The daughter of the late Theophil and Mary Veronica (Schoots) Meulemans was born June 4, 1896, in Wursula, Belgium. She was united in marriage to John Van Den Elsen on September 16, 1920. He preceded her in death in 1966. Sylvia came to the United States in 1909 and lived in Milwaukee, New York, Kimberly, Little Chute and Wrightstown, but spent most of her life in rural Kaukauna. She has been a member of St. Paul's Church in Wrightstown for many years. Sylvia was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 66 years. A most kind and beautiful lady, Sylvia loved and was loved by anyone she met. Her family was her most precious possession and she leaves on earth 162 descendants. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in- law, Ken (Marie) Van Den Elsen, Kaukauna, and Raymond "Bud" (Marlene) Van Den Elsen, Wrightstown three daughters and two sons-in-law, Erna Spice, King, Wisconsin, Gloria (Robert) Hash, Kimberly, Muriel (Robert) Frank, De Pere 42 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren 23 great-great-grandchildren one sister-in-law, Helen Meulemans, Kaukauna one brother-in-law, Edward Vander Heiden, De Pere nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded by four brothers, Chester, Frank, Raymond and David three sisters, Melvine Vander Heiden, Dina Meulemans and Josephine Ackman two granddaughters one grandson one great- granddaughter one great-grandson and two sons-in-law, Robert Kobbusen and Percy Spice.

    Friends may call at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 437 Main Street, Wrightstown, on Thursday, December 30, 1999, after 2 p.m. until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial is at 4 p.m.

    Thursday at the church with the Rev. Elroy E. Reimer officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy a memorial has been established in her name.

  • Note: Kaukauna - Kenneth J. Van Elsen, age 98, died Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was born in Milwaukee on October 1, 1919 to the late John and Sylvia (Meulemans) Van Den Elsen. Ken married Marie Killian on October 6, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2015 after 70 years of marriage. Together, they were lifelong members of Holy Cross Parish. Ken proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a life member and past commander of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. Later, he was chosen to participate in the Old Glory Honor Flight. Ken was also a life member and past commander of the Moose Lodge. He owned and operated the Red Owl stores in Little Chute and Seymour. He then worked as a carpenter until his retirement and was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 50 years. Ken and Marie were snowbirds for 30 years, travelling to sunny Florida each winter.

    Ken is survived by his children: Lynn (Dan) Siebers, Ocala, FL; Dale (Rosemary), Kaukauna; Karen (Dennis) Seidl, Sturgeon Bay; Kathy (Richard) Janssen, Combined Locks; and Dawn (Weslie) Bougie, Appleton; grandchildren: Mark (Becky) Van Elsen, Karen (Mark) Weyenberg, Brian (Cecelia) Van Elsen, Tammy (Steve) Estes, Troy (Jessica Slavin) Seidl, Amanda (George) Langenhuizen, Ashley Janssen, Adam Janssen, Amber (Tyler) Zak, Kayla (Alex) Broehm and Lexi (fiance Matt King) Bougie; great grandchildren: Lindsay, Emily, Clayton, Allison, Madeline, Grant, Andre, Eli, Olivia, Hunter, Skylar, Cora, Tucker and 2 on the way; sister: Muriel Frank; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Jean (Herb) Hermsen, Paul (Jeanne) Killian and Bill Vanderloop. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents and wife, Marie, Ken was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elaine "Penny" Van Elsen; siblings: Erna (Percy) Spice, Gloria (Bob) Hash and Raymond (Marlene) Van Den Elsen; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob Frank, Joyce Vanderloop, Rita (Frank) Wagner and Bob (Claire) Killian.

    Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Pomeroy will officiate.     Raymond Van Den Elsen, 81, Kaukauna, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Kaukauna, son of John and Sylvia (Meulemans) Van Den Elsen. Ray married Marlene Dyer on Dec. 30, 1950, and she preceded him in death Feb. 27, 2009.

    Ray was the owner and operator of Vans Construction in Wrightstown. He enjoyed woodworking and making projects for his children and grandchildren. Ray was an avid Packers and football fan, holding season tickets for several years. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church (St. Paul's), Wrightstown.

    Ray is survived by his children, Wanda (Gregory) Baeten, Kaukauna; Patti (Richard) Secoolish, Kannapolis, N.C.; Steven Van Den Elsen, Salisbury, N.C.; Joseph (Anita) Van Den Elsen, De Pere; Martin (Jodie) Van Den Elsen, Wrightstown; Phillip Van Den Elsen, Greenleaf; Dwayne (Sue) Van Den Elsen, Little Chute; Gerald (Brenda) Van Den Elsen, Greenleaf; Curt (Amy) Van Den Elsen, Wrightstown; grandchildren, Travis (April), Amanda (Brian), Bradley (Jonette), Kevin (Kelly), Christa, Anthony (Jennifer), Paula, Christopher, Kim, Scott, Nichole (Tom), Stephanie, Terry, Sara Ann, Jessica, Anthony, Chaka, Jacob, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Blake, Carly, Isabelle, Quincy, Andrew, Morgan, Kiera, Sasha (Jason), Anthony, Crystal, Aiden; great-great-grandchildren, Matthew and Caleb.     A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at St. Clare Parish, St. Paul Site, 437 Main St., Wrightstown, with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Wrightstown. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.

