    A number of people from here attended the funeral of August Griepentrog at Morrison Lutheran Church Monday. Mr. Griepentrog was town clerk fo the town of Wrightstown some forty years ago and held the office in the town of Morrison some twenty seven years and was the organizer of the Morrison and Wrightstown Farmers Mutual Insurance Company.

    AGED WOMAN DIES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME
    KAUKAUNA-Mrs. August Griepentrog, 80, died here Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Weiland.

    She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. William Wiedenhoeft, and Mrs. William Enz of Denmark. Mrs. Charles Seiltz of Greenleaf, and Mrs. William Gehrke, Mrs. Fred Weiland and Mrs. Christ Kindler, all of Kaukauna; one son, Frank of Morrison; and two brothers, Matt Firmenich of Ashland and Charles Firmenich of Marshfield.

    The funeral will be held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon at the German Lutheran Church at Morrison, and interment will be in the parish cemetery there.

    GRIEPENTROG FUNERAL HELD AT MORRISON
    KAUKAUNA-The funeral of Mrs. August Griepentrog, 80, was held Thursday afternoon from the Lutheran Church in the town of Morrison. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery in that village. Mrs. Griepentrog died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Weiland of this city, Tuesday morning.

    Survivors are six daughters, Mrs. William Wiedenhoeft and Mrs. William Enz of Denmark, Mrs. Charles Seiltz of Greenleaf, Mrs. Christ Kindler, Mrs. Fred Weiland, and Mrs. William Gehrke, all of Kaukauna, one son, Frank of the town of Morrison, two brothers, Matt Firmenich of Ashland and Charles of Marshfield, twenty-nine grandchildren and sixty great-grandchildren. Mrs. Griepentrog was born December 25, 1845 in Germany and came to this country at the age of two years.

  • Note: Flora M. Appleton, Kaukauna, age 84, passed away peacefully with her husband Thomas Appleton at her side on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the St. Paul Home in Kaukauna, WI. She was born October 25, 1930 in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Bernard and Marie (Van Linn) Brouillard. Flora met Tom while working at Zwickers Knitting Mill. On September 5, 1958 they were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. They lived in the Kaukauna area their entire lives.

    Flora was a homemaker all of her life. After raising their five children, she worked for a few years at Butte des Morts Golf Course in Appleton and then at Colonial House in Freedom. Some of Flora's favorite pastimes were walking, swimming, working with her flowers, making crafts, sewing, puzzles, reading and baking. Everyone always loved her homemade chocolate chip cookies and apple pies! They were the best! She liked listening to a variety of music, especially Vince Gill and enjoyed going to some of his concerts. Flora bowled on a league in Wrightstown for many years. Tom and Flora loved playing Sheepshead and attending Packer games with their friends. After retirement, they were able to travel and visit many places such as Alaska, Branson, MO, western United States and Canada. They were members of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Flora donated baked goods for church events whenever possible. She also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in later years.

    She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas and their children: Lori (Rick) Hedtke of Appleton, David Appleton of Kaukauna, Stephen Appleton of Kaukauna, Kim (Scott) Walbrun of Appleton, and DeAnn (Jeff) Kohlbeck of Appleton, 6 grandsons: Derek and Aaron Hedtke, Thomas and Jacob Appleton, and Zachary and Luke Walbrun. She is further survived by her husband's family; Daniel (Nancy) Appleton of Kaukauna, Elizabeth Appleton of Appleton, Carol Appleton of Kaukauna, Tom Sutliff of Colorado, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

    She was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers in law: Mavis (Lloyd) Jansen and Shirley (Ewald) Gottschalk, and stepmother, Joy Brouillard. She is further preceded in death by her husband's family: Clark and Charles Appleton and Patricia Sutliff.

    The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna with Father Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Alzheimers Foundation of America.

    The family would like to express Sincere Thanks to the staff of St. Paul Villa and Nursing Home and also to Dr. Paul Russo along with the Kaukauna Clinic for all of their loving care and support.

    Mom- you were such a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. We love you and will miss you always. We're at peace knowing that your battle with dementia is over and we know you will be smiling down on us from heaven. You will be forever in our hearts, until we meet again.

    Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at Holy Cross Catholic church, Kaukauna, with burial in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral home this afternoon where the rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight.
    Survivors, in addition to the husband, are three daughters, Mavis and Flora, Kaukauna and Mrs. Ewald Gottschalk, Appleton, five brothers, Norbert VanLinn, Dearborn, Mich., Daniel, Kaukauna, and Ray, Peter and Eugene, Neenah; and three sisters, Mrs. Chester Baer, Neenah; Mrs. Woodrow Heilman, Kaukauna, and Mrs. Robert Hoffman, Milwaukee.

