  • Death: Benedict Abler died on July 6, 1977, at age 76, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wood Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Funeral services for Benedict Abler, 76, of 1110 Washington St., Wisconsin Rapids, a native of Mt. Calvary, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. He died Wednesday in his sleep.

    Burial was in Rest Park Cemetery, Wisconsin Rapids.
    The last of nine Abler Brothers, he was the son of the late Mathias and Catherine Abler. He married Ethel VanAsten at Wisconsin Rapids, and they observed their golden wedding anniversary on Oct. 27, 1976. Mr. Abler was employed by Wisconsin Rapids Paper Mills until retiring.

    Survivors include his widow; nine children, many grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Germaine Walbur and Mrs. Marie Fox both of Fond du Lac.

    Roger M. Springstroh passed away unexpectedly and entered eternal life into the arms of our dear Lord on November 22, 2017. Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.

    Roger was born on April 15, 1941 to the late Lawrence & Melda (Witt) Springstroh in Brown County and grew up on the family dairy farm on French Road in Freedom. Roger was a lifelong member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, being baptized May 15, 1941 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith May 22, 1955. He attended St. Peter Ev. Lutheran School and Freedom High School, graduating in 1959.

    On December 30, 1961 Roger married Lois Voeks. They had 3 sons, 1 daughter, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Jeffrey Lee (deceased 2012), his children; Corey (special friend Brenda and her daughter, Brianna), Ryan, Travis & Ashlie & children; Parker, Anna, Taylor, & Justin (special friend Mikayla) Springstroh; Randy & Michelle & children Stephanie (special friend Nick) & Isaac; Dan & Christy & children Tyler & Emilie Springstroh; and Kathy & Kevin & daughter, Kourtney Moeller.

    Over the years Roger was employed at Outagamie County Equity, Fox Tractor and last at MCC until his retirement.

    Roger enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandkids and great-grandkids brought so much joy to his life. Roger had a passion for the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing. Gardening, making sausage and making good use of his wild game smoker were other interests of his.

    In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Roger is further survived by brothers; Ron & Marge and Lloyd & Kaye and sister-in-laws: Nancy Springstroh, Jane Van Asten, Elaine Springstroh, & brother-in-law Richard Liewergen and many nieces & nephews.

    Roger is also survived by Lois’ family Helen Johnson, Darlene (Bill) Schroeder and Darrell Voeks.

    Preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeffrey, brothers Richard, Jim (Harv), Larry and sister Janet Liewergen and nephew Christopher Springstroh. Also by Lois’ parents Rhinold & Alice Voeks, sister-in-law Dorothy Schimmelpfenning, nephews Kevin Johnson, Michael Voeks and David Schroeder.

    Roger’s family will receive relatives and friends at St. Peter Lutheran Church, N2740 French Road, Appleton, WI 54913 on Sunday, November 26 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and again on Monday, November 27 from 9:00-10:45 a.m. Service for celebration of Roger’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Glende and Jim Fleming. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Roger’s name. Online condolences may be made at www.verkuilenfh.com.

    Janet Jean Liewergen, age 67, died peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton with her family at her side.

    Janet was born on November 5, 1947 in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Melda (Witt) Springstroh. She was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Fox Valley Lutheran School class of 1965. Janet was united in marriage on August 2, 1969 to Richard M. Liewergen at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Freedom. Janet volunteered for multiple organizations throughout the Fox Valley. She enjoyed watching her birds, flowers, working in the garden and was a great cook. No one ever left there hungry! But her greatest joy was being a Mother, not only to her boys but too many. She cared deeply for her family and friends.

    Janet is lovingly survived by her husband, Richard of 46 years, two sons, David Liewergen, Kaukauna; Daniel Liewergen and Sarah McGrath, Kaukauna; three brothers, Ronald (Marge) Springstroh Appleton, Roger (Lois) Springstroh, Freedom and Lloyd (Kaye) Springstroh, Freedom; a brother-in-law, Jim (Marsha) Liewergen, Greenville; and three sisters-in-law, Nancy and Elaine Springstroh and Jane (John) Van Asten, and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews and a community of very special friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Jim and Larry Springstroh and by two nephews, Christopher and Jeff Springstroh.

    The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, N2740 French Road, Appleton, with the Rev. Timothy Glende officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Janet's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday (tonight) from 5-8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Janet's name.

Larry Lee Springstroh

  • Note: Larry entered eternal life with our dear Lord on April 3, 2013. Larry was a devoted husband, father and grandpa.

    Larry was born on October 7, 1950 to the late Lawrence and Melda (Witt) Springstroh in Brown County and grew up on the family dairy farm in Freedom. He attended St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran School and Freedom High School, graduating in 1969.

    Larry served his country in the United States Army for 2 years (1969-1971). He was stationed in Baumhaulder, Germany, where he worked on heavy equipment.

    On April 18, 1975, Larry married Elaine Resch. They have 3 sons and 8 grandchildren, Rick and Amanda (Hemling) and children, Erik, Crystal and Nathan; Tim and Nicole (Lehrer) and children, Natalee, Luke and Jenna; Scott and Amy (VanDeHey) and children, Kelly and Ben.

    Over the years, Larry worked as a heavy truck technician at Baur Truck and Foreway Express prior to working at MEE as a road service technician.

    Larry was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren brought so much joy to his life.

    Larry was an active member at St. John Lutheran Church, he served on the church council as trustee, served as an usher and helped out in countless other ways. Prior to that, he was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, school board, and assisted in many other ways.

    In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Larry is further survived by brothers: Ron (Marge), Roger (Lois), Lloyd (Kaye) and one sister, Janet (Rich) Liewergen. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Nancy Springstroh and Jane Springstroh VanAsten and many nieces and nephews.

    Larry is also survived by brothers and sisters in-law: Chuck and Audrey Kautza, Dale and Cindy Resch, Milton and Carolyn Mosher, Tim and Rita Resch, Margaret Blanchard, Kathy Chaignot, Al and Marie Benes, Ray and Jo Resch, Gene and Patty Resch, Mary Lex and Pam Resch.

    Preceded in death are his brothers, Richard and Jim "Harve" Springstroh. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Anna Resch of Phlox, WI; brothers-in-law, Tom Blanchard and Lester "Tuffy" Chaignot and his nephews: Christopher Springstroh, Paul Chaignot, Keith Kerstetter and Jeff Springstroh.

    God gave Larry a strong faith; this faith helped him during his daily life but especially during his battle with cancer.

    The Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church N3505 Hwy 47 Appleton, with Revs. Jeffrey Suhr and Micah Martin officiating. Interment will be in Community Lutheran Cemetery, Freedom with military honors. Larry's family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8PM and again on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
