    Ratajczak, Rose M.


    Rose Ratajczak, 93, Appleton, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Rennes Health Care Center. She was born on Aug. 14, 1916, in Kewaunee County, the daughter of the late Wenzel and Emma (Koss) Kuba, Sr. On April 19, 1947, she married Sylvester Ratajczak at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Mackville. Rose was a faithful member of St. Pius Catholic Church. The couple farmed in Kewaunee, and retired to Appleton in 1976. She loved gardening and flowers.

    Rose is survived by her son, Randall Ratajczak, Appleton; daughter-in-law, Kay Ratajczak, Kewaunee; grandchildren, Jean Ratajczak, Horicon; and John Ratajczak, Kewaunee; sister, Katherine (Richard) Holcomb, Appleton; sisters-in-law, Margaret Jochman, Appleton; and Gerda Kuba, Appleton; brothers-in-law, John Dresang, California; and Donald Verkuilen, Appleton. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester; her brothers, Charles, Antone and Wenzel Kuba; sisters, Lillian Dresang and Agnes Verkuilen; and her son, Peter Ratajczak.

    The funeral liturgy for Rose will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton. Father Thomas J. Farrell will be officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The visitation will take place on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.

  • Note: Age 89, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Franciscan Care Center. Sylvester was born on May 23, 1913 in Kewaunee, the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Muchowsky) Ratajczak. He married Rose M. Kuba on April 19, 1947 and continued farming as well as union carpentry work in Kewaunee County until he retired and moved to Appleton in 1976. Sylvester served his country during World War II as a Navy Seabee, from 1942 until the spring of 1946 in the European Theatre. He was a long time member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Sylvester was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

    Sylvester is survived by his wife, Rose; two sons, Peter (Kay) Ratajczak, Kewaunee, WI; and Randall Ratajczak, Appleton, WI; one sister, Eleanor Swintowsky, Kewaunee, WI; two grandchildren, Jean and John Ratajczak, Kewaunee, WI.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Florence Zartler; three brothers, Raymond, Leo, and Frank Ratajczak.

    The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH (500 West Marquette Street) at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Friends will be received directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service (11:30 a.m.). Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

  • Note: Richard L. Holcomb, 84 of Appleton, died Monday July 20, 2015 at Appleton Medical Center. Richard was born in Appleton, July 16, 1931, son of the late Rei and Loretta (Pauli) Holcomb. Richard married Katherine Kuba on July 9, 1955.

    Richard served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked most of his life as a carpenter. Besides building the house that he and Kathy lived in, Richard helped to build many houses in Appleton. Even after he "officially" retired, Richard was always there to lend a hand and help with any building project he could. Richard enjoyed his daily workouts at the "old man's club", when he was able. He liked to watch old movies, play sheephead, work in his flower garden; he always kept fresh flowers in the house for Kathy. When Richard did relax, he enjoyed sitting on his patio, bird watching.

    Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathy; his six children, son, Gary (Lynn), Neenah; five daughters, Gail Barten, Menasha, Terri Aman, Appleton, Lisa (Timothy) Helm, Centerville, OH; Kim (Kevin) Lysne, Fremont, and Kerry Holcomb, Appleton; 14 Grandchildren, Carly, Cory (Katie), Courtney, Matt, Emily, Rachel, Allison, Erik, Tyler, Katie, Karah, Alex, Anna, and Cole; two Great-Grandchildren, Macy and Lauren, and a third due in December. Richard is further survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog, Mindy. He was further preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph; two brothers, Stanley, and Darrell; and his sister, Edyth.

    Funeral service for Richard will be 5:30 PM on Friday July 24, 2015 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home beginning at 3:30 PM until the hour of service. Full military honors will follow.

    Wulterkens, Margaret A.
    Margaret A. Wulterkens, age 84, of Combined Locks, passed away, Wednesday, February 13, 2008. She was born July 1, 1923, to the late Roy and Elizabeth (Griesbach) Schmit, in the Town of Ellington and following her marriage moved to Combined Locks. Margaret had been employed by Kimberly-Clark Corporation for many years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and attending all family functions. When she was in her 20s, Margaret and two sisters went on a three month trip to Europe following World War II. Margaret was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks.

    She is survived by three sisters: LaVerne Biese, Como, TX; Patricia Sullivan, Greenville; Donna Mae (Melvin) Koehler, Como, TX; many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, John, a sister, Florence (Ambrose) Vandenberg, a brother, Charles (Grace) Schmit and a brother-in-law, Garrett Sullivan.

    The funeral liturgy for Margaret will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 East Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Father Jim Lucus officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, until the time of the mass. A memorial fund is being established.