  • Note: Marie M. Van Elsen, 93, was called home to be with her Savior on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 with her family at her side, at the Bridges of Appleton. Marie was born on January 4, 1922 to Henry and Susan (Schmitz) Killian. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Van Elsen on October 6, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna and together they spent 70 wonderful years. She and Ken were life-long members of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna.

    Marie was a very faith filled woman, and that deep faith is what helped her to be a two time survivor of breast cancer. She was a sweet, wonderful, loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. As a fabulous cook, she loved preparing delicious meals for her family.

    She was a member of the Kaukauna Moose Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Marie and Ken spent many winters enjoying the warmth of Florida. Playing bingo was a favorite pastime of hers. When back in Wisconsin at Golden Venture, she enjoyed playing and calling bingo.

    Marie is survived by her husband, Ken, five children; Lynn (Dan) Siebers, Grand Chute, Dale (Rosemary) Van Elsen, Kaukauna, Karen (Dennis) Seidl, Sturgeon Bay, Kathy (Richard) Janssen, Combined Locks, Dawn (Weslie) Bougie, Grand Chute, grandchildren; Mark (Becky) Van Elsen, Karen (Mark) Weyenberg, Brian (Cecilia) Van Elsen, Tammy (Steve) Estes, Troy Seidl, Amanda (George) Langenhuizen, Ashley Janssen, Adam Janssen, Amber (fiancée Tyler Zak) Bougie, Kayla (Alex) Broehm, and Lexi (special friend Matt King) Bougie, great grandchildren; Lindsay, Emily, Allison, Clayton, Madeline, Grant, Andre, Eli, Olivia, Hunter and another on the way. She is further survived by her brother, Paul (Jeanne) Killian; sister, Jean (Herb) Hermsen; sister-in-law Muriel (Bob) Frank; brother-in-law, Bill Vanderloop and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Marie was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Elaine (Penny), two sisters; Joyce Vanderloop and Rita (Frank) Wagner; and brother Bob (Claire) Killian.

    The celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyner St., Kaukauna. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Resurrection at the church.

    Marlene Van den Elsen, 78, Kaukauna, died unexpectedly Friday, February 27, 2009, in Kannoplis, North Carolina. She was born February 13, 1932, in Madison, daughter of Albert and Bertha (Purcell) Dyer. Marlene was employed as a housekeeper at Appleton Medical Center. Marlene loved spending time with her family and was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, embroidery, doing puzzles and gardening. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown.

    Hash, Gloria M. Gloria M. Hash, Appleton, 79, went home to the Lord at Appleton Medical Center on Friday, April 21, 2006. She was born in Kimberly on September 1, 1926, daughter of the late John and Sylvia (Meulemans) Van Den Elsen. Gloria was married to Robert Kobussen for 25 years and then to Robert Hash for 29 years. Both preceded her in death. Gloria was proud to be a homemaker and took great pride in raising her eight children. She was a wonderful cook and loved to sew.

    Gloria is survived by her children: Peg (John) Ponfil of Darboy; Gene (Laura) Kobussen of Little Chute; Mary Jo (Lee) Hammen of Kimberly; Debbie Herbst of West Bend (special friend, Bob Duchow); Sue (Rob) Ristau of Kimberly; Pat (Bob) Hoffman of Park Falls; Rick (Cindy) Kobussen of Kaukauna; and Dan (Cheri) Kobussen of Kimberly; grandchildren: Johnna (Todd) Brown, Jodi (Paul) Bartel, Missy Ponfil, Molly Ponfil, Michelle Omar, Mike (Stephanie) Kobussen, Lee (Claire) Hammen, Lori (Jimmy) Henderson, Brad Hammen, Scott Herbst, Ryan Herbst, Eric (Kelly) Ristau, Jenelle Ristau, Adam (Dani) Hoffman, Keshia Hoffman, Kristi Kobussen, Katie Kobussen; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Ken (Marie) Van Elsen, Raymond "Bud" (Marlene) Van Den Elsen, and Muriel (Bob) Frank.

    The funeral Mass will be at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at St. John Catholic Church, 323 Pine St, Little Chute, with Fr. Patrick Beno officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.

