until his retirement in 1973. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Kaukauna VFW Post No. 3319. Survivors include his wife, Veronica Grissman Van Toll; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Yvonne) Resch, Kimberly; four sons: Gordon, Roger and Leon, all of Kaukauna; and David, O'Fallon, Illinois; four brothers: Leonard, Kimberly; John, Arizona; Harry, Little Chute; and Ted, Plymouth, Michigan; a sister, Mrs. Leona De Klein, Horton, Michigan; 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter, in January of '79. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with the Rev. Gary Dantinne officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home. There will be a veteran's memorial service at 7 p.m. and a parish wake service at 8 p.m. Sunday.

    Gordon W. Van Toll, Kaukauna, age 69, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born in Kaukauna on May 7, 1938, to the late William and Veronica (Grissman) Van Toll. Gordon served in the Army from 1958-1961. Gordon was employed as a lineman at Kaukauna Electric. He enjoyed going up north, fishing, working on cars and puttering around in his garage.

    Gordon is survived by three children: Duane Van Toll, Georgia; Vanessa Cashman, Menasha; and Diana Trepanier, Black Creek; his extended family: special friend, Betty Van Den Bloomer, Kaukauna; Peggy Kelsal, Seymour; Gale (Cliff) Kruse, Wrightstown; Shari Solberg, Kaukauna; Sheila (Pete) Losse, Neenah; Brenda Brown, Freedom; and Shane (Karen) Van Den Bloomer, Kimberly; grandchildren: Chase, Paige, Ashlynn, Callie (Jeremy), Stefan, Jacqi, Emily, Bobbie, Dereck, Tanner, Tierra, Mariah, Trenton, Ashlee, Chaz, Bailee, Zander and Shayna; great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Austin; sister and brothers: Yvonne (Thomas) Resch, Roger (Marilyn) VanToll, David Van Toll and Leon (Debbie) Van Toll; and good friend, Jim (Lois) Jansen.

    In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Janene; and grandson, Ryan.

    Age 72, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. He was born on March 1, 1942 in Kaukauna, son of the late William aand Veronica (Grissman) Van Toll. Roger was an U.S. Army Veteran having served his country in Paris, France. On June 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Dvorachek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton and together they celebrated 48 years of marriage. Roger had been employed by Thilmany Paper Mill for nearly 25 years. He and Marilyn then bought the Moonlighter Bar in Kaukauna which they operated for four years. Roger then was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the Northland Mall until his retirement. An active outdoorsman, Roger liked to play baseball, golf, and going fishing.

    He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his three children: Chris (Wayne) Huss, Todd (Karin), and Craig (Fay); nine grandchildren: Jessica, Tyler, and Heather Huss, Todd, Jr., Kelsey, and Jason Van Toll, Chance, Stefen, and Dakota Van Toll; three great-grandchildren: Caleb, Zoey, and Aiden; a sister, Yvonne (Tom) Resch; a brother, David Van Toll; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Van Toll. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Carol (George) Goeser, Phil Dvorachek, Jean (Frank) Koehler, Janet (Wayne) Berry, Beverly Dvorachek, Charlene (Keith) Dachelet, and Bill (special friend Kitty). Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers: Gordon and Leon; his mother and father-in-law: Pearl and Charles Dvorachek, and a brother-in-law, Robert Dvorachek.

    Memorial services for Roger will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the time of services.   • Note: Marilyn Frances Van Toll, 71 of Appleton, died Sunday February 26, 2017 at The Bridges of Appleton. She was born December 21, 1945 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Fiedler) Dvorachek. Marilyn married Roger Van Toll on June 26, 1965. They celebrated 48 years together before his death on March 15, 2014.

    Marilyn enjoyed different craft projects, from rubber stamping to holiday card making. She also enjoyed gardening and baking when she was able, reading, and keeping in touch on Facebook. Her greatest enjoyment came from visits from her family, especially her grand children, great grandchildren, and her friends.

