    William Phillips
    1-26-1912

William Phillips, aged 42 years, died Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock of paresis after an illness of over a year, the disease having made constant inroads on his mind. Otherwise his constitution was quiet, rugged and while around the house, he was always cheerful and his same jovial self the boys always knew with whom he associated.

The deceased grew into manhood in Kaukauna. When but a boy, he started to work at the old Badger paper mill to learn the paper making trade and became an expert in that occupation. Having become proficient in paper making, he finally went from here to Niagara and was employed for three years at the big plant there, then removing to Hamilton, Ohio, where his family is still located.

Deceased was born at Milwaukee, November 4, 1859, and came with his parents to Kaukauna in 1880, the year that the Kaukauna water power canal commenced building, being then eleven years of age. South Kaukauna has become a city since his arrival here and he had seen all the principal improvements and the great industrial plants established here which contribute so much to the permanence of the city. His jovial and compassionate nature always led him to enjoy the leading sports and he became the popular first baseman of the Kaukauna baseball team while that organization existed. Fifteen years ago he was married to Miss Elizabeth Callahan at Niagara, who with three children survive: Grace-Florence and Gladys Phillips of Hamilton; also surviving is his mother, Mrs. Mary Phillips, Doty street, where he died, his sisters, Mrs. Margaret Breen and Mrs. J. J. Connelly of St. Paul, Minn; Mrs. E. McGann of Glenwood, Mrs. Martha Green of Appleton and Mrs. Robert Green of Ottawa, Ill.; and brothers, Edward, Charles and George Phillips of Kaukauna. His wife and sisters were all here before his death to bid him the last long farewell.

The funeral was held Thursday morning at nine o'clock from Holy Cross church with Father. P. J. Lochman officiating. Interment was in the family lot by the side of his father.

The pallbearers were James McFadden, John Mueller, Jos. Wittmann, Rich. McCarty, Jos. Murphy and Fred Reichel.
