    Norbert R. Hawley 223 Broadway Dr. Appleton

    Age 68, loving husband, father, and grandfather has gone to his eternal rest with the Lord, passing away at 8:23 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 1991 following a lenghty illness. He was born July 2, 1923 in Appleton where he was a resident all of his life. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and married Rosella M. Williamsen on August 16, 1945 and they have been happily married for 46 years. Norb has been employed by Foremost Foods for 38 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Mackville, its Holy Name Society. The Oney Johnston-Edward Blessman American Legion Post 38, the Harvey Pierce VFW Post 2778, the Teamsters Local 563 and was a volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul. Dads most important thing in life was his love of his family. He taught us all the true value of life, honesty, giving, caring, and compassion. Everyone loved Dads witty personality. He enjoyed life and loved people. His hobbies included fishing, card playing, wood working, and most of all his love of gardening which he shared with everyone.

    He is survived by his wife Rosie; four daughters and sons in-law, Suzanne and Roger Metz, Delavan, Wisconsin; Betty and John Ashman, Chris and Mike Gassner, Karen and Carl Treml, two son and daughter in-law, Dave and Cindy Hawley, Gary and Mary Hawley, all of Appleton; twelve grandchildren, Kelly and Greg Metz; Christy Ashman; Lori and Katie Gassner; Nicole and Michael Treml; and Brian Hawley; Jessica, Paul and Joe Hawley; two brothers and sisters in-law, Edward Hawley, Ken and Ila Mae Hawley, all of Appleton; many other relatives and dear friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rose [Peters] Hawley; and a sister in-law, Mary Hawley. The complete Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 1991 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Mackville, with Father Ronald Belitz officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wichman Funeral Home 537 N. Superior St. from 4 until 9 p.m. Monday and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at which time the cortege will leave for the church. A prayer and scripture will be held at 7:15 p.m. Monday. An American Legion and VFW visitation will be at 7 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established for the Fox Valley Regional Dialysis Center.

  • Burial: He was buried in St Edward Church, Mackville, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Ken Hawley, age 72, of Appleton, died at his home on Friday, September 2, 2005 with his loving family at his side, following a thirty-year battle with diabetes. Ken was born in Appleton on November 9, 1932, son of the late David "Art" and Rose (Peters) Hawley. As a young man, he worked with his family on the farm near Appleton, and for over twenty years worked at Kool's Brothers in Menasha. Since 1982 he had worked for the Outagamie County Highway Department, and for over twenty-five years was a member of the Grand Chute Fire Department. His number one priority was spending time with his family, and he also enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, and raising pheasants. Everyone will remember the soft spot he had for his dog Buddy, and how he enjoyed his company.

    On May 22, 1957, Ken married the former Ilene "Ila Mae" Meulemans in Wrightstown; she survives. The couple was blessed with eight children: Steve (Sandy) Hawley of Appleton, Dan (Kathy) Hawley of Freedom, Rick Hawley of the Town of Center, Kevin (Kim) Hawley of Shiocton, Brian "Butch" (Cathy) Hawley of Kaukauna, Ken (Stacy) Hawley of Appleton, Doug (Deb) Hawley of Black Creek, and Luann (David) Hopkins of Greenville. He is also survived by twenty five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a very special brother: Edward Hawley of Appleton; three sisters-in-law: Rosie Hawley, Marjorie (LeRoy) Thede, and Marilyn (Don) Stratton, all of Appleton; a brother-in-law: Lloyd (Ann) Meulemans of Black Creek, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Eric Hawley whom he spoke of often, a brother Norbert Hawley, a sister-in-law Mary Hawley, Ilene's parents August and Catherine Meulemans, and two nephews Tom and Michael Meulemans.

    The funeral liturgy for Ken will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at St. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Wisconsin Avenue at Morrison Street in Appleton with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Interment will be in St. Edward Cemetery, Mackville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday and again at the church on Wednesday from 1:30 PM until the hour of the service. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at 7:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

    The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of Ken's caregivers over the past several months, especially to the wonderful people from Theda Care At Home Hospice, especially Kelly, Nancy, Ann, and Tom. Your love and care made it possible for Ken to stay at home. We thank you, and will never forget your kindness. We also want to thank Uncle Eddie, Father Mark, Father Bill, Rita, and our many family members and friends for your prayers and support.

    Dad, you were our inspiration and you taught us so much in life. Even during your illness, you taught us courage, patience, and love. We are so proud of you! We love you, and you will always be in our hearts. You are at peace now. Love, Mom and the kids.

    Grandpa, I am so glad I got to meet you and that I'm your namesake. Love, Kendall.

    Age 61, died unexpectedly at her home. She was born November 5, 1933 in Little Chute, daughter of Henry and Bertha [Vosters] Williamson. She married Allen Nennig May 12, 1962 in Appleton. Mildred enjoyed line dancing, cards, bingo and needlework.

    She is survived by her former husband, Allen Nening, Neenah; two daughters, Lynn Nennig and her fiance Craig Connor, Arizona; Cindy Nennig and her fiance, Bret Mack, Tennessee; four brothers and two sisters in-law, Pete and Marion Williamson, Seymour; Norb and Sally Williamson; Henry Williamson, and Clarence Williamson, all of Appleton; four sisters and three brothers in-law, Rosie Hawley, Maryann and Earl VanDeHey, all of Appleton; Bernice and Henry Maes, Kaukauna; Seil and Carl Hojan, Florida.

    Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Virginia Blair and Elizabeth Williamson; and a brother, Richard Williamson.

    Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 1995 at the Kessler Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the Kessler Funeral Home from 4 p.m. Sunday [tonight] until the time of the service. A memorial has been established.
