FIRE VICTIM IN FAIR CONDITION AT KAU HOSPITAL
Kaukauna Community Hospital officials Thursday morning reported that Mrs. W. M. Hermas, 629 George st., was still in fair condition as a result of burns sustained at about noon on Tuesday when her clothing was accidentally ignited as she talked on a telephone. Fire chief William Haupt explained that Mrs. Hermans was apparently standing near a stove, while talking on the telephone when her apron strings were ignited on a burner and the fire rapidly spread to her other clothing. Mrs. Hermans, who was alone in the house at the time of the mishap, wetted rugs and wrapped them around herself to extinguish the fire. The woman to whom Mrs. Hermans was talking called neighbors who in turn summoned the City ambulance. At the hospital she is being treated for third and first degree burns over her body.

  • Note: My great great grandfather was very proud of his mustache, which was a deep red color. He would style each side into fancy swirls. He was a very happy man and laughed a lot. He would laugh so hard that tears ran down his cheeks and straightened the curls on his mustache. He would wipe his face with a huge blue handkerchief. The curls would hang on each side of his face and he looked like a walrus.
My grandma (Evelyn Bongers) remembers him and how funny he was.
