  • Note: Mrs. Fred Weber, 62, of Hilbert, passed away at 8 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes hospital in Fond du Lac following a lingering illness.

    She was born in the town of Woodville, Calumet county, on April 29, 1889, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lauer*. She was married to Fred Weber on Nov. 10, 1914, at Chilton. The couple operated a farm in the town of Woodville following their marriage. In 1946 they purchased the Calumet hotel in Hilbert. They operated the hotel since that time.

    The survivors include her husband; one son, Hillard of the town of Woodville; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Bowe of Stockbridge; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Thiel of St. John, Mrs. Anna Albertson of Wauwatosa and Mrs. Serve Schmitz of Kiel; four brothers, George of Milwaukee, Peter of Chilton, Matt of Plymouth and Ted of Appleton.

    Funeral services will be held at the Techtman-Wieting Funeral home in Hilbert at 9:30 a.m., Monday, and at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Rev. Martin Jaeckles will officiate and burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

    Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m., Saturday, to the time of services.

    The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Note: Joseph Daun, 83, of Hilbert, ded Monday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, after a lingering illness.
    He was born on August 24, 1892 at Marytown, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Daun. On February 11, 1919 he married Mathilda Weber at Hilbert.
    After marriage the couple farmed in the Town of Chilton until 1948. His wife died on October 15, 1946. He moved to Hilbert in 1948 and was employed at the Aluminum Speciality Co., Chilton, for several years. Mr Daun was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hilbert, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Mens Club of the church.

    Survivors are a daughter Mrs. William (Patricia) Huebner of Evansville; a son Arthur of R. 3, Chilton; 12 grandchildren and five grandchildren. A son, a sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

    Funeral Mass will be Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, preceded by family rites at the Pfeffer-Wieting Funeral Home, Chilton. the Rev. Anthony Birdsall, pastor, will be celebrant of the funeral Mass.
    Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

  • Note: Mrs. Catherine Schommer, aged 76, died at her home in the town of Stockbridge Tuesday evening.

    She was born February 28, 1860, at Marytown and her maiden name was Miss Catherine Halbach. She was married to John Schommer at Marytown nearly 50 years ago. The couple moved to Chilton where they lived for four years. They then purchased the farm in Stockbridge town where they resided since. Mr. Schommer preceded Mrs. Schommer in death 27 years ago.

    Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Arens of Jericho, Mrs. Burton Buck of Sparta, Mrs. Earl Gerlach of Sheridan, Mich.; four sons, Jacob Schommer of Brothertown, John of Calumetville, Joseph of Stockbridge, and Frank at home; 21 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Schmitt of Sherwood, Mrs. Anna Olson of Milwaukee and one brother, Stephan Halbach of Fond du Lac.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at the St. Elizabeth Church at Kloten. The Rev. Francis Heimann will officiate and interment will be made in the Kloten cemetery.

John Schommer

  • Death: John Schommer died in January 1910, at age 72.
  • Note: John Schommer died at his home in South Stockbridge on Sunday last. The deceased was born in Germany, April 15, 1837 and in 1854 came to this country with his parents who located at Port Washington, this state. In 1864 he moved to Eden, Fond du Lac county, where he remained until 1884 when he located at Chilton and engaged in purchasing cattle. In 1886 he was married to Katherine Halbach and they located on a farm in South Stockbridge. His funeral took place on Thursday morning from St. Elizabeth's church at Kloten. He is survived by a widow and seven children.