    Marilyn is survived by her three children: daughter Chris (Wayne) Huss, Kaukauna, and her two sons: Todd (Karin), Philadelphia, PA, and Craig (Fay), Kaukauna; 13 grandchildren: Jessica, Tyler, Heather, Todd Jr, Kelsey, Jason, Chance, Stefen, Dakota, Christopher, Kimberly, Sarah, and Heidi; seven great-grandchildren: Caleb, Zoey, Autumn, Callie, Aiden, Brayden, and Peyton; her siblings: Carol (George) Goeser, Greenville, Jean (Frank) Koehler, Shawano, Beverly Hughes, Menasha, Janet (Wayne) Berry, Grand Chute, Charlene (Keith) Dachelet, Neenah, and William (Kitty Dekeyser) Dvorachek. She is further survived by three sisters in-law: Philomene Dvorachek, Yvonne (Tom) Resch and Cheryl Van Toll; brother in-law: David Van Toll; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marilyn was further preceded in death by two brothers: Richard and Robert; her father and mother in-law: Bill and Veronica Van Toll; and two brothers in-law: Gordon and Leon Van Toll.

    Mass of Christian burial for Marilyn will be 11:30 AM on Thursday March 2, 2017 at ST. PIUS X CATHOIC CHURCH, 500 W Marquette St, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday beginning at 9:00 until 11:15 AM, will Mass to follow at 11:30 AM.

    Marilyn's family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at both The Bridges of Appleton, and ThedaCare at Home Hospice, and to her family and close friends, especially Janice Lamers, Cathy Lombardi, Pat Sorenson, and Dennis Dvorachek, for all of their care, compassion and visits.

  • Death: He died on February 5, 2013, at age 64, in Appleton, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Leon H. VanToll, "Louie," age 64, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 05, 2013, after a courageous battle with thyroid cancer. Louie was born in Kaukauna on October 20, 1948 to the late William and Veronica (Grissman) VanToll. He graduated at Kaukauna High School with the class of 1967. Louie proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On November 4, 1994, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Kasperek. The couple has enjoyed 18 years together. In his earlier years after service, Louie worked for the City of Kaukauna, then the Kaukauna Fire Department. He then worked as a maintenance man for Copps, Grace Lutheran Church, and most recently at Lake Park Tavern. Louie loved deer hunting, fishing up north - especially on the island on Lake Wabikon. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at his place up north in Silver Cliff.

    He will be sadly missed by his wife Cheryl, Appleton; his sons and daughters: Jared (Tara) Zwiers, and their son Aiden; Staci (Eric) Evans and their daughters Karissa and Hailey; Jackie Nieman and her sons Brayden and Clayton; Brittany Meyers and her daughter Maliyah; and Travis (fiancé Becky) Meyers and kids Michael and Karlee; two brothers: Dave and Roger (Marilyn) Van Toll; sister Yvonne (Tom) Resch; mother-in-law Dee Kasperek; brothers-in-law Mike (Connie) Kasperek and Jeff (Tink) Kasperek; sister-in-law Terri (Jim) VanRooy; cousin-in-law Kevin (Lisa) Kasperek; and uncle-in-law Fr. Dave Kasperek. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, brother Gordon VanToll, and father-in-law James Kasperek.

    A memorial service will take place at 3 pm on Saturday, February 9, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, followed immediately by military honors performed by VFW Post 2778. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 11 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Louie's name.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice - especially Jill, Janna, Karen, and Beth, and also to Dr. Cheng and Dr. Ray for their compassionate care shown to Louie. On February 21, 1945 she married Joseph Portman in Springvale, Maine. Frances was a member of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed crocheting, camping, fishing and trips to the casino.

  • Note: Joseph "Joe" F. Portman, 87, Kaukauna, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was born on February 26, 1927 to the late Frank and Matilda (Kern) Portman. In 1941, Joe joined the Navy and served 5 years including a tour in WWII. On February 21, 1945 he married Frances Grissman in Springvale, Maine.

    Joe enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, music and spending winters in Arizona. He worked at Appleton Paper in Combined Locks for 46 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and in 2011 went on the Honor Flight to Washington DC.