He was born April 28, 1920, in Stiles Junction, Wisconsin, son of the late Ira and Sarah (Dessel) Spice. On May 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to the former Erna J. VanDenElsen at Wrightstown. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in European theater of operations and was a member of the Shawano American Legion Post 117. Mr. Spice had formerly worked in construction and as a log truck driver. He was an avid musician who played guitar with the Happy Wanderers Band, playing Country-Western and Old Time music in the Shawano area and in Texas during the winter months. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by two children, Diane and Shane Spice a sister, Irene and brothers, Kirby, Lester and Calvin. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 4, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Schroeder- Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano with Father Robert Kollath officiating. Interment at Sacred Heath Catholic Cemetery of Shawano. Graveside miltary rites will be performed by the Shawano American Legion Post 117. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home until the time of services. A parish wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Memorials for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano, Shawano American Legion Post 117 and the Wisconsin Veterans Home of King, Wisconsin, have been established in his memory.

She was born on December 1, 1921, in Little Chute, WI, daughter of the late William and Cornelia (DeBruin) Kobussen. She married Henry Gajewski on April 25, 1942, in St. John's Church, Little Chute. They resided in Menasha, Wisconsin, from 1942 to 2006, when they moved to Stevens Point, WI, to be closer to family. While living in Menasha, she attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Rosary and Sacred Heart Societies. She was also a charter member of the Home School Association. After moving to Stevens Point, she attended Celebration Church. From 1964 to 1966, she taught Physical Education at St. John's Elementary School and from 1966 to 1968 she worked for the Northwestern Daily Journal covering societal and school news events. She was very active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, serving as a leader for many years. In her young adult life, she took multiple courses at the technical schools and was very involved with exercise classes and walking for fitness. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for family and friends. Annacile loved to read, cook, bowl and go fishing. She was a sports enthusiast and was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. She loved to visit with family and friends and would drop almost anything for the opportunity to sit and chat. Her life revolved around her love for family.
    Survivors include her husband, Henry; two daughters: Kristine Miller, Scottsdale, AZ, and Katie (Gene) Kohn, Stevens Point, WI; a foster son, Joe Kiesow, Appleton, WI; grandchildren: Lisa Miller, Boca Raton, FL, Angela Slate (William), Santa Monica, CA, Jennifer Hoppe (David), Madison, WI, Ryan Kohn (Tawnya Schilt), Stevens Point, WI, Jaclyn and Julianne (Gajewski) Kobasic, Phoenix, AZ; and a step-grandson, Brandon Roth, Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren: Samantha and Molly Hoppe. She is also survived by a sister, Lucina Wydeven, Kimberly, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
    Preceding her in death were her son, Stephen; her parents, her brothers: Albert (Koby) and Robert (Whitey) Kobussen; two sisters: Gladys Tennessen and Eileen Tennessen.
    Funeral services for Annacile will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere Street, Menasha, WI. Visitation will occur at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass.
    On Annacile's behalf, her family expresses deep and heartfelt appreciation to Community Care of Central Wisconsin for providing an immeasurable quality of care, love and concern over the past 4 years. Their presence in Annacile's life changed everything. The family also extends deep gratitude and thankfulness to the staff at Sylvan Crossing Memory Care for providing the most excellent care to Annacile during the last 4 months of her life. Their ability to love and to dedicate themselves to caring for those who cannot care for themselves will always be remembered.

    Bob was born April 3, 1936 in Kaukauna. He was the son of Gordon and Mary (VanDyke). He is survived by his wife Muriel (Van Den Elsen) of 58 years in marriage, siblings Lavern Wirth, Shirley Dennis, Glen Frank, and his ten children; Peter (Amy Nickel), Julia (John Lee), Mary Seis, Timothy (Lana Olsen), Donna (James Schmitz), Robert Jr (Debbie Dawes), Barbara (Darren Johnson), Jeffrey (Katrina Zich), Molly Frank, and Michelle Smalls. He was grandpa to 27 wonderful and beautiful grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clayton Frank and sister Jean Bowers.

    As a child, Bob attended Holy Cross School where he excelled at sports and had a regular spot in the local paper to highlight his accomplishments. Sports continued to be a passion throughout his life. He loved the Catholic Church and his greatest accomplishment was instilling that strong faith in his ten children.



    Bob liked the simple things in life, and enjoyed spending time with his large but very close family. He prided himself on having children that were open, accepting and charitable. He taught his children that everyone is the same in God's eyes and that everyone should be treated equally. He was devoted to his wife and took care of her every need. She truly considered him her best friend. Among many fond memories, Bod will be remembered for his light-hearted sense of humor and his strong moral convictions.

    The funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 220 S. Michigan St. De Pere on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. RYAN FUNERAL HOME, De Pere is assisting the family.
