    Menasha -- Funeral services for John Hyson, 71, Menasha, were held at St. Mary church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, with Rev. John Hummel in charge. Interment was made at St. Mary cemetery. Pall bearers were William Tulis, Philip Arft, John Arft, Herman Muehlenbein, William Mullane and John Pack.
    Hyson died about 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon after an illness of about four weeks. He was born in Neenah and has been a resident of the Twin Cities all his life.
    He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Shelly Cole of Akron, O.; Mrs. Howard Egan of Chicago; Mrs. C. E. Cass of Menasha; Beatrice of Menasha, and one son Adolph Hyson of Menasha.

    Miss Beatrice Hyson, Injured Near Cheyenne Tuesday Night, Passes Away at Western Hospital
    Menasha--Despite efforts of skilled surgeons, rushed west from Chicago by airplane, Miss Beatrice Hyson, 26, daughter of Mrs. John Hyson, 26 Broad street, passed away shortly after noon Thursday at the hospital at Burns, Wyo., as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident 26 miles from Cheyenne, Tuesday evening.
    Death was due to a brain concussion and internal injuries. Mrs. A. E. Oberweiser of Stevens Point, an aunt of Miss Hyson, was also seriously injured in the same accident. She is being treated at the western hospital for internal injuries, a fractured right arm and left knee.
    Mrs. Oberweiser's husband and Miss Hyson's mother and sister and Mrs. Howard Egan, Chicago, who was visiting here at the time of the accident, went to Wyoming early Wednesday , arriving there a few hours later.
    Born in 1911
    Miss Hyson was born Feb. 17, 1911, and after completing her studies at the Menasha High school was employed by the Banta Publishing Company, Menasha. Miss Hyson worked there until about two years ago when she went to Akron, O. to work for the Hallfield Publish Company.
    Feeling the need for a rest, Miss Hyson joined Mrs. Oberweiser at Phoenix, Ariz., about April 2. The two were returning to their homes after a short visit in California when their automobile skidded on wet pavement and left the highway.
    Surviving are the deceaseds mother, one brother, Adolph, and three sisters, Mrs. C. E. Caff of Neeneh, Mrs. Howard Egan of Chilcago and Mrs. Shelley Cole of Akron. Mr. Hyson left for Chicago today and will accompany the body here Saturday. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.

  • Note: MADISON-David J. Hyson, age 86, passed away at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI on April 29, 2014. Born in Neenah, WI on August 11, 1927 to Adolph and Loreane Hyson. Graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, Menasha High School, Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Member of Menasha High and Marquette University bands. Dance band musician/leader: 1941 - 1955; tennis player: 1936 - 2009. Worked as vocational/rehabilitation counselor at non-profit agencies and for State of Illinois and State of Wisconsin.

    He was proud of his years as a musician, and his work in rehabilitation counseling. He enjoyed listening to and talking with traditional jazz musicians; liked to play the piano; and wrote many a commentary about his diverse experiences. Some writings were in The Agora, a publication of PLATO, UW-Madison. He was a tennis player of high ambition and modest achievement.

    Preceded in death by sister, Kathryn Murray. Survived by wife, Margaret (Reiman); daughters, Melissa and Evelyn; brother, Frank (Mary) Cos Cob, CT and their children Kathleen, Rosemary, and Anne; granddaughter, Hazel Van Valkenberg; sister, Helen (Clay) Miller, Reading, MA; several brothers and sisters-in-law; nephews, nieces, and cousins.

    David was most appreciative of his family and his friends. He thanks Dr. Ken Felz and Dr. Praveen Deshmukh and many members of the medical profession for helping preserve him into old age.

    In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to the Greater Madison Tennis Association or the Madison Jazz Society.

    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
