He was born on August 13, 1924, in Menasha, the son of Harry and Mary (Mackin) Schommer. Don was united in marriage to Alice Behm, on March 6, 1948, in Lynwood, California. He was an avid golfer, artist, Packers and Brewers fan, and misguided Cowboy fan. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in January of 1946, he enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard, until he was honorably discharged in March of 1949. Donald was employed with American Can for 40 years, and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Parish, Neenah. His family will greatly miss his witty sense of humor.

Donald is survived by his wife of 69 years: Alice; 3 children: Peggy (Rick) Brinkman, Cliff (Pat) Schommer, and Patrick (Judy) Schommer; 3 grandchildren: Christinna (Erik) Kersten, Shelly (Shawn) Rohde, and Jessica (Corey) Stier; 5 great-grandchildren: Carter and Devin Rohde, Oliver, Quinnlee, and Ledon Stier; a sister: Maureen Sokel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
