    She was born in Osier, Mich., daughter to William and Eva (Lalonde) Lancour.

    Phyllis was married to Victor DeRouin for 58 years. He preceded her in death.

    Phyllis was a devoted mother who always put her children ahead of herself. She lost three children at birth and raised seven. She fostered two children for eight years and gave them a stable and loving home. Her love of and faith in God was her reason for living and everyone who knew her benefitted from that.

    She loved to travel when she was able and making holiday decorations for others. Phyllis volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul for 35 years and committed herself to visiting the sick and shut-ins. Her baked goods were legendary to her family and friends.

    Phyllis was a member of St. Thomas Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Right to Life of Michigan.

    Among the survivors include her three sons, four daughters, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, and two brothers.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Gustafson; brothers, William, Ronald, Norman, Dale, Keith, and Floyd Lancour; and sisters, Yvonne Montgomery, Judy Eagle and Leola Wiltzius.

    She was born in Osier, Mich., the daughter of the late William and Eva (LaLonde) Lancour. On Aug. 10, 1949, she married William J. Wiltzius at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Escanaba.

    Leola attended Osier Elementary School and graduated as valedictorian from Rapid River High School in 1947. She briefly attended Cloverland Commercial College and worked for a short time at Prudential Insurance Company.

    For the majority of her married life, Leola lived in Wells, providing a warm and loving home for her husband and daughter. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, serving in the Women's Club and at funeral luncheons. For many years she coordinated the 'silver dollar booth' at the annual parish bazaar. She enjoyed keeping her home in immaculate condition, as well as sewing, crafts, cooking and camping at state parks throughout the Upper Peninsula. She especially enjoyed attending concerts, swimming and diving meets, and events for her grandchildren.

    Leola is survived by her husband, William; a daughter and son-in-law, two grandchildren, her twin sister, five other sisters, and two brothers.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, William, Ronald, Norman, Dale, Keith, and Floyd; and two sisters, Yvonne Montgomery and Judy Eagle.

    Visitation at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home, with reciting of the rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. Burial in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

William James Wiltzius

  • Note: William (Bill) James Wiltzius, 88, passed away at Eastwood Nursing Home where he had lived for the past 16 months. He was born at Chemical Plant Location, the son of the late Joseph and Esther (Olson) Wiltzius Sr. On Aug. 10, 1949, he married Leola Ann Lancour at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Escanaba.

    For most of his life, William lived in Wells, moving to Marquette in September 2011 to be close to his daughter and son-in-law where he lived at Lost Creek Apartments before moving to Eastwood Nursing Center with his wife, Leola, in January 2014.

    William attended Chemical Plant Location, Wells Elementary, and Escanaba Junior High Schools. He was employed at the Birdseye Veneer Plant and Harnischfeger Corporation (P&H). After a career of over 31 years at Harnischfeger, he retired in November 1983. He was a lifetime member of local 632 UAW.

    During weekends, vacations, and throughout the majority of his retirement, Bill could be found camping at various parks around the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin. Some of his favorite memories were camping at Van Riper State Park each summer with his wife's family. He is remembered for the pleasure he found in helping others, finding creative ways to fix things, and being the person that everyone in the campground could go to for spare parts and advice. He spent many hours attending concerts, swimming and diving meets, and other events for his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and out West. Highlights during retirement included attending his grandchildren's graduation from Michigan Technological University and the University of Texas at Austin. As a World War II veteran, Bill was a member of Honor Flight Five to Washington, DC in September 2013. He was thrilled to have his son-in-law, Kim, accompany him as his guardian.

    He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela (Kim) Erickson; and grandchildren, Nathan (Amelia) Erickson, and Elizabeth Erickson; his brother, Joseph (Butch) Wiltzius Jr.; and his sisters, Ruth Sovey and Florence (Flossie) Vandeville.

    He was preceded in death on April 9, 2015, by his wife of 65 years, Leola Ann Lancour; his brothers, Fredrick and George; his sisters, Mary Auger, Evelyn Dumas, Alice Vanderlinden, Edna Carter, and Irene Gorenchan.

    Visitation at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home, with Delta County Veterans Council rites. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Antony of Padua Parish with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Burial in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

    His family especially thanks the caring and compassionate staff at Eastwood Nursing Home and Dr. Catherine Kroll for taking such wonderful care of him during these past 16 months.

    She was the daughter of William and Eva (LaLonde) Lancour. Wanda was raised in the Osier area and moved to the Escanaba/Wells area after high school.

    Wanda graduated from Rapid River High School in 1957 and attended Cloverland Business College in Escanaba.

    On Aug. 10, 1957, Wanda married Robert Orava in Trenary. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells.

    Wanda loved camping, snowmobiling, and taking her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on trips.

    She was employed by Kmart for 19 years, and worked at Walmart until her retirement.

    Wanda is survived by three children, Teena (Tim) Chiamulera, Christine (Francis) Berube, and Traci (Bob) Berube; several brothers and sisters; and nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Orava, and several brothers and sisters.

    She was the daughter of Henry and Filicate (LaLande) Drossart. Leatrice graduated from Rapid River High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Edwin Peacock on July 3, 1949.

    Leatrice and her mother owned and operated Jensen's Pasties in Escanaba for 27 years. Family was extremely important to Leatrice and she loved putting on family meals and would always lend a helping hand. She was an amazing seamstress, machine embroiderer, loved to cook, cake decorate and was a crafter and artist. Leatrice was happy to play the spoons or washboard with her husband Ed or son Mark at local nursing homes or family jams. Leatrice took her first Jet Ski ride at age 70 and even took a ride last July 4th on her 82nd birthday.

    Leatrice M. Peacock is survived by: her husband, Edwin; two sons and two daughters, eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Francis and Bud and sisters Mae and Audrey.
