    Niles Refuses to Prosecute Boys
Declares He Gave Permission to Young Men to Take His Car
Fred Niles, whose automobile was taken from his garage and wrecked by Irvin Born, Harry Welhouse and Bradford Doeing a few nights ago, Thursday declared in court that he had granted permission to the boys to take the car after the boys had told the police that they had stolen it. Following his statement the case against the three young men was dismissed on motion of district Attorney Fred. V. Heinemann.
Immediately after the accident, in which the car was wrecked and Welhouse injured, the young men admitted that they had taken the car without permission. The next morning Mr. Niles also is said to have told the police that he had not given the use of the machine. Thursday morning, however, he said the boys were given the right to use the car and refused to prosecute.

3 Appleton Boys In Jail In St. Louis
Bradford Doeing, Ruben Kleist and John O'Hanlon Charged With Stealing Automobile in Milwaukee -- Caught After Chase.
Three young men, believed to be from Appleton are in custody of police in St. Louis, Mo., charged with stealing an automobile in Milwaukee and with being implicated in an automobile theft ring, according to information received her Monday morning. The young men gave their names as Bradford Doeing, Ruben Kleist, and John O'Hanlon but their addresses were not noted.
Information from Milwaukee indicated that two members of the Milwaukee police department now are on their way to St. Louis to get the young men and return them for trial.
A Milwaukee paper described the arrest as follows:
An alleged ring of automobile thieves is believed to have been uncovered with the arrest of three men in St. Louis on Saturday, who are said to have confessed to the theft of the car of a Milwaukeean here, according to the police Sunday night.
The men held were arrested after a thrilling chase through the streets of St. Louis and the neighboring countryside. The men, who were driving in the car alleged to have been stolen in Milwaukee, were outdistancing their pursuers when a front wheel on the automobile broke, throwing the car into a ditch. None of the men was injured.
    Deny Car's Identity
When taken into custody they gave the following names to St. Louis police: Bradford Doeing, alias William Blum, alias William Doeling; Ruben Kleist and John O'Hanlon. The men are not known to Milwaukee police and following investigation were not believed to have been living there.
The automobile found in their posession is said to be that of Edward L. Cheetham, 649 Farwell avenue, which was reported stolen from in front of the M. A. C. building on the night of Nov. 21.
The men are said to have denied the identity of their maching and that stolen from Mr. Cheetham, believing that the changed engine number, coat of paint, and substitution of various parts from other cars would effect a sufficient disguise. AFter severl hours grilling they confessed to the theft, according to the police.
The car bor an Illinois license plate when taken by the police. The inability of the men to explain satisfactorily how they had come in possession of the license plate and several other angles of the case which are being investigated made the police believe that a number of automobile thefts may be traced to the trio.
