    DeGroot, Esther Margaret Esther Margaret DeGroot, age 86, passed away on March 27, 2006, after a short illness, at home with her loving family around her. She was born February 14, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Geising) DeGroot. Esther was a farmer and loved baking, trying new recipes, she was well known for her special Lemon Meringue pie and her famous Sea foam and real Fudge candies. She had a love for planting and growing flowers. Her family and friends will miss her deeply. Esther is survived by her caregivers: Gordon (Bev) Baumgart and Fred Baumgart; special friend, Jessie Meyerhofer; Robert Rutten and Debbie Haasley. She is further survived by nephews: Anton (Jean) DeWitt, Frank DeWitt, Bob (Carol) DeWitt, Bill (Dorothy) DeWitt, Victor (Karen) DeGroot, John (Diane) Baumgart, and Michael (Patti) Baumgart; and nieces: Elizabeth Jarchow, Mary Brown, Rose (Ken) Huss, Elizabeth (Bob) Price, Theresa Halverson and Geraldine Baumgart; and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by sisters: Frances (Kenneth) Hahnemann, Minnie (Anton) DeWitt, and Edith (Gordon) Baumgart; brother, Victor (Rita) DeGroot; nephews: Carl J. Baumgart, Jesse Baumgart and Dan DeGroot; and the love of her life, her special, special niece, Michelle (Baumgart) Rutten. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2006, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks, with Rev. James Lucas officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Interment will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. The family of Esther would like to send a special thank you to Rev.     Joseph Verhagen 424 W. Main St. Little Chute

    Age 78, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday following a brief illness. He was born March 22, 1894 in the Town of Vandenbroek. He was in th grocery business until 1944 and then he worked for the Oudenhoven Construction Co. until his retirement in 1959. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

    Survivors are his wife, Christine; a brother, John, Seymour; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Weyenberg, Little Chute; Mrs. Jary Hietpas, Appleton. Two brothers Harry and Martin preceded him in death.

    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute with Rev. Norbert VandeLoo officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral after 3 p.m. Tuesday and.

  • Note: Bernice Williams, age 90, of Appleton, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Appleton Retirement Community. She was born on February 4, 1921 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Michael and Frances (Kugler) Goehler. Bernice attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and completed her sacraments there. On December 6, 1941 she married Clarence P. Williams at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mrs. Williams worked part-time for the Appleton Public School System for seventeen years. She loved being around her family and friends and was always willing to help others.

    Bernice was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughters: Judy (Paul) DeYoung, Appleton; Kay Arndt, Stephensville and Sue Dupont, Darboy; six grandchildren: Jenny DeYoung, and Mike (Tammy) DeYoung; Gary Arndt and Jessie (Laura) Arndt; Clair (Lee) Hammen and Joe (Shannon) Dupont; eight great-grandchildren: Matthew and Nathan DeYoung; Courtney and Robert Arndt; Alexander, William and Josie Hammen; Olivia Dupont; sisters: Ella Bergman, Mt. Calvary; Marie Achterberg, Little Chute; June Bergman, Appleton; Ione Loughrin, Madison; brother: Jerry (Mary) Goehler, Appleton and sister-in-law: Phyllis Goehler, Appleton. Bernice is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; sons-in-law, David Arndt and Joseph Dupont, Jr.; brother, Michael Goehler and brothers-in-law, Carl Bergman, Joe Utschig, Sam Achterberg, Wally Bergman and Cy Loughrin.

    The funeral liturgy for Bernice will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton. Fr. Tony Ibekwe and Deacon Dave DeYoung will be presiding. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of mass.

John H Menting

  • Note: JOHN MENTING, one of the old and honored residents of Buchanan township, Outagamie county, who has been engaged in farming and gardening in this locality for many years, is now carrying on operations on a neat little tract of land in section 24. He was born May 8, 1838, in Holland, the youngest son of the nine children of John and Wilhelmina Menting, who never left their native country. Mr. Menting was thirty-one years of age when he came to the United States, settling in the township of Little Chute in May, 1869. He lived in that township for two years and then came to Buchanan township, where he purchased thirty-three acres of land which was almost all cleared, and in later years he improved the remainder of the property and disposed of twenty-six acres. He works the seven remaining acres and is engaged principally in gardening, although he also rents some land and farms it. Menting is a Democrat in his political views, but has never cared to hold office. With his family he is a consistent attendant of the Catholic Church of Kimberly. In 1874, Mr. Menting was married to Miss Katie Tillman, a native of Wisconsin, whose parents, John and Annie Tillman, were married in this State and spent the balance of their lives here, her mother dying in Shawano county. Menting, who was the third of her parents' nine children, was born February 20, 1854, and died May 29, 1901, being buried at Kaukauna. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Menting: John, of Buchanan township, is married and has seven children; Mary married Herman Janssen, living with Mr. Menting, and has four children; and Henry, living in Niagara, Wisconsin, is married and has one child.
