    Norbert was born on May 30, 1918 in Browns Valley, MN the son of Anton & Anna (Keyser) Barten. On August 29, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mary Marcella Rosandich in Bakersville, WI.

    He is survived by three children, George "Buddy" (Bonnie) Barten of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Nancy (Darrell) Buettner of Sun Prairie, WI and Patricia "Pat" (Jerry) Jensen of Chilton, WI. Seven grandchildren, Todd Barten, Lynette Schauer, Scott Buettner, Robert Buettner, Michael Buettner, Bethany Wiskow and Daniel Jensen. 15 great grandchildren and two sisters, Lucille Schmidt of Marshfield, WI and Mary Ann (Harvin) Abrahmson of Milwaukee, WI.

    Norbert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2006, his parents, three brothers, George, John and Edward and three sisters, Ethel, Leona and Roberta.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville.

Mary Marcella Rosandich

    Mary Marcella Barten was born on Oct. 13, 1917, in the town of Sherwood, in Clark County, the daughter of Steve and Katherine (Mazar) Rosandich.

    After her schooling, she worked as a nanny in Gary, Ind., and Woodstock, Ill., before working in a defense plant for the United States Military in a General Motors factory in Chicago, Ill., until 1942.

    Mary was united in marriage to Norbert Barten on Aug. 29, 1942, in Bakerville. They raised their family and farmed first in the Heathville area, northwest of Chili, and later in the town of York until retiring.

    She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, The Altar Society and St. Cecelia's Circle in Neillsville.

    Mary enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed fishing, gambling, traveling south, mainly the Southwest for the winter for the past 12 years, crocheting and patch quilting. She was an excellent cook.

    She is survived by her husband, Norbert of Granton; her children, George "Buddy" (Bonnie) Barten of Wisconsin Rapids, Nancy (Darrell) Buettner of Sun Prairie, and Patricia "Pat" (Jerry) Jensen of Chilton; seven grandchildren, Todd Barten, Lynette Schauer, Scott Buettner, Robert Buettner, Michael Buettner, Bethany Jensen and Daniel Jensen; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Louie (Libby) Rosandich of Wisconsin Rapids, Helen Schultz of Granton, Amanda Glinieck of Stratford, and Paul "Murph" Rosandich of Lodi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Preceding Mary in death were her parents and siblings, Joe, Mike, John, Steve, Thomas and Nick Rosandich, Rose Bymers and Annie Bartel.

    The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. The celebrant will be the Rev. Joseph Follmar. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Corpus Christ Catholic Church in Bakerville with Fr. Sebastian Venni officiating.

    Visitations will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until time of service.

    Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

    Lucille was born on October 4, 1921 in DePere to Anton and Anna (Keyzers) Barten. She was a 1939 graduate of McKinley High School in Marshfield.
    She was united in marriage to Harvey M. Schmitt on June 6, 1942 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Harvey died on November 19, 1981.

    Very active, Lucille was past President, Treasurer and head cook for the PCCW of Corpus Christi and General Leader of Golden Glow 4-H Club for more than 10 years. She also enjoyed the Nasonville Homemakers group, league bowling, entertaining, baking, cooking, gardening, berry picking trips, canning, playing cards, particularly sheepshead and smear, snowmobiling, and an occasional trip to the casino. She loved bird watching and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always busy on the farm, Lucille and Harvey eventually took their first trip to Las Vegas in the early 70's after which an annual trip of some sort became a priority for them.

    Even after Harvey's passing, Lucille continued to enjoy traveling with her sister Mary Ann to Europe and at her young age of 85, Lucille attended a grandson's wedding in Jamaica and a granddaughter's wedding in Alaska.

    When most her age were planning their retirement, Lucille started up and operated an Adult Family Home in Marshfield for more than 20 years. She provided exceptional and loving care to women in their senior years.

    Lucille is survived by her children, Judy (Jerry) Sojka of Pittsville, Gordon (Becky) Schmitt of Sobieski, Kathy (Jeff) Glahn of Gettsyburg, PA, Marilyn (Steve) Vanderwyst of Marshfield, Kris (Eugene) Doering of Marshfield and Michael Schmitt; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is further survived by one sister Mary Ann (Harvin) Abrahamson of Wauwatosa and a sister-in-law Alice Barten of Appleton.

    Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Marie Barten, George (Betty) Barten, Ethel Bouchonville, Roberta (Fred) Axford, John Barten, Edward (Betty) Barten, and Norbert (Mary) Barten.

  • Note: Alice M. Barten, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at home. Alice was born on October 30, 1927 to Herman and Gertrude (Wojahn) Lewin. She married John Barten in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 2002. Alice worked at Prange Way for many years. After John's retirement they moved to Sun City Arizona and spent 20 wonderful years there. Together they enjoyed square dancing. After John died she moved back to the Appleton area. Alice also enjoyed reading, knitting, watching Dancing with the Stars and the Brewers, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Alice is survived by two sons; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, a sister Lucille (Carl) Erdmann, a brother John (Ann) Lewin, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The memorial service for Alice will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 912 N. Oneida St. with Rev. Lloyd Luedeman officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
