St. Charles Witnesses Sad and Solemn Event This Week.
St. Charles never witnessed an event so solemn as was the triple funeral on Tuesday morning, when the bodies of John Ebben and his son Will and of Edward Murphy were conveyed to the Catholic Cemetery, just north of St. Charles. Father and son were interred in one grave.
A very large concourse of relatives and morning friends accompanied the three biers, that bore the victims of Saturday's destruction to their last resting places and many earnest prayers were offered for the bereaved ones, who are left to mourn the sudden and untimely death of their loved ones. Thank God for the hope of an eternal life beyond the grave, where the dead, fair and beautiful to look upon with not a trace of today's disfigurement will be reunited once more with those from whom they were so violently snatched away.
The Funeral of John Ebben and his son Will were held Tuesday morning Mass was said for them by Father Horan at his home and the remains were taken from the residence of Patrick Cain, where the poor mutilated bodies were blessed and given the last sad rites of their church. Father and son were buried in St. Mary' cemetery beside the wife and mother who preceded them a few years. May God give the bereaved children his grace to endure their loss.; Winona Republican-Herald, October 7, 1903, Page 6.
