    Louise Gonnering, Freedom Resident, Services Tomorrow
    Mrs. Peter [Louise] Gonnering, age 87, of Freedom, died Monday, March 22, following a lengthy illness. She was born November 12, 1883 in Appleton, and she has lived in the Freedom area all of her life. She was a member of St. Nicholas Christian Mother's Society.

    Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John [Regina] Kearny, of Belore, Kansas; three sons, Lawrence, Norbert, and Daniel, all of Freedom; two brothers, Frank Weyenberg, Florida, and Lloyd, of Arizona; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Blenker, Shorewood, Mrs. Lillian Femal, Green Bay, Mrs. Genevive McCarty, Appleton, and Mrs. Regina Emperor, Kaukauna; 23 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 25, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom with the Rev. Alfred Hietpas officiating. Friends may call after 2 pm today, and a prayer service will be held this evening at 8 pm. Funeral service tomorrow will be held at 10 am. Greenwood Funeral home is in
    charge of the arrangements.

    Age 73, died at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 9, 2000, following a brief illness. He was born June 7, 1927, in Freedom, the son of the late Peter and Louise [Weyenberg] Gonnering. On October 15, 1949 the former Betty Lou Pratt. Daniel worked for the Town of Freedom for over 20 years.

    He is survived by nine children, Sue and Tom Phillips, Green Bay; Chris and Dick Dombrowski, Freedom; Linda and Richard Brennecke, Appleton; Cheri and Ken Prahl, New London; Jeanie and Dave Schroeder, Wisconsin Rapids; Bonnie and Bill Heindl, Kaukauna; Molly and Paul Van De Loo, Kaukauna; Teresa and Marty Dawson, Friendship; Julie and Scott Backus, Kaukauna; 19 grandchildren; Jennifer [John] Carli, Milwaukee; Sarah Phillips, Milwaukee; Vicky [Jeff] Calaway, Appleton; Dan Dombrowske, Freedom; Michael, Fina, Lisa and Matthew Prahl, all of New London; Nicole Schroeder, Madison; Rachel Schroeder, Wisconsin Rapids; Steve, Miranda and Melanie Heindl, Kaukauna; Bobbi Jo and Brian Van De Loo, Kaukauna; Mikayla and Cole Dawson, Friendship; Brandi and Kristofer Backus, Kaukauna; three step grandchildren; Becky [Bill] McEmery, Connecticut; Rick Brennecke, Grand Chute; Connie [Gene] Stevers, Brillion; four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; sisters in-law, Florence Gonnering, Freedom; and several nieces and nephews.

    He is preceded in death by his wife Betty, in 1999, his parents; two brothers, Norbert and Lawrence Gonnering; and a sister, Regina Kearney.

    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 13, at Fargo Funeral Home, Kaukauna. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 a.m. on Monday until the time of service.

    Lawrence J. Gonnering

    W1734 Center Valley Rd. Kaukauna, 83, died Tuesday, February 25, 1992 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born February 19, 1909 in Freedom, the son of the late Pete and Louise [Weyenberg] Gonnering. He was born, raised, and farmed in the Town of Freedom. Lawrence was united in marriage to Alice Van Thiel on June 29, 1933 until her death on February 7, 1977. He was the custodian for St. Nicholas Church and School for many years and sexton for St. Nicholas Cemetery for 51 years until his death. He attended the Mount Calvary Seminary from 1927 to 1929. He enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and Canada. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and Royal Order of Moose Lodge 367, Appleton.

    He survived by five son and four daughters in-law, Sylvester Gonnering, Menesha and friend Judy Marchant, Appleton; Larry and Therese Gonnering, Appleton; Jerome and Jan Gonnering, Ed and Judy Gonnering, Fran and Betty Gonnering, all of Freedom; two daughters and sons in-law, Mary and Roland Hermes, New London; Betty and Dave Rausch, Freedom; 31 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters in-law, Norbert and Florence Gonnering, Daniel and Betty Gonnering, Freedom; a sister, Regina Kearney, Belpre, Kansas; uncles and aunts, Morris and Regina Emperor, Kaukauna; Lloyd and Louise Weyenberg, Hawaii; and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Peter November 1956; a brother, Vincent; a brother in-law, John Kearney.

    Funeral services 12 noon Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic with Father Dennis Ryan officiating, burial in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home, Kaukauna from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Friday until the cortege leaves for the church. Moose Lodge 367, 7 p.m. and prayer service 8 p.m. Thursday.

  • Note: Ethel Promer, age 91, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Kimberly Assisted Living. Ethel was born December 21, 1924 in Wrightstown, daughter of the late Edward and Rosella (Baeten) Gussert. She attended Holy Cross School and lived in Kaukauna her entire life. In her early years, Ethel enjoyed playing softball in Kaukauna. She was pitching at one of those games when she met her future husband, Bob. On May 8, 1941, she married the love of her life, Robert A. Promer, Sr. Ethel enjoyed bowling, travel, crafts, and volunteering at local social events. Many will remember that Ethel was a generous woman who, over the years, cared for many relatives and friends, paid many visits to friends in nursing homes, and sent countless greeting cards to those she loved. She found the good in everyone and every day was a special day to her. Ethel never took life for granted.

    She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, was a lifetime member of the Thousand Islands Environmental Center, and was a lifelong and faithful member of Holy Cross Parish.

    Ethel and Bob owned Promer Drywall for over forty years - it was here that Ethel earned her nickname of "Chief". The couple then built Promer Village Apartments in Kaukauna, and managed them for over thirty years. Together they raised three sons and two daughters: Donald (Rachel) Promer of Appleton; Dick (Jean) Promer of Townsend, Bob Promer of Kaukauna, Mary (Dan) Biesterveld of Combined Locks, and Marlene (Gene Kostrzak) Tennessen of Readfield. Ethel was very proud of her grandchildren: Lisa (Glen) Kolarik, Chad (Kelly) Promer, Jim (Liz) Promer, Lynn (Mike) Ramel, Rick Promer, Jeff (Tricia) Promer, Cory Promer, Stacy (Steve) Hlinak, Shawn (Amy) Promer, Brian (Sheila) Van Asten, Ray (Vicki) Van Asten, Diane Huebner, Dana Nicholson, Duane Biesterveld, Scott (Kim) Tennessen and Jodi (Brian) Carr; twenty four great-grandchildren: Gavin, Nathan, Jake, Luke, Gabe, Madelyn, Lincoln, Abigail, Taylor, Jennifer, Tyler, Hunter, Cody, Brock, Macy, Mia, Natalie, Katelyn, Elizabeth, Lexus, , Alexander, Luciana, Alex, Ty, Tia and Trey. She will be sadly missed by them all. Ethel is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, three infant granddaughters: Ann, Mary and Lora Lynn Promer, two sisters: Roseann (Jim) Gertz and Florence (Jim) Jansen, and Bob's brothers and sisters-in-law: Herman Promer, Norbert (Alice) Promer, Art (Millie) Promer, Vi Promer , Ray Promer, and Bob's parents, Herman and Mary (DeBruin) Promer.

    Due to the construction at her home church, the Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. MARY SITE, 119 W. Seventh St. Kaukauna, with Father Jerry Pastors officiating. A time of visitation will be held at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com. A memorial fund has been established in Ethel's name.

    Ethel's family would like to thank all the staff at the Kimberly Assisted Living for their kind and compassionate care. They would also like to thank her Holy Cross family for their spiritual guidance and friendships.

    We will never say goodbye, because you will always be present in our hearts. We will miss you, but we have God's promise that someday we will be together again.
