F, b. October 25, 1931, d. April 17, 2014

Family: Thomas G Atkinson (b. March 9, 1928, d. June 10, 1988)

Biography

  • Birth: Patricia Ann Liebergen was born on October 25, 1931 in Hurley, Iron Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: She died on April 17, 2014, at age 82.
  • Burial: She was buried in Fort Howard Memorial Park, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Our Dear Lord brought home our beloved mother, during the hour of God's greatest mercy, on Holy Thursday, April 17, 2014. Patricia Ann Atkinson, nee Liebergen, peacefully passed while surrounded by her children, grandchildren and sister. Pleased with the great comfort provided, and hearing the praise of God, the angels awaited completion of the family Rosary, Hail Holy Queen and Prayer to St. Michael before guiding Patsy on her final journey.
Born in Hurley, WI on October 25, 1931, to William F. and Frances M. (O'Keefe) Liebergen, she attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School and Green Bay East High School. She married Thomas G. Atkinson, former Mayor of Green Bay and together they raised six children. She described her life as never having had a dull day.
Patsy exemplified selflessness by daily life. Never seeking the spotlight, she tirelessly worked behind the scene nurturing her husband and children. Between mumps, measles, late night school projects, buying prom dresses and mending socks, jeans, and her children's bruised hearts, she earned a realtor's license, became an expert paid tax preparer, a Girl Scout leader, and served the St. Mary's Guild. She was the quintessential daughter to her parents, wife to her husband and mother to her children.
She hosted fish fries, crab feeds, Fourth of July cottage parties, and holiday gatherings where love and laughter garnished her dishes. Patsy enjoyed her bridge clubs, gardening, Sts. Peter and Paul lunch group, writing poetry, traveling, politics and time with friends. She loved the family Christmas sing along, campfire conversations on the bank of the Suamico River, and all things blue.
Above all, Patsy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Patsy is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas and Mary Atkinson Jr., Patrick Atkinson, the Honorable William M. and Roberta Atkinson, Robin and John Cavil, Michael and Ann Atkinson, Anne and Eric Dellamater; ten grandchildren, Carol Ann (Chad) O'Leary, Thomas (Tanya) Atkinson III, William (Valerie) Atkinson, Matthew (Jenna) Atkinson, Evelyn (Kyle) Ness, Laura (Ryan) Heider, Megan (Adam) Parker, Michael Atkinson Jr., Katie Dellamater, Andrew Dellamater; nine great-grandchildren, Marissa and Makenzie O'Leary, Henry and Heather Atkinson, Charlotte Atkinson, Grace and Matthew Heider, Aidan and Isaac Parker; a sister, Norma Vande Walle; two brothers, David Liebergen, James (Darlene) Liebergen; brother-in-law, Merle Devroy; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; his parents, Dr. Henry and Evelyn Atkinson; her parents, William and Frances Liebergen, brother and sister-in-law, William "Bud" (Delores) Liebergen; two sisters, Rosemary Tronnes and Doris Devroy; brother-in-law, Don Vande Walle; sister-in-law, Joan Liebergen and brother-in-law, Henry Atkinson.
Friends may call at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St., from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. John Girotti officiating.
