    "Jim"Age 53. He was born on June 11, 1948, the only child of Fritz and Mary Liz (Hopfensperger) Liebl, formerly of Menasha and St. Coletta's of Jefferson, Wisconsin. He passed away in his sleep at Countryside Home in Jefferson, Wisconsin, on November 1, 2001. He is survived by his only cousin, Mary Kate (Handeyside) Webber at the family home in Menasha. He is also survived by his extended family: Lois Klatt, Menasha; Maury Wrase; and Judy Foth, Neenah; Jennifer DeBolt, Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents: Jacob and Margaret Liebl and Mamie and Eddie Hopfensperger; his aunts and uncles: Genevieve and Ethel Liebl, John and Kathleen (Liebl) Handeyside, Joseph and Dorothy (Wiesner) Liebl. Jim was a very unique person. He loved all animals, especially the family pets. He loved cows of any color. Jim had a great memory. He never forgot a name. Books were his friends and he loved to be read to. During his eleven years at St. Coletta's, he was the "Good Will Ambassador". He was loved by staff and residents alike. Funeral services for Jim will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at 4:00 p.m. at the Laemmrich Community Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee St., Menasha, with Father Michael Noreika, S.S.S. officiating. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will also be a memorial mass for Jim held on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Coletta's in Jefferson, Wisconsin.Laemmrich Community Funeral Home 920-722-8252.

    Mrs. Harold Jerke (Gertrude Hopfensperger) formerly of 318 S. Walnut St., Appleton, age 91, passed away suddenly at 6:30PM Wednesday, February 28, 1990 at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute. She was born on May 10, 1898 in the Darboy area. On May 15, 1923 she married Harold Jerke at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. She lived in Appleton most of her life and was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Ladies.
    She is survived by a daughter, Vivian Bayer, Appleton; three granddaughters and their spouses; Ann and Gary Hoerning, Darboy; Barb and Gary Stadler, Darboy; and Trudy and Alan Rougeaux, Neenah; five great grandchildren; Michelle and Bryan Hoerning, Eric and Andrea Stadler, and Krista Rougeaux, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son in-law, William Bayer; her parents; Andrew and Elizabeth (Geiger) Hopfensperger. All her brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
    Complete funeral services will be conducted on Friday March 2, 1990, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with the Rev. John Zickert officiating.     Harold J. Jerke, 318 S. Walnut St., Age 89, died 6:50 AM Wednesday, July 9, 1986, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, following a two week illness. He was born December 25, 1896 in Kaukauna, and had been an area resident all of his life. On May 15, 1923 Harold married Gertrude Hopfensperger, in Appleton, and shared 63 years together. Harold will be best remembered as park superintendent for the city of Appleton, from 1936 until his retirement in 1966. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its Holy Name Society, and a Catholic Order of Foresters.
    In addition to his wife, Gertrude, he is survived by a daughter, Vivian (Mrs. William) Bayer, Appleton; three granddaughters and their husbands; Ann and Gary Hoerning, Kaukauna; Barb and Gary Stadler, Appleton; Trudy and Alan Rougeaux, Neenah; four great grandchildren; Michelle and Bryan Hoerning, Eric and Andrea Stradler; a sister in-law, Mrs. Clara Probst, Appleton.     Mrs. Walter Merkes [Della E. Nettekoven] 1720 W. Glendale Ave.

    Age 89, died Saturday, November 28, 1992, following a short illness. She was born in Sherwood on January 8, 1903, the daughter of the late Hubert and Ameilia [Hopfensperger] Nettekoven. On November 16, 1920, Della married Walter Merkes and lived in Appleton until 1936 when they moved to a farm in Grand Chute. Della lived there until 1988 when she mover to her home on Glendale. Walter preceded her in death in 1964. She was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

    Survivors include two daughters and sons in-law, Lilas [Glen] Van Straten and Joyce [Robert] Van Fossen, all of Appleton; and four sons and three daughters in-law, Kenneth [Ann] Merkes and James [Mary] Merkes, all of Appleton, Norbert [Carmen] Merkes, Shiocton, and Richard Merkes, Greenleaf. Della is survived by 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchldren and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane; a sister Lorraine Baldwin; a brother, Arnold Nettekoven; a daughter in-law, Carol Merkes; a grandson, William Heimann; and three granddaughters, Judy Heimann, Mary Lynn and Mary Beth Merkes.
    The mass of resurrection will be held on Monday, November 30, 1992, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., with the Rev. Bill Van Oss officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may cll directly at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established. The Wichmann Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

    Age 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday afternoon. He was born January 11, 1899 in Appleton and lived on a farm in Grand Chute for the past 29 years.

