  • Death: He died on June 20, 2015, at age 72, in Madison, Dane Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Leo R. Coonen, age 72, of Waupaca, WI, formerly of Little Chute, WI, passed away Saturday, June 20th, 2015 at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born in Little Chute, on May 21, 1943, a son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Gerard) Coonen.

    He married Sandra Bevers on August 17, 1963 in Little Chute. Leo was an amazing auto body repairman out of his shop in Little Chute, Cash TX and lastly, Hwy 22, south of Waupaca. He repaired and brought back to life many show cars and his brother Don's pick up truck. Many of these taking first place at many Auto Shows, city, state and even nationals. He loved to be on his Kawasaki 1300 touring bike with his wife Sandy riding alone on her own bike or in the later years, riding shotgun behind him on his bike, making wonderful memories together. He also loved to go sailing on the lakes in Waupaca with his son Jeff, and his two granddaughters, Nicole and Hannah.

    Leo will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Sandra Coonen, Waupaca, WI, and their children, Jeff (Theresa) Coonen, Pine River, WI, and their children, Nicole and Hannah Coonen; Dan (Deanna) Coonen, Menasha, WI, and his children, Kevin, Issac and Lance; Jay Coonen, Gwinn, MI, and his children, Alex, Joshua and Molly; Sisters & Brothers: Geraldine (Bob) Fischer, Phoenix, AZ; Carolyn (Bud Goodrich) Wozniak, Mt. Pleasant, WI; David "Brother Jordan" Coonen, Denver, CO; Gordan Coonen, Denver, CO; Paul (Dianne) Coonen, Stockbridge, WI; Don (Pat) Coonen, Appleton, WI; Alice (Bill) Erdman, Kaukauna, WI. He is further survived by his wife's brother, Donald Bevers, Pennsgrove, NJ, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kathy Coonen, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Josephine (Jansen) Bevers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wally Wozniak, LaVern Mathis and her husband Jacob, Betty Verstegen and her husbands Jerry and Spike, Les Bevers and his wife Betty, Catherine Bevers, and a niece, Gail Balthazor.

    A Celebration of Life for Leo will be held at his home (N685 Hwy 22, south of Waupaca) on Saturday, July 25, 2015, starting at 2 PM. This celebration will include a short prayer service, sharing of memories of a life well lived and enjoyed. Following the service, light food and refreshments will be served.

    Age 74, passed away Octoer 29, 1999, at Parkside Nursing Home, surrounded by her family, following a l ingering illness. She was born June 28, 1925, in Little Chute, daughter of the late Steven and Lorraine (VanDenHeuvel) Mangold. On April 8, 1946, she married James M Driessen at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. She was an avid golfer and also enjoyed playing cards, reading and ceramics.
    She is survived by her husband, James, of 53 years; sons, Steven Driessen, Milwaukee, and David Driessen, Little Chute; and daughters, Barbara Driessen, Neenah; Diane (Ron) Demerath, Kaukauna; and Donna (David) Moede, Kaukauna. Also grandchildren, Jacqueline and Christopher Kelly, Rose Shedlock and Jill Driessen, Jason, Adam and Stacy Demerath, Erik and Michael Moede, and also great-grandchildren, Jesse Jacobs and Seth Kelly. Also survived by her brother, Donald (Caroline) Mangold, Green Bay, and Margaret Ann (Sylvester) Vanevenhoven, Kaukauna, and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Steven and Lorraine Mangold, and step-father, Wilfred Brown. A special thank-you to the staff at Affinity Care and St. Elizabeth Hospital for their warmth and kindness in caring for our wife and mother. A visitation will be at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute on November 1, 1999, from 4 to 6 p.m. immediately followed by a 6 p.m. mass.     James Driessen, 85, Little Chute, died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was born June 11, 1923, in Little Chute, son of George and Rose (Hietpas) Driessen. Jim married Ramona "Mona" Mangold April 8, 1947, and she preceded him in death October 29, 1999. Mr. Driessen was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. He was employed at the Combined Locks Paper Mill until his retirement. Jim enjoyed carpentry, especially cabinet making along with gardening. He was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute. Mr. Driessen was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.
    Jim is survived by his children: Barbara Driessen, Neenah; Steve (Barbara) Driessen, Cape Coral, Florida; Diane (Ronald) Demerath, Kaukauna; David Driessen, Little Chute; Donna Moede, Combined Locks and special friend, Richard Gleason; nine grandchildren: Jacki Kelly; Chris (Tanya) Kelly; Rose (Steve) Shedlock; Jill Driessen; Jason (Aimee) Demerath; Adam Demerath and special friend, Amber; Stacy Demerath; Eric Moede; Michael Moede; eight great-grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Locy, Little Chute; Carol Skinkis, Milwaukee; three sisters-in-law: Theresa Driessen, Kimberly; Margaret Ann (Sylvester) Vanevenhoven, Kaukauna; Carolyn Mangold, Green Bay; a brother-in-law, Julius Pritzl, Appleton; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
    He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Isabel Pritzl; Joyce Driessen; Joan Driessen; three brothers: Eugene (Dolores) Driessen; Leo (Marlene) Driessen; Richard Driessen; three brothers-in-law, David Locy, Chet Skinkis, Donald (Margaret) Mangold.
    Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Fr. David Funk O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. Monday until 5 p.m. until the time of the mass. Full military honors will be performed following the mass by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

