  • Note: Helen Josephine (Peeters) Mackowiak, age 78, of Manawa passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010, after a lengthy illness at Greentree Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 10, 1932, in Deer Creek WI, to daughter of the late Cornelius & Louise (VanDenElzen) Peeters. She was employed at Clintonville Glove Factory until 1955, at which time she married John Mackowiak. Together they raised six children on the family farm east of Manawa, WI. Helen was very involved with 4-H, as a leader of the Wisconsin Workers 4-H club. She worked with the lunch program at Manawa Middle School until 2002. She was a long standing member of both St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lebanon and the St. Agnes Alter Society. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bowling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

    Helen is survived by a son, David Mackowiak, Manawa; daughters, Donna (Trent) Ellifson, Strum; Linda (Don) Sanderfoot, Appleton; Jo Ann Mackowiak, Manawa; Kris (Peter) Thompson, Manawa; sister, Elizabeth Hansen, Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Benjamin Upward, Tacoma, WA; Timothy Upward, Chippewa Falls, WI; Theresa Stevens, Colorado Springs, CO; Carl Sanderfoot, Appleton; Jessica, Allison & Alex Thompson, Manawa; great-grandchildren, Blakelyn Upward & Anna Stevens. Helen is further survived by in laws, James Mackowiak, Willis Fritz, Ervin & Rosie Mackowiak, Helen Mae Peeters & Helen Petit, nieces and nephews.

    Helen is preceded in death by her husband John; a daughter, Kathleen (Mackowiak) Drath, an infant son, Benjamin, son-in-law, Richard Upward, her parents; brothers, Anthony, Joseph & Martin Peeters; sister, Agnes & brother-in-law Herb Hooyman, Dorothy Mackowiak, Rose Fritz; brothers in law Ray Petit & James Hanson.

    The funeral Mass for Helen will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in township of Lebanon; Msgr. Dennis Lally officiating. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church on Saturday, September 18 from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

  • Note: Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Hansen, age 84, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014, St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. On December 15, 1929, Betty was born in Deer Creek to Cornelius and Louise (Van den Elzen) Peeters. She was united in marriage to James Hansen on November 20, 1951; he preceded her in death on August 10, 2002. Betty was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha and volunteered her time in the church, school, and the cafeteria. She loved the Packers and went to many games, including the Ice Bowl in 1967. Betty enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Shawano Lake with her family. She had a love for dancing and enjoyed Polkas and Waltzes.

    Betty will be missed by her daughters: Gladys Hansen, Ann (Mike) Coughlin, Janet (Tom) Wagner; her grandchildren: April Wagner, Jamie, Michelle, and Tom Coughlin; a brother-in-law, Willis Fritz; sister-in-law, Helen Mae Peeters; and other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her sisters: Agnes (Herb) Hooyman, Dorothy (James) Mackowiac, Helen (John) Mackowiac, Rose Mary Peeters and Rose Fritz; and three brothers: Anthony, Martin and Joseph Peeters.

    The Funeral Mass for Betty will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, November 28, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street in Menasha with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. The Rosary will be recited from 9:00-9:30am with the Visitation starting at 9:30am until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in the Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

    Mackowiak Jr., John Francis John F. Mackowiak, 79, Manawa, passed away Sat., Sept. 22, 2007, after a short illness. He was born May 26, 1928, in Embarrass, Wis., son of John Sr. and Wilhelmina (Dillenburg) Mackowiak. He farmed with his twin brother until 1959 when he purchased his own in Manawa and farmed until 1989. During retirement he enjoyed watching sports, hobby farming, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family. He was an active member in the Knights of Columbus, Waupaca Farm Bureau, was a member of the Waupaca County Fair Board, and was a long-standing member of the St Patrick's Parish where he was secretary/treasurer of the St. Patrick's Cemetery for many years.

    John is survived by his wife of 52 yrs., Helen (Peeters) Mackowiak, Manawa; a son, David Mackowiak, Manawa; daughters, Donna (Trent) Ellifson, Strum; Linda (Don) Sanderfoot, Appleton; Jo Ann Mackowiak (Bill Dain), Hortonville; Kris (Peter) Thompson, Manawa; sister, Helen (Mackowiak) Petit, New London; twin-brother, James and Dorothy Mackowiak, Clintonville; Ervin and Rosie Mackowiak; seven grandchildren, Ben Upward, Tacoma, Wash.; Tim Upward, Eau Claire; Theresa (Sanderfoot) and Jonathon Stevens, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Carl Sanderfoot, Appleton and Jessica, Allison and Alex Thompson, Manawa. Further survived by brother-in-law, Martin Peeters, Shiocton; sisters-in-law, Helen Mae Peeters, New London; Betty Hanson, Menasha; Rose (Willis) Fritz, Clintonville and many nieces and nephews.

