    Herbert F. Vandenberg

    Age 76, died Wednesday, May 5, 1993 at Kaukauna Community Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 17, 1916 in Freedom, son of the late Theodore Catherine [Vanden Heuvel] Vandenberg. Herbert served with the 101 Airborne 'Screaming Eagles' during World War II in the European Theatre, Herbert married Renata [Gehrke] Hardy on December 21, 1968. Herb has been employed at Giddings and Lewis Foundry and later in the machine shop until his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed golfing and was very active with the Electric City Post 3319 of the VFW and American Legion Post 41. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Quarter Century Club of Giddings and Lewis and the Royal Order of Moose.

    He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Renata; four step children, William and Ann Hardy, Aurora, Colorado; Jane and Gene Schaefer, Kaukauna; Connie and Curt Wiegert, Manitowoc; Dave and Barb Hardy, Kaukauna; 15 step grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters in-law, Ray and Betty Vandenberg, St. Paul, Minnesota; Arnold and Harriet Vandenberg, Kaukauna; six sisters and four brothers in-law, Minnie Murphy, Kaukauna; Adeline Huven, Kaukauna; Vi and Bill Kussow, De Pere; Jo and John Anderson, Kaukauna; Marge and Marv Vander Velden, Little Chute; Mary and Bob Weyenberg, Town of Menasha; nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Norbert Vandenberg; two sisters, Frances and Clara Vandenberg; two brother in-law, Lloyd Murphy and Gerald Huven; sister in-law, Betty Vandenberg; a step grandchild, Kenny Schaefer.

    Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Friday, May 7, 1993 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna with Father Jack Mullarkey officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 3:30 p.m. until the time of services on Friday. A memorial fund has been established. Military services will be by the VFW and American Legion following the service.

    Clara Vandenberg, 7-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Vandenberg of Rose Hill, was badly bruised Wednesday morning when she was struck by a coupe driven by Norbert Remter of Kaukauna in front of the Rose Hill grocery store. Mr. Remter stopped his car and tood the child to the St. Elizabeth hospital at Appleton. She will be able to be taken to her home by Saturday.
    The child had been sent across the road to the store and was struck by the Remter car when she ran out onto the highway on her way home.

    (She acutally died in the hospital and did not return home.)

Rita was employed at Bowlby Candy and Quaker Dairy. She enjoyed knitting, camping, baking and visiting with family and friends.

    Rita is survived by a son, David (Susan) Van Boxtel, Appleton; a daughter, Sue (Brian) Young, Hortonville; a brother-in-law, Ray Vanden Heuvel, sister-in-law, Alice Ludwig; six grandchildren, Brian, Scott, Connie (Eric), Jenny (Mike), Katie (Wes), David II; and 7 great-grandchildren, Clara, Lucy, Emma, Jude, Tenleigh, Jaxon and Kingston. She is preceded in death by her husband, an infant brother, her brother, her sister, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in law.

    Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30-10:45 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Freedom at 2 PM.

    In lieu of flowers, donations will be given to EWTN, Our Lady of Good Help in Robinsonville, Wi, and for masses.

    The family would like to thank Fr. Falk for years of special visits, Kathy Menge for bringing her communion, and her caring family, and Century Oaks.

  • Note: Joan M. Diedrich, 80 of Appleton, was born to eternal life on, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. Joan was born on March 22, 1934 in Appleton to the late Paul and Evelyn (St. Louis) Ganzen. She was a lifetime resident of Appleton, graduating from Appleton High School. On October 3, 1953 she was united in marriage to Joseph Diedrich at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. Joseph preceded her in death on July 25, 2002.

    Joan was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton. She was an avid shopper and sports fan, she enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Badgers, cooking, keeping up with current events and history. Joan loved her 6 little angels; she was an excellent mother, with a heart of gold. Joan had a large family, and was able to keep up with everything going on in all their lives. She was thoughtful and caring and instilled these values in her family. Joan was so truly loved and will be greatly missed by her family.

    Joan is survived by her five children; Diane (Michael) Smith, Joseph (Kathleen) Diedrich, Linda (Daniel) Kahler, Janet (Jeff) Tessen, and Karen (Donald) Marx, by son-in-law, Bryan Mangan, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, by her sister Yvonne Smith, and by sisters-in-law Florence (Ray) VandenHeuvel, and Rita VanBoxtel. Also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, daughter Donna Mangan, and brothers-in-law; George Smith and Ernie VanBoxtel.

    A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St. Appleton. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the FUNERAL HOME.

    The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Rennes Health Care, and to Dr. Norman and the staff at Appleton Medical Center for all their care and support.

    Mangan, Donna L. Donna Mangan, age 50, of Appleton, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Appleton on September 30, 1955, to Joseph and Joan (Ganzen) Diedrich. Donna married Bryan Mangan on May 27, 1977, in Appleton. Donna enjoyed photography. She especially enjoyed the outdoors, golfing and hiking.

    Donna is survived by her husband of 29 years, Bryan; two children: Alana (Andy) Kluck and Neil Mangan; her mother, Joan; brother, Joseph (Kathleen) Diedrich; sisters: Diane (Michael) Smith, Linda (Daniel) Kahler, Janet (Jeff) Tessen, and Karen (Don) Marx; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph.

    Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Ruge officiating. Friends are welcome from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy a memorial fund is being established.