  • Birth: Ralph L VanHorn was born on August 14, 1939.
  • Marriage: He was married on July 4, 1964.
  • Death: He died on August 25, 2014, at age 75.
  • Note: Ralph L. Van Horn, age 75, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He graduated from Shiocton high school, joined the Army and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked as a service repairman for IBM and retired from the Kodak company. Ralph was a dedicated member of his church and contributed in many ways. His bright smile will be remembered by his closest friends, Jake and Debbie Kreischer, and many others.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Tina Haslehurst, four children; six brothers and two sisters: Larry(Judy) Van Horn, Don Van Horn, Clarence(Cindy) Van Horn, Diane (Ray) Gomm, Al Van Horn, Les (Lisa) Van Horn, Linda (Rich) Minnihan, Dan (Tina) Van Horn; one sister-in-law Angie Perrine and two brothers in law, Larry (Sharon) Krause, Dean (Marla) Krause.

    The family would like to thank the Affinity Medical Hospice for their care and the Appleton Community Evangelical Free Church for their assistance during his illness.

    A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Appleton Community Evangelical Free Church, 2490 W. Capitol Drive, Appleton with Pastor John Hartenberger and Pastor Bernard Fergusen officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be a luncheon served immediately after the service.

    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Ralph's name.

    Age 75, died peacefully at his home on November 3, 2003. He was born May 17, 1928 in Kaukauna son of Steven and Lorraine (Vanden Heuvel) Mangold. He attended Holy Cross Grade School and Kaukauna High School and attended UW Stevens Point. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. In February 1953 he married Peg Gorchals. She preceded him in death in 1986. They had two children: Mark and Patti. For years he served as product manager of the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Corporation (now International Paper Co., Kaukauna facility). He was a member of its Quarter Century and Management Club. While in Kaukauna he served on the St. Aloysius School Board and on the City Planning Commission.When Thilmany’s bag department was terminated, it was purchased by a Green Bay businessman, moved to Green Bay and renamed Wisconsin Converting. So, a new retiree, Don was hired as a full time consultant to help during the transition of ownership in maintaining past accounts. He was active in multiple activities, both indoors and outdoors, from planting flowers to woodworking projects for the grandson, an avid reader, an avid golfer and proud of his bowling '300' in 2001 and '701' in 2002. He moved to Green Bay in 1988 and married Carolyn Krueger. They made their home in Green Bay for 15 years.

    Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; son, Mark and his sons: Hunter and Luke; daughter, Patti (Glenn) McNamara and their son, Keegan; a sister, Margaret Ann (Sylvester) Vanevenhoven; step brother, Don (Mary Jayne) Brown; in-laws: Jim Driessen, Les and Millie Regel, Rita Gorchals, Ed and Nancy Gorchals, Virginia Krueger, many nieces, nephews and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mona (Jim) Driessen, Little Chute; step father, William Brown, step brothers: Richard and Dave Brown. Friends may call at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane on Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating.     36 Year Employee of Thilmany, Dies
    Life-Long Resident of City Strick While at Work; Succumbs Friday
    Wilfred J. Brown, 51, 902 Wilson street, died suddenly of a heart attack at about 8 o'clock Friday morning while at work at the Thilmany Pulp and Paper company. He was stricken about an hour after he had reported for work.
    Born October 6, 1897 in Kaukauna, Brown made his home here all his life. He attended Holy Cross grade school and Kaukauna high school and had been employed by Thilmany for the last 36 years.
    He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic church, the Holy Name society, the Catholic ORder of Foresters, the Knights of Columbus and the Quarter Century club of Thilmany.
    Funeral services were held at 9:30 Monday morning at the Holy Cross Catholic church, with the Rev. Andrew Quella in charge. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
    Survivors include his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Brown; two daughters, Mrs. James Driessen of Little Chute and Margaret Ann at home; six sons, Richard, Donald J., Carlton, David, Kenneth and Donald W., all of Kaukauna; two sisters, Miss Cecelia Brown of Kaukauna and Mrs. Walter Hass of Milwaukee; and one grandchild.
    Pall bearers were Paul Bauer, Leonard Conrad, Curtiss Wolf, Anton Ashauer, Harold Hoolihan and Edward Schmidt.
