Mary was born in Hollandtown, on Mar. 27, 1900, daughter of the late William and Anna (Glasheen) Campbell. In 1928, Mary married Bert Van Abel in Hollandtown; Bert preceded her in death in 1946. Many will remember Mary as a dedicated and devout Christian woman who dedicated her entire life to the instruction of the young and the raising of her own family. She attended the Outagamie County Normal School and taught elementary school first in Hollandtown and later at Sybil Hoppe School in Green Bay until the time of her retirement. Survivors include two sons, Tom (Jacquelyn) Van Abel and Jim (Marlene) Van Abel, both of Kaukauna; six grandchildren, Gary (Elizabeth) Van Abel and their children, Carolyn, Mary and Michael; Dick (Sue) Van Abel and their sons, Luke and John; Karen (Joe) Meyer and their children, Leah, Laura and Bryan; Mark (Kim) Van Abel and their daughter, Lauren; Amy (Bill) Sarles and their daughters, Molly, Megan and Emily; Craig (Mary) Van Abel and their sons, Joshua and Nicholas. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert in 1946; brothers, Maurice (Hazel) Campbell, Alban (Rachel) Campbell, Harold Campbell, Howard (Gertrude) Campbell and Willard Campbell; and by sisters, Winifred (Charles) Joyce, Olive (John) Milton, Sadie Campbell and Ruth (Tom) Campbell.The funeral liturgy for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at ST.   • Death: Thomas Ralph VanAbel died on November 25, 2011, at age 82, in Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Burial: He was buried in Holy Cross, Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Thomas R. Van Abel, 82, Kaukauna, passed away on Friday morning, Nov. 25, 2011, at his residence. He was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Appleton, to the late Albert and Mary (Campbell) Van Abel. On April 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Jacques at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna.

    Tom was an U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Europe. He was employed by Thilmany Paper for many years until his retirement. Tom was a long-time member of the Kaukauna Elks Club, a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Men's Choir at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hollandtown. He enjoyed golfing and spending the winter months with his wife, Jacque, in Florida, along with their many friends from the Hollandtown area.

    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jacquie; three children, Mark (Kimberly), San Diego; Amy (Bill) Sarles, Mequon; and Craig (Mary), Appleton; six grandchildren, Lauren Van Abel, Molly, Megan and Emily Sarles, Joshua and Nicholas Van Abel; and a brother, James (Marlene) Van Abel.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Van Abel.

    The Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish @ ST. FRANCIS CHURCH, 433 County Rd. CE, Hollandtown with Fr. Willard Van De Loo concelebrating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call directly at church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.   • Death: Jacquelyn Lucille Jacques died on June 28, 2014, at age 80.
  • Note: Jacquelyn "Jacquie" (Jacques) Van Abel, Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2014. She was born January 23, 1934, the daughter of the late Fred and Kitty Jacques, she lived most of her life in Kaukauna. She was the beloved wife of the late Tom for more than 53 years. Jacquie graduated from Kaukauna High School and UW School of Nursing. After many years as an Industrial Nurse at Kimberly Clark, she became a School Nurse for the Kaukauna School System. Her "can do" attitude touched the lives of many in the community. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna.

    She was the loving mother of Mark (Kimberly) Amy (Bill Sarles) and Craig (Mary); the cherished grandmother of Molly, Megan, Emily, Lauren, Josh and Nic; dear sister of Lee and the late Dale and Donnie. She is further survived by sisters-in-law: Sue and Judy Jacques.

    A Memorial Mass for Jacquie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. FRANCIS CHURCH, Hollandtown with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating.   • Note: James E. Van Abel, age 87, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was born on October 11, 1930, son of the late Albert and Mary (Campbell) Van Abel. Jim married Marlene DeLeeuw and together they have celebrated over 61 years of marriage.

    Jim ran the family farm until 1965, and then enjoyed serving his insurance clients for over 30 years until his retirement. Jim was an active member at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Kaukauna for many years, and was in the choir and an usher for 50 years. Jim had a lifelong passion for bowling that started as a pin setter at VanAbel's of Hollandtown at the age of 16. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Jim most valued spending time with his family whether just visiting, or playing a good game of sheephead or cribbage.

    Jim is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Van Abel; children: Gary (Elizabeth) Van Abel, Dick (Sue) Van Abel and Karen (Joe) Meyer; grandchildren: Carolyn (Kyle) Coleman, Mary (David) Lenz, Michael Van Abel, Luke (Michelle) Van Abel, John (Kelsey) Van Abel, Leah (Aaron) Williams, Laura Taggart and Bryan Meyer; great grandchildren: Ella and Adeline Coleman, Elijah Lenz, Joy and Sariah Van Abel and Isla Williams; brothers and sisters-in-law: Betty Courtney, Rosemary Kraus, Clarence (Lois) DeLeeuw and Joyce DeLeeuw; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

    Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary, and his brother, Tom (Jacque) Van Abel.

    Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Mary's Church, 119 W. 7th Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Willie Vande Loo officiating and Pastoral Leader Deacon Steve Vande Hey assisting. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Mr. Glasheen suffered a stroke of paralysis on Wednesday and since that time had been in a critical condition. He was born at Holland, Wis., June 10, 1861 and had been a resident of this city only a few years. He is survived by his wife and four sisters, Mrs. William Dorsey of Center, Mrs. Campbell of Holland, Mrs. James Summers and Mrs. William Farrell of North Dakota.
