  • Note: Jean Dorothy (Kofler) Braun, 77, of Menasha, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born August 6, 1938, in Neenah, the daughter of Greg and Mary (Long) Kofler. Jean graduated from Neenah High School, class of 1956. She married Norbert Braun on October 1, 1960 whom she met while working at Banta Company. Jean worked at Menasha High School for many years where she was affectionately known as "The Zaug Lady." Norbert & Jean were members of St. John the Baptist Parish in Menasha where she was a member of the Rosary Society, Eucharistic Minister at Theda Clark and visited homebound members. She was also a Red Cross and St. Elizabeth Hospital volunteer as well as a member of the Nicolet Ladies. Jean enjoyed helping at Father Carr's Place 2B, in Oshkosh, and was a 4-H leader and den mother for scouts. Norb & Jean hosted two foreign exchange students one from Panama and another from the Czech Republic. Some of her greatest moments were camping and traveling in their motorhome with family and friends; especially the Knights of Columbus and the Winnebago Wanderers Camping Group. She enjoyed making applesauce with family and friends, flowers, and her garden. A highlight of her job at Zaug's Vending was her 10 years working at the EAA Fly-in where she once got to ride in an open-cockpit airplane. Jean especially enjoyed her grandchildren's activities including music programs, track and cross country meets, soccer, baseball and basketball games. A favorite time was meeting with her friends on Friday night for a fish fry followed by sheepshead or other card games.

    Survivors include her husband Norbert; children: John (Linda) Braun, Appleton; Dan (Betty) Braun, Neenah; Cathy (Lee) Jess, Ripon; and Barb (Dan) Unruh, Neenah; ten grandchildren: Katelyn, Alyssa, Danielle and Michaela Braun, Jeremy and Jordan Jess, and Lucas, Lauren, Ethan and Evan Unruh; a brother: John (Pat) Kofler of Neenah; a brother-in-law: Kenny Lorenz, Black Creek; nieces, nephews and many friends.

    Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Alice Lorenz and a niece: Laurie Lorenz.

    A funeral service will be held at 11AM, on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere St., Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Menasha. Visitation will be Friday, at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., from 4:00PM - 7:00PM and again on Saturday, at the church, from 10AM until the time of the Mass. A memorial is being established for Jean's favorite charities.

    Jean wanted all her friends and family to know that she loved them and thanked them for being there for her. "Life on earth is a temporary assignment. We were made to go back to God, live our life in love and service."
