    James E. Oberweiser, age 88, passed away Sunday evening, May 18, 2008, following a brief illness. He was born August 25, 1919, to the late Charles and Hilda (Arndt) Oberweiser in Menasha and had been Appleton resident for 70 years. Jim served with the U. S. Army during WW II and served in Panama Canal Zone. He married Margaret Rutter in 1949; she preceded him in death in 2001. Jim was employed by Yankee Paper and Specialty Company until the company closed. He then started his own business, Value Papers until his retirement. He was a member of St.Mary Catholic Church.

    He is survived by two sons: Richard (Susan) Oberweiser, Menasha; Donald Oberweiser, Menasha; a grandson, Charles Oberweiser, Ripon; a brother, John (May) Oberweiser, Appleton; three nieces and a nephew.

    The funeral liturgy for James will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, with Father Michael K. O'Rourke officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Menasha. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. Friday, until the time of the mass.

  • Note: Richard J. Oberweiser, age 64, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 7, 2015 with his loving wife Susan by his side. He was born in Appleton on August 23, 1950 to the late James and Margaret (Rutter) Oberweiser.

    Dick worked many long hours as a manager in the bar/restaurant and banquet establishments throughout the Fox Valley, including Alex's Crown, The Pioneer Resort and The Valley Inn in Neenah.

    Dick loved sailboats. All kinds, all sizes. His favorite summer past-time was sailing around Lake Winnebago with his son Charlie in his 16 foot ComPac. Some of his favorite sailing adventures were a Barefoot Caribbean Cruise and the two months he spent as a working crew member on a replica of Christopher Columbus's ship, the NiƱa.

    He loved gardening and had a very large vegetable garden. He also enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes for the vegetables he harvested, the fish he caught, and the deer and game he hunted.

    Dick met his wife Susan Erm at a ballroom dance class and they were united in marriage on June 11, 2003.

    He is survived by his wife Susan; son Charles Oberweiser of Tennessee; two stepsons: Nicholas (April) Sheets of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Brian Sheets of Sherwood; five grandchildren; and a brother Donald (Jill) Oberweiser of Menasha.

    A funeral service for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 528 Second Street, Menasha. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Menasha. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.

Roy R Dare

  • Marriage: He and Elizabeth Rutter were married on August 16, 1947.
  • Death: Roy R Dare died on July 14, 2016, at age 103.
  • Note: Roy R. Dare of Willingboro died Tuesday June 14th at his residence at the age of 93. Born in Menasha, WI, Roy was a longtime Willingboro resident. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in World War II. He was a photographer during the war, photographing many dignitaries, including Gen. Eisenhower. His love of photography continued after the war and turned into a lifelong passion. He would take countless pictures and then develop them in his homemade dark room. He was retired from the James River Corp. where he was employed as a mechanical packaging engineer. While living in Wisconsin, he worked for the Marathon Corp. He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed building dollhouses. He also enjoyed gardening. In his younger years he was quite an adventurer and outdoorsman and for many years enjoyed service to the boy scouts taking eagle scouts on adventures and outdoor treks. He will forever be remembered by his family as someone who loved and cherished his family, particularly his children and grandchildren. He was also very devoted to the memory of his late wife Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Rutter) who passed away in 2006. Roy was also predeceased by his son John Timothy Dare and his sister Rene. He is survived by his children; Alexandra Spellman, Frederick Dare, Aimee Sollenberger, Mary Weber, Lynn Thompson and Patricia Halko, 13 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Roy is also survived by his sister Karen Swiecichowski. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Thursday June 30 in St. Paul R.C. Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington. Interment services with military honors will be held 12:30pm Thursday in the Chapel of the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Provinceline Rd., North Hanover, NJ. No flowers please.     Age 72, died late Saturday, December 20, 1986. He was born September 1, 1914 in Kaukauna and was a life long resident. He worked at Badger Tissue in Kaukauna for 17 years and had been employed by Kaukauna Electric and Water Dept. for 22 years before retirement in 1973 due to ill health. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

    Survivors include his wife Betty Siebers Schaefer; three daughters and sons in-law, Shirley and Allen Vander Loop, Manitowoc; Beverly and Bob Hess, Oak Forest, Illinois; Debbie and Vern Vandenberg, Kaukauna; a son and daughter in-law, Robert and Pat Schaefer, Kaukauna; two brothers, Linus Schaefer and Clayton Vandenbroek, both of Kaukauna; a sister, Mrs. Neil [Rita] Vanderpas, Appleton; 13 grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary; a sister, Mrs. Vince [Helen] Zacharias.

    The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna with the Rev. Theodore Hendricks officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral from 4-9 p.m. Monday. There will be a prayer services at the funeral home.