    He is survived by his wife, della; two daughters, Mrs. Edward [Lilas] Heimann and Mrs. Robert [Joyce] Van Fossen, both of Appleton; four sons, Kenneth and Richard, both of Appleton; Norbert, Shiocton and James, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Captain and Mrs. William Bauer, both of Milwaukee; 19 grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Keller officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday where the rosary will be prayed at 9 p.m.

    Arnole H. Nettekoven Sr. Rt. 2, Black Creek

    Age 76, died Monday evening after a short illness. He was born February 11, 1906 in Sherwood, Wisconsin. He was a son of Hubert and Amelia Nettkeven. He was married to the former Irma Schmaling, on June 29, 1927, and farmed in the Township of Center most of his married life. He is a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Mackville and formerly on the financial board and school board of St. Edward Church.

    Survivors include his wife, Irma; three daughters; Miss Shirley Nettekoven and Mrs. James (Donna) Steidl, both of Appleton; Mrs. Norbert (Betty) Kussow, De Pere; five sons; Robert, and Ronald, both of Black Creek; Donald, Arnold, Jr., and Rheinold, all of Appleton; a sister; Mrs. Della Merkes, Appleton; 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by a son, two grandsons, a brother, and a sister, Mrs. Lorrain Baldwin. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mackville, with the Rev. LeRoy Hogan officiating. Interment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Appleton. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trittin Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday until the time the cortege will leave for the church. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a scripture service at 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.

    Formerly of 2nd St. Menasha, age 68, died unexpectedly Friday evening at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. She was born on October 15, 1909 in Sherwood.

    Survivors include a daughter; Mary Richards and husband, Duane, Menasha, whom she made her home with for the last five years; two sons; Robert and wife, Barbara, Menasha; Thomas and wife, Jackie, Appleton; a brother; Arnold Nettekoven, Black Creek; a sister; Mrs. Delia Merkes, Appleton; five grandchildren; Stacy, Mark and Scott Baldwin, Menasha; Laurie and Brian Baldwin, Appleton.

    She was preceded in death by her husband; Evan, January 6, 1968.

    The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Laemmrich Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha with the Rev. Norman Fontaine officiating.     Age 64, passed away Saturday evening. He was born May 18, 1903 in Manawa and had been a resident of Menasha for the past 45 years. He was employed by the City of Menasha for the past 40 years and has been Superintendent of Streets for Menasha for the past 11 years. Mr. Bakdwub was a nenber if the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters of St. Mary's.
    Survivors include his wife, Lorrain; one daughter, Miss Mary, Menasha; two sons, Thomas and Robert, both of Menasha; his mother, Mrs. Mary Baldwin, Menasha; one brother, Gerald, Appleton; one sister, Mrs. Unice Zwerg, Appleton.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Laemmrich Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.     Joe Schaefer, 53, Combined Locks passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017 following a battle with brain cancer. Joe was born January 2, 1964, the third of six children born to Jack and Vivian (Van Lanen) Schaefer.

    Joe graduated from Kimberly High School in 1982-he was a proud member of the Papermaker Football team as an offensive lineman. He played baseball, CYO basketball and softball and made friends for a lifetime through sports. Joe was united in marriage to Barb Barclay at United Methodist Church in Seymour on September 25, 1987. Together they had two daughters Amber and Amanda. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing including many family fishing trips to Minnesota and Lake Winnebago. Joe was a member of the Kimberly Recreation Association board of directors for a several years.

    Joe was a sales rep for a food distributor and worked in the grocery business from high school until his retirement in 2015. He was an excellent salesman and was named "Salesman of the Month" on several occasions. He always made work fun and looked for ways to entertain coworkers especially his friends at Woodman's.

    Joe loved to cook and entertain. A perfect day for him was to fry up some fish and have some beer around the fire pit or in his man cave.

    Survivors include his wife, Barb and their children: Amber and Corey Evers and Amanda Schaefer (special friend Erik Nelson). His parents, Joseph (Jack) and Vivian Schaefer and siblings: Al (Sue) Schaefer and their children Christopher Schaefer and Taylor (Nick) Geske, Amy (Steve) Wieckert, Jane Schaefer (special friend Diane Jamison), Paula (Jon) Sanders and their children Jack and Noah Sanders, Pat (Jane) Schaefer and their children Samantha, Brandon and Ryan Schaefer. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law Scott Barclay and his children Bailie and Jake Barclay, Doug Barclay, and sister-in-law Bonnie (special friend Robert Gallegos) Mc Clone and her children Kristi (Richard) Rose, Morgan, and Mya McClone.

    Preceding him in death are his in-laws Maurice and Janet Barclay, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relatives, plus his childhood friend Steve Vandehey.

    Services for Joe will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday September 30, 2017 at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna with Deacon Jeff Prickette presiding. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
