Terrence (Sharon) Sttner, both of De Pere; Mrs. William (Isabel) Schilbauer, Green Bay; Mrs. Joseph (Kathryn) Zeller, Newberry, Ohio; Mrs. Michael (Linda) Hanaway, Wrightstown, four brothers, Clement, Little Chute, Charles, Rt. 4, Appleton; Robert, Appleton and Ben Verbeten, Rt. 3, Kaukauna; three sisters, Mrs. Martin (Ardena) Van Gompel, Little Chute; Mrs. Lawrence, (Lillian) Ruckdashel, New London and Mrs. William Buriss, Atlanta, Georgia, and 31 grandchildren. Born on June 20, 1913, in Green Bay, she is the daughter of the late Fred and Emma (Destaercke) Daniels. On Sept. 14, 1935, she married Benedict Meulemans, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1981. Dorothy was especially proud of raising her five children. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, bowling, and crocheting.

    Dorothy is survived by five loving children, Gerrie (John) Dittmer, Green Bay; Mary Lou (Jim) Laws, Chandler, Ariz.; Bob (Char) Meulemans, De Pere; Tom (Pat) Meulemans, Green Bay; and Judy (Tom) Sunderland, Glendora, Calif; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbert (June) Daniels, Art (Florence) Daniels, and Carl (Liz) Daniels; one sister and brother-in-law, Mae (Elmer) Marchant; and one son-in-law, Wally Vanden Busch.
    Visitation at MALCORE (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird St., Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the procession to church. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 710 N. Baird St., with the Rev. Carl Meulemans and Msgr. Roy Klister officiating. Entombment at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Bishops Court for their compassionate care.

  • Note: Rita Schampers, 99, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Brewster Village. Rita was born on May 1, 1914 in Wrightstown to Peter and Mary (Klister) Meulemans. She married the love of her life, Leo Schampers on August 23, 1939 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown. She was a lifelong resident of the Freedom area where she and her husband Leo of 56 years farmed. Rita excelled at embroidery, giving all 24 of her grandchildren a picture to cherish. Rita enjoyed bowling and traveling with her husband Leo after they retired from farming. Rita was a member of the Christian Mothers and the Golden Agers of Freedom and Wrightstown.

    Rita is survived by her seven children; Alan Schampers, Kaukauna, Clarence (Joanie) Schampers, Shawano, Glen (Dolly) Schampers, Freedom, Vonnie (Dan) Diedrick, Kaukauna, Leo (Judy) Schampers, Kaukauna, Melvin (fiancée Lori Block) Schampers, Seymour, Mary (Mike) Daul, Mackville, 24 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 10 siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Barb.

    The funeral liturgy for Rita will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at ST. CLARE PARISH, ST PAUL CHURCH, 437 Main St. Wrightstown, with Fr. Carl Meulemans officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass at the church. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park.

    Rita's family extends their sincere appreciation to ALL the staff at Brewster Village for the excellent and loving care given to her. A special thank you to Care Minister Diane Baenen from St. Clare Parish for her many visits with Mom.

    Mom, you will forever be in our hearts, we love you and will see you again when we complete our journey. We find peace knowing you are once again with Dad.

Robert Clarence VandeHey

  • Note: Father Robert Clarence Vande Hey, O. Praem., age 84, a member of the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey, De Pere , WI , and a Norbertine priest, passed into God’s eternal kingdom on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

    Father Vande Hey was born on July 19, 1924 in Hollandtown , WI , to Peter and O’Delia (Meulemans) Vande Hey. His home parish was St. Francis Seraph Parish, Hollandtown , WI .

    In 1942, Father graduated from the Salvatorian Seminary, St. Nazianz , WI . He received a B.A. degree in Philosophy from St. Norbert College , De Pere , WI , in 1946 and a Ph. D. in Biology from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN in 1961.

    Upon entering St. Norbert Abbey, he was vested as a novice on August 28, 1943. He professed Simple Vows on August 28, 1945, Solemn Vows on August 28, 1948 and was ordained to the Priesthood on June 11, 1949.

    For the first years after his ordination, Father Vande Hey taught at Southeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia before his assignment to the biology faculty at St. Norbert College in 1955. (He retired as professor emeritus in 1989). Over time, he attended graduate and post graduate classes in biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison , the University of Pennsylvania , the University of Notre Dame, and Mount St. Mary College, Los Angeles , the latter with a Research Fellowship awarded by the Atomic Energy Commission.

    His doctoral dissertation drew international recognition, accolades , and honors. Father Vande Hey received a post-doctoral fellowship from the National Institute of Health’s U.S. Public Health Service to study at the University of Mainz, Germany, where he continued mosquito research under the director of the Institute of Genetics , the world authority on mosquito genetics. Father Vande Hey’s research and its results were published in various professional journals.

    Other ministries included formation with students at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago; chaplaincies at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth, Minnesota, and Benedictine monasteries of nuns in Duluth and in Idaho; and associate pastorates in Madison and Wyoming.

    He was the first Norbertine to encourage the adoption of an Order-wide International Website to enhance communication within the Order and to increase knowledge of the Order worldwide. His strong, good humored advocacy eventually won the day among the Order Hierarchy, resulting in www.premontre.org and the Internet Commission of the Order.

    Father Vande Hey is survived by the Norbertine Community; three brothers, Earl, Eugene ( Virginia ), and Arthur (Teresa); three sisters, Gladys Tennessen, Sr. Eugenia, OSF, and Grace (Marvin) Zwick.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.
