    Van Dinter, Effie Effie Van Dinter, 95, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Brewster Village in Appleton. She was born in Seymour, Wis., on March 2, 1912, to the late John and Lenora (Vander Hoff) Arps. She was united in marriage to Henry Van Dinter on Oct. 8, 1930, in Appleton. Effie enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and making her own clothing. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church of Appleton.

    Effie is survived by daughters, Elizabeth (Charles) Davidson, Charlotte N.C.; Kristen Babe, Greenfield; a son, Gerald (Lorraine) Van Dinter, New London; a daughter-in-law, Regina Van Dinter; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

    She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry; two sons, Henry Jr. and Robert; one sister, Edna Van Dinter; and one brother, Milton Arps.

    Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at 11 a.m. Father Michael O'Rourke will be officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

Magdalene Marie Clare VanDinter

    Maggie was born on May 22, 1923 the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Van Dinter in Appleton. Following her education Maggie worked at Zwickers Knitting Mill of Appleton for 22 years as a mender. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Appleton, and enjoyed working in the Family History Center of the church. Maggie loved the Lord with all of her heart. She enjoyed family, traveling, life and loved to write poems and crochet.

    Maggie is survived by her five children, James (Beverly) Roberts, Robert (Toni) Roberts, Charles (Donna) Roberts, Allen (Kathryn) Roberts and Sheila Roberts, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Antoinette (John) High.

    Maggie was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Vernon Roberts and Dean Ash and two brothers, Don and Gilbert Van Dinter.

    A memorial service will be held today at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 425 W Park Ridge Avenue, Appleton. Maggie's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Tuesday (today) following the service during the fellowship time. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the church.

  • Note: Gilbert George Van Dinter, 81 of Tomah, died Saturday, September 27, 2014. He was born on April 18, 1933 to George J. and Elizabeth Hoffman in Appleton, WI. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War on the SS Lake Champlain. On October 15, 1977, Gilbert was united in marriage to Marian Janusheske at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomah. Gilbert worked at Fort McCoy for many years. He worked in a variety of warehouse positions, retiring in 1988 as an equipment operator. He also worked for Scott Cranberry Marsh during the harvest season for over 30 years. Even though his age and colder weather were enough reason for him to retire from the work, the comradery and friendship Gilbert had developed over those many years, and the love of outdoors kept him going back every year. Throughout the years, Gilbert enjoyed travelling with Marian, visiting family and friends in Washington State, Florida and Puerto Rico. Gilbert had a great personality and was known to many as the “funny little Dutchman.” He was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and was an avid football fan. He also enjoyed dancing and polka music. Gilbert was a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

    He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marian of Tomah, 2 sons, Randall (Charlene) Van Dinter of Henderson, NV, Robert Van Dinter of Panama City, FL, 5 daughters, Renee (Tim) Flynn of Otsego, MN, Roxane Santiago of Las Vegas, NV, Rhonda Van Dinter of Elgin, IL, Mary (Jeff) Kurowski, of Green Bay, WI and Cindy (Dick) Peardot of Tomah, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Magdaline Ash of Little Chute, WI, Antoinette (Bud) High of Washington State, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Donald.

    A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomah. Pastor Curt S. Backhaus will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah and on Monday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Online condolences may be given at www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com .