    John was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Drath; an infant son, Benjamin; son-in-law, Richard Upward; his parents, John Sr. and Wilhelmina; brothers-in-law, Ray Petit, Anthony Peeters, Joseph Peeters, James Hanson, Herb Hooyman and sister-in-law, Agnes Hooyman.

    The funeral Mass for John will be held on Monday, Sept. 24, 2007. at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in the Town of Lebanon, with the Rev. Msgr. Dennis Lally officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa on Sunday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

    Fritz, Rose M.


    Rose M. Fritz, 75, Clintonville, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Sunday morning, Dec. 20, 2009, at her home surrounded by family. The former Rose Marie Peeters was born July 26, 1934, in the Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County, to Cornelius and Louise (Van den Elzen) Peeters. In 1953, she graduated from Clintonville High School. On Sept. 10, 1960, she was united in marriage to Willis H. Fritz at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bear Creek.

    In her younger years, she worked at the Hansen Glove Factory, Clintonville, and was a waitress at several area restaurants like the Midway. For many years, Rose was employed by the Clintonville School District as a Secretary for the Elementary School principal. Then she worked for some time in the library at Bear Creek Grade School, retiring in the early 1990s.

    Rose is a member of St. Rose Catholic Church where she was active in the PCCW, she served communion to the homebound and organizing the sheepshead card parties. She volunteered not only at church but also in the community, with activities like "meals-on-wheels" for local individuals. Her interests included gardening, canning, sewing and picking strawberries. Rose enjoyed fishing up north at the cottage on Pelican Lake and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She especially loved spending time with family and friends.

    Survivors include her husband, Willis; three children, Steven Fritz, Mackville; Susan (Brian) Garrow, Appleton; and Daniel (Joy) Fritz, Shawano; six grandchildren, Kyle, Trisha, Ethan, Stuart Fritz and Heidi and Scott Garrow; three sisters, Elizabeth Hansen, Fond du Lac; Dorothy (James) Mackowiak, Clintonville; and Helen Mackowiak, Clintonville; three sisters-in-law, Helen Peeters, New London; Jean Fritz, Caroline; and Phyllis Brunner, Clintonville; three brothers-in-law, Duane (Joan) Fritz, Manitowoc; Douglas (Janet) Fritz, Marion; and John Draeger, Wittenberg. Rose is further survived by many nieces, nephews, dear neighbors, friends and her "granddog," Radar.

    She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Agnes Hooyman and Roseann Peeters; three brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Martin Peeters; and three brothers-in-law, James Hansen, John Mackowiak and Herbert Hooyman.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. Fr. John "Jack" Mullarkey will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.

    Peeters, Martin J.
    Martin J. Peeters, age 79 years, of Birch Rd., Shiocton (Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County), passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at St. Joseph Residence in New London. Martin Jacob Peeters was born April 15, 1928, in the Town of Deer Creek to Cornelius and Louise (Van den Elzen) Peeters. He dairy farmed his entire life on the family homestead, retiring in the early 1990s. Martin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and he also proudly served as a Nichols Co-op board member for many years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, deer hunting, and especially liked taking pictures.

    Survivors include four sisters: Elizabeth Hansen, Menasha; Dorothy (James) Mackowiak, Clintonville; Helen Mackowiak, Town of Lebanon; and Rose (Willis) Fritz, Clintonville. Further survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Peeters, New London; 36 nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

    Martin was preceded in death by two sisters: Agnes Hooyman and Roseann Peeters, two brothers: Anthony and Joseph Peeters, and three brothers-in-law: James Hansen, John Mackowiak, and Herbert Hooyman.

    The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Residence for their wonderful care given to Martin.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 1st, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bear Creek. Fr. John Mullarkey and Parish Director, Patricia DeGroot will officiate. He was born March 11th, 1915 in Appleton, son of the late Nicholas and Blanche (Brady) Green, and has been Appleton resident all of his life. Marvin was united in marriage to Lucille DeNoble on June 22nd, 1940 sharing 44 years together before her death in 1984. Marvin joined the Appleton police department on July 9th, 1940. He was with the department for 37 years before retiring in 1977 with the rank of Captain. Marvin attended Stevens Point University where he played on the football team. He was a sports enthusiast, playing softball with local teams, semipro football with the Manitowoc Chiefs and an avid golfer. Marvin was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks and served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1932 until 1940. Survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Dennis and Patricia Green, Pardeeville; Douglas Green, Madison; two grandchildren: Michael and Maureen Green; two brothers and a sister in law: Donald and Blanche Green, Appleton; Robert Green, Kimberly; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and William Platt, Menasha; a special friend, Winifred Wieseckel, Kimberly. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Leona Green. The mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 25th at St. Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Internment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
