  • Note: Elizabeth J. "Betty" Sturm, Little Chute, age 82, died Tuesday April 12, 2011, at her home with her family by her side after a battle with cancer. She was born in Little Chute on February 4, 1929, to the late Henry and Lena (Verstegen) DeBruin. On August 19, 1952, Betty married Edward Sturm at St. John Nepomucene Parish. In addition to providing a loving home for her family, Betty also worked outside of the home. She spent 29 years at Zwicker Knitting Mill and also was employed at Tony Wonders and the Starlite Club. Betty enjoyed baking, knitting, fishing and playing cards with her sisters and friends. A proud and loving grandmother, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Betty is survived and dearly missed by her husband of 58 years, Edward; four sons: Jim, Wisconsin Rapids; Gary (Kim), Little Chute; Steve (Kim), Freedom; and Todd (Tina), Freedom; six grandchildren: Stacy (fiance Brian VanBoxtel), Kevin (fiance Ashley Seegers), Tyler (fiance Amy Bouchard), Brandon, Jeremy and Tiffany; two great-grandchildren: Dakota and Jude; sisters: Rita Lalley, Verna (Jerry) Sigl and Ione Geurts; brother Ronnie (Carol) DeBruin; and sister-in-law: Doris DeBruin. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her grandsons: Jeremy, Joshua, Jason and Cory; sister: Rosalia (Henry) St. Louis; brother Mervin DeBruin; and brothers-in-law: Bob Lalley and Tom Geurts.

    Visitation will be held at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) Monday April 18, 2011, beginning at 2 p.m. until time of Mass at 5 p.m. The Rev.   • Note: Gerald H. "Jerry" Sigl, age 88, of Little Chute, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 13, 1927, son of the late Herbert and Helen (Raymakers) Sigl. On May 6, 1950, Jerry married Verna DeBruin at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute.

    Jerry worked at Consolidated Papers in Appleton for 36 years before his retirement. He enjoyed going up north to his cottage, hunting, fishing, playing cards and going to the casino. He always loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Verna; his sons: Bob (Diane), Dick (Mary) and Ron Sigl; 4 grandchilren; 3 great grandchildren; a sister, Janice (Gary) Ziesemer; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ione Geerts and Ron (Carol) DeBruin; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Lucille (Gordon) Vandenberg, Betty Sigl and James Sigl; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rosalia (Henry) St. Louis, Rita (Bob) Lally, Tom Geerts, Betty (Ed) Sturm and Mervin (Doris) DeBruin.

    Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Ed married Betty De Bruin on August 19, 1952 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. He served in the National Guard. Ed worked as a welder and fabricator at Fox Valley Boiler Works and Lee's Welding. Following retirement, he enjoyed working at Walmart, where he assembled bicycles. He built his cottage on Lake Poygan and loved to spend his time there fishing.

    Edward is survived by his sons: Jim (Janis Waite) of Wisconsin Rapids; Gary (Kim) of Little Chute; Steve (Kim) of Freedom; and Todd (Tina) of Freedom; grandchildren: Stacy, Tyler, Kevin (Ashley), Brandon, Jeremy and Tiffany Sturm; great grandchildren: Dakota, Jude, Tytan and Taz; sisters and brothers-in-law: Verna (Jerry) Sigl, Ione Geurts and Ronnie (Carol) De Bruin.

    In addition to his parents, and wife Betty, Ed was preceded in death by his grandsons: Jeremy, Joshua, Jason and Cory; sisters and brothers-in-law: Rosalia (Henry) St. Louis, Mervin (Doris) De Bruin, Rita (Bob) Lalley and Tom Geurts.

    Age 64, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 1, 1991, at home. She was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Combined Locks, the daughter of the late John and Amelia (Peters) Degoey. She had lived in this area all her life until 1988, when upon retirement, she moved to Crivitz. She had been secretary at Vandenberg Electric Co, for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Lakes at Crooked Lake and had been a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks for many years. Survivers include her husband of 45 years, Leo, eight sons: Jerry and Linda, Lyle and Karen; all of Combined Locks; Ron and Jean, Freedom; Vern, Kaukauna; Roy and Pauline, Appleton, Carl, Denny and Amy, all of Phoenix; Leo and Sharon, Lake Zurich, Ill; three daughters: Janice and Tim Dey, Phoenix; Carol and William Haas and Shirley and Al Behling, all of Appleton; 12 grandsons and 13 granddaughters; a brother bill and LeAnn DeGoey, Combined Locks; five sisters: Betty Keller, Manitowoc; Sylvia and Bob Bird, Elverta, Calif., Angie and Eugene “Stoney” Vandersteen, Kaukauna; Eleanor and Donald Vandenberg, Freedom; Carol Burmeister, Milwaukee; two stepbrothers: John Wirth, Kimberly; Alvin (Donna) Pennings, Combined Locks; a stepsister: JoAnn Jansen, Kaukauna, and step sister-in-law, Mary Schommer, also Kaukauna. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks, with theRev. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Jansen-Fargo Funeral Home, 204 E Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until the cortege leaves for the church. There will be a parish prayers service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
