    Katherine and Phillip had a farm in Chilton, WI, and raised their family there. Katherine died from influenza and was survived by her husband, Phillip; sons, Henry M., Phillip, Otto, George; daughters, Mrs. Charles Groeschel, Mrs. Henry Millay, and Mrs. Rose (John) Denissen; sisters, Mrs. Conrad Wetzel and Mrs. Emma Dobratz.

    Mrs. Margaret Ortlieb was born June 11, 1818, in Hanover, Germany, and died in town of Brothertown, Wisconsin, Oct 9, 1902, aged 84 yrs, 4 months and 29 days. In her death another old settler in this part of the country, after a life of patient toil, has been gathered unto the fathers.

    In 1847 she was united in marriage to Mr. Matthew Ortlieb, of Calumet, Wisconsin where they resided until 1852, when they moved to New Holstein. In 1854 they came to Chilton, where Mr. Ortlieb in 1855 built the American House, the present Schweitzer house, and had the management of the same for a number of years. They then sold the hotel and moved on their farm a little south of the city, where Mr. Ortlieb died, May 4, 1888.

    To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. One daughter preceded them to the spirit world. Louis, John and Mary (Mrs. Lamboy, of Milwaukee) and one step son, Mr. Philip Ortlieb are left to mourn her death.

    With the exception of rheumatism she had been of good health nearly all of her life, her final sickness lasting only 12 hours. She then passed peacefully and without struggle to her rest. She was taken sick Thursday morning and died at 2 p.m. The funeral services were held Saturday and were conducted by Rev. Wm. A. Arpke at the home of her son, Louis with whom she made her home for many years. Interment in Breed's cemetery.

    Louis and Amelia lived in Chilton, WI, where they raised their family of one daughter, Mary, and five sons, Louis A., Frank, Ernest, Herbert and Philetus.

    LOUIS ORTLIEB DIES AT HOSPITAL IN GREEN BAY

    Chilton – Louis Ortlieb, 74, of this city, died at a hospital at Green Bay at noon on Friday. Mr. Ortlieb was born in this city in 1853. In 1882 he was married to Miss Amelia Luhn of Fond du Lac. They located on a farm south of the city, and operated this and afterward another farm until 1918, when they moved to this city, in a new home which they erected on Market St.

    Mr. Ortlieb is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. John Reinbold, and four sons, Frank of Stockbridge, Ernest of Milwaukee, Herbert of Chilton town and Dr. Philetus of this city. He also leaves four grandchildren.

    The funeral will be held from the residence at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, the service being conducted by the Rev. Luther Harwood. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery.

    Chilton, WI - The funeral of Louis Ortlieb, who died Friday in Green Bay, was held from the home on Market St., Monday afternoon, the service being conducted by Rev. Luther Harwood of Trinity Presbyterian church. The pallbearers were William Schafer, Ralph Mortimor, George Winkler, Fred Larson, Andrew Stevens and John Arps. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.

    Among those who attended the services were Mrs. and Mrs. J.M. Petersen, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luhn, Mrs. and Mrs. William Luhn of South Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Luhn of Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Emma Rondo of Racine; Mrs. M. Koenig and daughter Laura of Calmetille; Mrs. A. Minch and Mrs. L. Snyder of Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lamboy of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Roland Lamboy, Mrs. Louis Lamboy of Milwaukee, and Miss Madeline Reinbold of Madison.

Amelia Luhn

  • Note: Mrs. Louis Ortlieb, 96, of Chilton, a resident of the Enders Nursing Home in Glenbeulah (Sheboygan Co., WI) for the past year and a half, died this Wednesday morning after an illness of two weeks.

    The former Amelia Luhn was born 20 Nov. 1860 in Chilton, WI, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Luhn. When she was five years old, she moved to Fond du Lac with her parents where she attended both English and German schools.

    She was married to Louis Ortlieb on 25 Dec. 1882, at Fond du Lac. They moved to Chilton following the marriage. She was a member of the German Ladies Aid Society and also the Woman's Relief Corps of Chilton. Her husband died 16 Sept. 1927.

    Surviving are daughter, Mrs. J.E. Reinhold of Chilton; four sons, Frank of Stockbridge, Ernest of Burbank, Calif., Herbert and Dr. P.H. Ortlieb of Chilton; a sister, Mrs. Julius Peterson of Clinton, Iowa; one brother, William Luhn, of Milwaukee; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by one son (Louis A.), four brothers and a sister.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24, at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton. The Rev. W.J. Griffith, pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Chilton.
