  • Note: "Funeral services will be held at St. Boniface church, Friday morning at 9 o'clock for Frank Van Vonderen 65, who died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Paul Nachtwey, West De Pere, route 1. The Rev. L. A. Van Oeffel will celebrate the requiem mass and burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ellsworth and Leo Van Straten, Robert, Sylvester and Louis Van Vondern and Truman Borman, nephews of the deceased. The body is at the Ryan funeral home, where the rosary will be said tonight at 8 o'clock.

    The deceased was born Oct. 31, 1875, in Rockland and on May 20, 1902, was married to Annie Smits, Rockland, who, passed away Aug. 1, 1929. Mr. Van Vonderen was a member of the town board of Rockland for a number of years and in 1918 moved to a farm in the town of Lawrence, where he was also active in town affairs. He operated a threshing machine for ten years and was now retired.

    Surviving Mr. Van Vonderen are five sons, Lester, Norbert, Ervin, De Pere; Joseph, Green Bay; route 7; Private Earl H. Van Vonderen, United States Marines, stationed at Midway Island; six daughters, Mrs. Omer Vander Bloomen, De Pere; Mrs. Paul Nachtwey, Mrs. Michael Perock, Mrs. Norbert Vande Hei, West De Pere, route 1; Marion and Rosella Van Vonderen, De Pere; and a sister, Mrs. Michael Van Straten."

  • Note: Elmer Henry Van Gheem, 88, Pulaski, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 14, 2012, with family at his side. He was born June 3, 1924, at home in Brown County, to Harry and Dorothy (Gasall) Van Gheem. On September 3, 1949, he married Dorothy Hackl at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Isaar.

    Elmer enjoyed hunting in Wisconsin, Canada, and out west. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and traveling with his wife. Elmer was an active member in the Catholic Knights and in local snowmobile clubs. He was a Vigortone Dealer for many years. Elmer farmed his entire life, until he retired in 1986. He loved telling stories and jokes, socializing and playing cards.

    Elmer is survived by his fifteen children: Diane (Perry) Kepler, Carl (Ann) Van Gheem, Steve (Patricia) Van Gheem, Howard (Nancy) Van Gheem, Leland (Linda) Van Gheem, Barbara (Patrick) Blindauer, Dale (April) Van Gheem, Roy (Suzanne) Van Gheem, Carol (Michael) Allerton, Gary (Charlene) Van Gheem, Glen Van Gheem, Gail (Henry Jr.) Verbockel, Dorothy Morgan, DuWayne (Cari) Van Gheem, and Kris (Steven) Barrette; 32 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He is further survived by siblings: Dorothy Van Gheem Hoffman, Edith Mroczynski, and Joan Rueden; sisters-in-law: Virginia Ciesielczyk, Lucille Van Lannen, and Kathleen Kahnt; and brothers-in-law: Norbert Hackl, and Gerald Hackl.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; parents; an infant sibling, Vernon; an infant grandson, Jason Blindauer; brothers-in-law, Urban Hoffman, Edward Ciesielczyk, Basil Rueden, Lawrence Longtine, Leonard Mroczynski, and Jerome Van Lannen.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to Unity Hospice and Marla Vista Gardens.

    Friends may call at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Closing Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The visitation continues at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Church, W1888 Hofa Park Drive, Hofa Park. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church, Fr. Finian Zaucha, O.F.M. presiding, with burial in the parish cemetery.