  • Note: Jean Carol McCann, 73, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday August 28, 2013 at The Lund Family Hospice Home , in Gilbert, Arizona with her loving husband Jim by her side, following 7 weeks of hospitalization in Gilbert and Phoenix, AZ.

    Jean was born February 20, 1940, in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of the late Fred and Kathryn Neilson Navarrete. When Jean was 9, the family moved from Milwaukee to Appleton, WI where she spent many wonderful years. In 1958, she married Lee Johnson in Appleton, they had four children together. Jean later married James McCann in 1983 in Kent, Washington.

    In September 1969, Jean graduated from the Waukesha County Technical Institute, Waukesha, WI, with a certificate in Practical Nursing, she later continued her education at the Maricopa Technical Community College, Phoenix, AZ earning her Associate Degree in Nursing in May of 1980. At the time of her retirement from nursing in 2005, she had been employed at the Seattle Veterans Administration Hospital for over 20 years. After retiring, Jim & Jean spent the winters at their home in Gilbert, AZ and the summers in their home in Des Moines, WA. Recently they sold their WA home and were living in Gilbert full time.

    Jean proudly served her country as a Captain in the US Army Reserves from 1989 - 1996, to include a tour of duty in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War in 1991. She received numerous medals and awards while serving, including the Army Commendation Medal for her exemplary service.

    The most important things in Jean's life were her children & her love of nursing. After her children were grown, she continued to nurture her grandchildren as well as other people's children. Her involvement with her church, the nursery and the Kid Reach program were also things she loved and cared about very much. Also dearly loved is her little pug, Heidi. Nothing put a smile on her face like Heidi!

    Jean is survived by her husband of 30 years, Jim McCann, 3 daughters, Kathie (Douglas) Cruz, Helena, MT., Leann Vogt, Gilbert, AZ, Jodie (Matthew) Miller, New Orleans, LA and son Scott (Tric) Johnson, Tacoma, WA., 9 grandchildren, Jason (Ruth) Schwark, Eric Schwark, Nicole (Tyson) Jenson, Heather Bender, Jaimee Vogt, Danny (Veronica) Miller, Caleigh & Max Johnson and Keila Capdepon, and 7 great grandchildren, Jenai, Makayla, Drew, Annie, Lilly, Makenzie and Braden. She is further survived by her sister Mary (John) Dennert, Fremont, NE and 2 brothers, Don (Helen) Navarrete, Kimberly, WI, Jack (Marsha) Navarrete, Lake in the Hills, Ill., as well as many nieces & nephews.

    The family would like to thank Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Barrow Neurological Institute and Lund Family Hospice Home . They tried with all of their expertise to keep Jean with her loved ones here on earth. Jesus felt she was going to be at home with him.

    A memorial service is not planned at this time but we will plan family get-together's to celebrate her life in the months to come. If you wish to make a memorial contribution in Jean's memory, we would be proud to have you contribute to a favorite charity of your choosing or to the " Hospice of the Valley " http://www.hov.org/donate who have provided comfort to some of our friends and was Jean's last resting place.

    Pelican Lake

    Age 74, died on April 26, 2002 at his home. He was born on October 7, 1927 in Appleton, Wisconsin to John and Katrina (VanBoekel) Willemsen. Harold attended schools in the Appleton area and then attended St. Norbert College where he graduated with a BS Degree in Chemistry. He then was employed by The Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton and then for the Combined Locks Paper Mill, for 28 years. Harold also owned and operated the Golden Sands Beach Resort on Pelican Lake for 38 years. In 1987 he moved to Pelican Lake to live year round. He married Ethel Milbach in 1951 and she preceded him in death in 1991. On November 14, 1992, he married Jean Barney-Riverside. He served in the Navy in World War II in the Atlantic Theatre and was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 377 and Catholic War Vets. He was also a member of the St. John's Catholic Church and the Elco-Pelican Lake Lion's Club. A memorial will be established in his name.

    Harold is survived by his wife, Jean, Pelican Lake, three daughters: Bridget (Dave) Froland, Appleton, Pamela (Paul) Vandenberg, Little Chute, and Christine (Gary) Mader, Hilbert five sons: Peter (Marilyn), Columbus, Ohio, Andrew (Pamela), Menasha, Matthew (Chieko), Japan, Thomas (Karen), Elcho and Thad (Laurie), Appleton 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Jean (Russell) Timm, Montello.

    Visitation for Mr. Willemsen will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2002 at the Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander and from 11:00-12:00 on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Pelican Lake. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 12 Noon at St. John's Catholic Church in Pelican Lake with Father James Kinney officiating. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is in charge of the arrangements.
