  • Note: JOHN VANDENHOY, a highly esteemed citizen of Grand Chute township, Outagamie county, who is engaged in farming on a fine property, is a native of Holland, where he was born July 10, 1845. He is a son of Theodore and Wilhelmina (Vanhoy) Vandenhoy, natives of that country, where the father carried on farming until 1870, and in that year the family came to the United States. On landing at New York, Mr. Vandenhoy's brother was taken sick and removed to a hospital, whence the father went to visit him and has never been heard from since. The family came on to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where they resided for two years and then went to Milwaukee. There the mother married again, and six months later went to a farm near Granville, Milwaukee county, this being her home for eighteen years, at the end of which time she came to the farm now owned by Mr. Vandenhoy, where she and her husband, John Heasacker, both died. The children born to Mr. and Mrs. Vandenhoy were: Dora, who is deceased; Hannah, the wife of Henry Hankens, a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota; Martin, who is deceased; and John. John Vandenhoy attended school in Granville, Milwankee county, and as a youth worked on the home farm. Later he rented the property, and at the time of his mother's death he came into possession of the eighty-seven acres, on which he has made numerous improvements. He has carried on general farming here, and his efforts have met with well-merited success. On November 21, 1883, he was married to Alice Guerts, who was born in Freedom township, Outagamie county, October 17, 1863, daughter of Jacob and Harriet (Weinan) Guerts, natives of Holland, who came to America after their marriage and located in Freedom township, where they resided during the remainder of their lives. They were the parents of four children: John, a resident of Freedom township; Anna, wife of Jacob Vanden Heavel, a farmer of Kaukauna township; Nellie, the wife of Henry Vanden Boogart, a resident of Crivitz, Marinette county; and Mrs. Vandenhoy. After her first husband's death, Mrs. Guerts married Albert Sanderfoots. Mr. and Mrs. Vandenhoy have had eight children, as follows: Mary, born January 5, 1885, wife of Charles Bender, a farmer of Grand Chute township; Jacob, born August 15, 1888, who died at the age of ten months; two children who died in infancy; Albert, who died aged three months; Minnie, born August 13, 1893, who died aged ten months; Anna, born April 17, 1895, and Albert (2), born May 9, 1898. Mr. Vandenhoy holds membership in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and belongs to St. Joseph's Society. He is a Democrat.

    Mrs. Anton Van Rooy, 62, Freedom, died at home about 12:30 Thrusday afternoon after a long illness.
    She was born Aug. 19, 1895, at Freedom.
    Funeral services will be at 9:30 Monday morning at the Verkuilen Funeral home, Little Chute, with the Rev. Halford Hietpas, pastor of the St. Nicholas Catholic church, Freedom, officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Saturday night and at 7 o'clock Sunday night at the funeral home.
    Survivors include the husband; three brothers, Joseph Sanderfoot, Little Chute, Lambert Sanderfoot, New London, and Theodore Sanderfoot, De Pere and two sisters, Mrs. Bert De Bruin, Appleton and Mrs. Harry Vander Wyst, Little Chute.

    Al Sanderfoot Rt. 1 Bear Creek

    Age 68, died suddenly Tuesday morning, February 10, in Clintonville. He was born May 8, 1907 in Freedom, Wisconsin. He married Esther Van Lanen April 15, 1929 in Wrightstown. Mrl Sanderfoot lived in the Freedom and Little Chute area for many years. He servied with the U.S. Army in World War II. He moved to Manawa in 1958, opering a restaurant there for six years, then moved to Bear Creek in 1964 where he ran a restaurant until his retirement two years ago. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a charter member of the Bear Creek Lions Club.

    Survivors include his wife, Esther; a daughter, Mrs. Ed [Laverne] Ellenbecker, Bear Creek; three sons; Al Sanderfoot Jr., New London; Lyle Sanderfoot, Appleton; and David Sanderfoot, Rt 1, Bear Creek; two brothers; Joseph Sanderfoot, Little Chute; and Theodore Sanderfoot, De Pere; two sisters; Mrs. Albert [dello] De Bruin, Appleton; and Mrs. Harry [Hattie] Van Der Wyst, Little Chute; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

    The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Bear Creek with the Rev. Joseph Shinners officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in the spring. There will be military services by the VFW following the funeral mass. Friends may call at Heuer-Siever-Stensrud Funeral Home, Clintonville, 2 p.m. Wednesday until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, where there will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers- Gerald Mares, Roland Clinton, Jim Mares, Mike Orr, Roger Jarvais, George Probst.

    Age 86, died Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. She was born November 10, 1915 in Holland, daughter of the late Frank and Jacoba (VanBeek) Roovers. On July 3, 1937 Marie married John Sanderfoot. The couple enjoyed 54 years of marriage to gether prior to his death in 1991. Marie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a great sense of humor. For over 50 years, she enjoyed playing cards with the girls in her card club. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, and the Altar Society. Survivors include her children: June "Cooky" Sanderfoot Jerry and Carol Sanderfoot and their children Lisa Sanderfoot, Amy (Kevin) Carstens and their family, Anna and Erik Merlin and Mary Sanderfoot and their children: Brian (Marni) and their family, Brant and Margaret Brad (Angie) and their daughter Addison Brandon (fiancee Beth Vandenberg) Brent and Briten Sanderfoot Marvin and Bonnie Sanderfoot six brothers and three sisters-in-law: John (Rose), Joe, Marty (Phyllis), Frank, George, Tom (Doris) two sisters and brothers-in-law: Ann (John) Baumann Martha (Clarence) Hackel, numerous nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her husband's family Cornelius Sweere and Josephine Sanderfoot. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, Janice two brothers three sisters and three sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with Father Jim Lucas officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday directly at the church until the time of services. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
