    ----Hopfensperger, Frank (17 July 1888 – 3 Sept. 1954)


    Funeral services for Frank Hopfensperger, 66, who died Friday afternoon at his home, were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard’s Catholic church, with the Rev. Raymond Schulz officiating. Burial took place in the Dorchester cemetery. The pallbearers were Walter Boss, Gay Graffunder, Ed Krousie, John and Joe Pinter and George Schultz, all neighbors of the deceased.


    Mr. Hopfensperger was born July 17, 1888, in the town of Harrison, Calumet county. He received his education in the Holy Angels Catholic school at Darby. On Feb. 18, 1909, he was married to Lena Jackmann, at Appleton, and in 1915 they came to their present farm. He had been in poor health for some time but death came unexpectedly about 2:00 o’clock when he was doing some chores in the barn.

    He is survived by his widow, five sons, Lawrence, Abbotsford; Harvey, Wausau; Harold, Kaukauna, Vilas, Harvey, Ill.; and William, Menomonee Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Margaret) De Bruin, Black Creek; Mrs. Roman (Esther) Thiel, Appleton; and Mrs. Harvey (Irene) Van Dyke, Kaukauna. There are 21 grand children and two great grand children. Also surviving are seven brothers, William, Stratford; Peter, Junction City; Herman, Iola; Alex, Neenah; and Harry, Raymond, and Eugene, all of Appleton; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Ellard, Iola; Mrs. Gertrude Wallace, Green Bay; Mrs. Tresha Cevene, Fond du Lac; and Mrs. Anna Schaefer, Appleton. All of the above attended the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Lena Ellard, Iola.

    Three children and five brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

    Mrs. Lena Hopfensperger Kaukauna

    Age 72, passed away at 2 a.m. Sunday at the Rose Rest Home, Kaukauna, after a long illness. She had made her home wiht her daughter, Mrs. Bernard DeBruin, Black Creek, for the past three years. She was born in Darboy, May 16, 1891 and the couple farmed in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, until about 10 years ago.

    Mrs. Hopfensperger is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Bernard [Margaret] DeBruin, Black Creek; Mrs. Roman [Esther] Thiel, Appleton; Mrs. Harvey [Irene] Van Dyke, Kaukauna; five sons; Lawrence, Abbotsford; Harvey, Wausau; Harold, Black Creek; Vilas and William, both of Milwaukee; two sisters; Mrs. Marget Schumacher, Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Charles [Hannah] Hartzheim, Menasha; 24 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.

    The body will be removed from the Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna to Polnazek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, wher friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday until Wednesday morning when the mass will be read at St. Bernard's Church, Abbotsford. Burial will be in the Dorchester Cemetery. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, Abbotsford.

    Esther was born on June 2, 1919, on the family farm in Abbotsford, Wis., to the late Frank and Lena (Jochman) Hopfensperger. She married Roman M. Thiel on Aug. 26, 1939 and together they shared 47 years of marriage. Esther was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton.

    She is survived by a son, James (Barbara) Thiel, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Tom (Shawn) Thiel, Appleton; Greg Thiel, Nashville, Tenn.; Dan (Debbie) Procknow, Cary, Ill.; Tom (Amy) Procknow, Neenah; Mike (Laurie) Tyvol, Appleton; Jeff Tyvol (Beth), Appleton; Kristine Tyvol, Appleton; Tim Snell, Appleton; Le Anne (Snell) Mishko, Oshkosh; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her sisters-in-law, Shirley Hopfensperger, Myrna Hopfensperger, Marie Thiel and son-in-law, Del (Susan) La Marche also survives.

    Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Roman; two daughters, Nancy (Thiel) La Marche and Charlotte (Thiel) Snell; infant great-grandson Mark; and four sisters, Alvina, Leona, Margaret and Irene; and six brothers, Orville, Lawrence, Harvey, Harold, Vilas and William.

    The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton, with the Rev. Tony Ibekwe officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Esther's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

    Esther will be remembered for her kind and caring spirit.

    The family wishes to thank Colony Oaks Care Center staff and nurses for their care and concern shown to Esther and family.

    Roman M. Thiel 405 E. Wilson Appleton

    Age 68, Our blessed Lord called Roman home Saturday, March 1, 1886, after an extended illness. He was born February 6, 1918 in Sherwood, the son of the late Michael and Lottie [Emmer] Thiel. Roman was united in marriage to Esther Hopfensberger on August 26, 1939. He was employed by Service Bakery for 25 years, and was later employed by Lawrence University. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed by relatives and many dear friends.

    Survivors include his wife, Esther, a son and daughter in-law, James E. and Barbara Thiel; two daughters, Charlotte Snell, and Nancy Tyvol; nine grandchildren, tom and Greg Thiel, Leanne Stocker, and Kristin Tyvol, all of Appleton, Tim Snell, Chicago, Dan Procknow, North Carolina, Tim Procknow, and Jeff Tyvol, Tampa, Florida, and Mike Tyvol, Daly City, California; two great grandchildren, Melissa Stocker, and Jessica Tyvol; a brother and his wife, Earl and Marie Thiel, Appleton; and three sisters, Mrs. Willard [Dolores] Hogan, Alice Dryer, and Mrs. Bud [Florence] Salm.

    He was preceded by his parentsl a sister, Mrs. Alvin [Bernice] Polishinske. The complete funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 1986, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Wilbert Staudenmaier officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St. frim 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday [tonight], and on Monday from 9 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church. A prayer service will be 8 p.m. Sunday evening [tonight].

    La Marche, Nancy F. Appleton

    Age 60, died Monday, December 9, 2002 at Cherry Meadows. She was born in Appleton on February 19, 1942 to Roman and Esther (Hopfensperger) Thiel. On November 20, 1986 she married Delore La Marche. Nancy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Nancy worked for 23 years at Lawrence University.

    She is survived by her husband, Delore; children: Daniel (Debbie) Procknow, Cary, Illinois; Tom (Ami) Procknow, Neenah; Michael (Lori) Tyvol, Fremont; Jeff (special friend Beth Dix) Tyvol; and Kristen Tyvol, both of Appleton; step children: Delore (Kris) La Marche Jr., Kimberly; Dwight (Sherry) La Marche, Bear Creek; mother, Esther Thiel, Appleton; brother, Jim (Barbara) Thiel, Winneconne; aunt and good friend, Alice Dryer; grandchildren: Caitlin and Adam Procknow, Allen, Clarissa, Andrea, Delanea Procknow, Jessica, Jacob and Megan Tyvol, Alisha Tyvol; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Roman Thiel; and sister, Charlotte Thiel Snell.

    The Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 13, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with Father Robert Karuhn officiating. The visitation will be on Thursday at the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. and again on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. There will be a vigil service on Thursday at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
