  • Note: Age 82, died on Friday, April 12, 2002 after struggling with cancer for several years. Amedee was born July 9, 1919 in Norway, Michigan, son of the late Joseph and Hortence (Hofkins) Poppe. Amedee was a graduate of Kimberly High School. He enlisted in the United States Army - Air Force and during World War II was stationed in England. Following his discharge, he returned to Kimberly and was employed as a Research Technician by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation until his retirement in 1981. On October 26, 1946, Amedee married the former June Strutz at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. Mr. Poppe was an active member of the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion and was proud to have served many years on the Military Funeral Detail until the last few years of his life. Amedee enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing cards with family and friends. In their earlier years, he and June enjoyed square dancing. A favorite family hobby was camping, and for many years he belonged to the Packerland Camping Group in Green Bay and the Good Sams Camping Group of Shawano.

    Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years: June Poppe of Kimberly; two daughters: Sue (Harry) Kohler of Neenah and Dawn (Steve) Roder of Greenleaf; two sons: Jay Poppe of Atlanta, Georgia and Todd (Dawn) Poppe of Germantown; seven grandchildren: Matt and Pam Kohler, Jake and Rachal Roder, and Sara, Jason, and Nicholas Poppe; three sisters-in-law: Florence Poppe of Little Chute, Florence Poppe of Milwaukee, and Ruth Miller of Appleton; a brother-in-law: Robert (Ann) Strutz of Flora, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ann (Richard) Buechler and Mary (Sylvan) Williamson, brothers Albert (Martha) Poppe, Edward Poppe, and Frank Poppe, and a brother-in-law Edmund Miller.

    The funeral liturgy for Amedee will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, April 15, 2002 at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 3 PM until the hour of the liturgy. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

  • Note: June Marie Poppe, age 91, formerly of Kimberly, passed away at Century Oaks Assisted Living in Appleton on December 18, 2016, surrounded by her family.

    She was born on January 28, 1925, the daughter of Herman and Gladys Strutz, nee Webster. She became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, confessing her faith in Jesus as her Savior on her Confirmation Day at Zion Lutheran Church of Gresham, WI. After graduating from Gresham High School, she joined her sister, Ruth, in Kimberly where she started working as a paper inspector at the Kimberly-Clark fine paper mill located there. That's where she met Amedee "Speed" Poppe, who after returning from military service, became a research technician at the mill. She was united in marriage to Amedee on October 26, 1946, and they were blessed with 55 years together. After marriage June was a home maker and mother of 4. She was an early and lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church of Kimberly, serving on the altar guild, visitation committee, Lutheran Women's Missionary Society and the Lady's Aid. She also was an active member of the Kimberly Recreation Association, the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Circle Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She and Amedee loved square dancing and camping with the family. Favorite campsites were in the Nicolete National Forest, but she and the family also traveled to Disney World in Orlando and Yellowstone National Park. After living on James Street most of her married life, she moved to the Hallmark apartments in 2006. There she played cards, dominoes and Wii bowling. She was a good cook and an avid walker, contributing an untold number of casseroles and desserts for various functions and walking countless miles. June was known as "Petie" or "Aunt Pete" to much of her family and friends. Family gatherings and spending time with family and friends brought her great joy.

    Survivors include two daughters: Sue and Harry Kohler of Neenah and Dawn and Steve Roder of Greenleaf; two sons: Jay Poppe of Bradenton, FL and Todd and Dawn Poppe of Germantown; six grandchildren: Matt Kohler, Pam and Jesse MacDonald, Jake and Molly Roder, Rachal and Adam Krenke , and Sara and Nicholas Poppe; seven great-grandchildren: Aliyah, Adalee, Lofton and Kohler MacDonald, Grey Krenke, and Henry and John Roder; and a brother: Robert Strutz of Appleton, and God-daughter: Bonnie Hove also of Appleton . She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Ruth Miller, grandson Jason Poppe, brothers-in-law Albert Frank, and Edward Poppe and sisters-in-law Mary Williamson and Ann Buechler.

    The family thanks the staff at Century Oaks of Appleton for the compassionate care given to June for the past seven months. A sincere thank you is also extended to her care givers from Heartland Hospice.

    Funeral service for June will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at MT. CALVARY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, N 8728 S. Coop Rd, Menasha, WI with Rev. Jesse Johnston officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in the Appleton Highland Memorial Park.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church are appreciated.

    Little Chute

    Age 56, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 17, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born January 9, 1946 to the late Carlton and Mildred (Modl) Hauser. Don was in the U.S. Army and chose a career in the Automotive field. He got involved in stock car racing and raced for many years. He later joined the Fox River Racing Club where he took the role of Secretary/Treasurer. Don got his son into the racing world and was very proud of his son's accomplishments. He loved his many friends and colleagues at State Farm Insurance Company in Appleton, where he worked as an insurance estimator.

    Donald is survived by his ex-wife and special friend, Karla Hauser, Little Chute a son, Greg Hauser, Little Chute two daughters and a son-in-law: Cathy (Bob) Springer, Kaukauna Shellie Hauser, Appleton a stepson, Shawn Rusher, Appleton five grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan, Tyler, Trevor and Olivia a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis (Joan) Hauser, Little Chute six sisters and four brothers-in-law: Carla Frelich, Omro Jo Ann (Dennis) Hendricks, Cheri (Lyle) Frelich, La Rae Schell, all of Kaukauna Debra (Randy) Jansen, Darboy Terri (Randy) Van Den Eng, Pulaski numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Rutten and his godfather and special uncle, Marvin.

    The Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute with Father Frank Schrage officiating. Friends may call at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday directly at church until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

    The family would like to thank Dr. John Swanson, Dr. Philip Vogt, the nurse at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center and the nurses at AMC Oncology and ThedaCare At Home, for their care and concern.
