    Van Hoof, Clarence H.
    Clarence H. Van Hoof, Town of Freedom, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 27, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 8, 1916, in Freedom, WI, the son of the late Matthew and Anna (Romenesko) Van Hoof. Clarence farmed the Van Hoof Homestead farm from 1938-1969. He worked with Van Hoof painting while farming. Following the sale of his farm he worked in maintenance for St. John School and Outagamie County Highway Dept.
    Clarence was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Parish. He was involved in many parish activities. He enjoyed woodworking, dancing, playing cards, going fishing, but most of all; he enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He married Mildred Ann Ashauer, April 22, 1941; she preceded him in death on December 4, 1958. He married Mabel Fabry on September 28, 1963.
    He is survived by his wife Mabel; nine children: Jerry (Pat), Combined Locks; Mary (special friend Wally), Appleton; Jeanne Middleton, Appleton; Bonnie (Gordy) Johnson, Cambria; Jack (Patti), Appleton; Joe (Dee), DePere; Ann (Dan) Devine, Kris (Bill) Lecker, Ron (Marlene), Appleton; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wally and Ken, Little Chute; a sister, Marie, Freedom; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Rose Corsten and Alice Huisman; and brother-in-law, Alvin Fabry.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; his parents, Matthew and Anna Van Hoof; a sister, Evelyn Nackers; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Van Hoof and Florence Van Hoof; brother-in-law, Russell Nackers; sister-in-law, Evelyn Fabry; brothers-in-law, Tim Corsten, Clarence Huisman and Harry Fabry.
    Clarence's Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2006, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, N4088 County Trunk E, Freedom with Fr. John Schuetze officiating. Friends will be received on THURSDAY at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and again FRIDAY at CHURCH from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family. 920-766-2099.

    1958 Appleton Post Crescent dated 12/5/1958; Mrs. Clarence VanHoof, 37, Freedom, died at Green Bay at 11:45 a.m. Thursday after a long illness connected with a heart ailment. She was born March 7th, 1921, in Kaukauna. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, with burial in the parish cemetery. The rosary will be said at the Greenwood funeral home, Kaukauna, at 8:00 p.m. today. She is survived by her husband; five daughters, Mary Ellen, Jean, Bonita, Anna and Christine, and four sons, Gerald, John, Joseph and Ronald, all at home.

    Age 77, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, August 2, 1993. He was born April 20, 1916 in Freedom, the son of the late Edward and Stella [Garvey] Murphy.

    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores [Etten] Murphy; three daughters and two sons in-law; Janis Murphy, Seatle, Washington; Jeanne and Dan Patenaude, Highland, Wisconsin; Dr. Ann E. Murphy and Brian Curtis, Seattle, Washington; four sons and daughters in-law; Dr. James and Sandra Murphy, Appleton; Dr. William and Lita Murphy, Colchester, Vermont; Michael Murphy Kerry Howard, Juneau, Alaska; Joseph Jr. and Malia Murphy, Freedom; 14 grandchildren; Pamela, Sara, Leann and Patrick Murphy, Michelle Ertle, Nichole Murphy, Renee Murphy, Lisa Cunningham, Rebecca and Katie Patenaude, Joseph III, Shawn and Shannon Murphy, Erin Curtis; three sisters and two brothers in-law; Catherine and John McCormick, Shawano; Lorraine Miller, Seymour; Geraldine and William Jensen, Shawano.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister in-law; Marvin and Alice Murphy, and Gerald Murphy; and a brother in-law; William Miller. Funeral service will be 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, with Rev. Dennis Ryan officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Friends may call at the St. Nicholas Church from 3 p.m. Thursday until the time of service. A memorial fund had been established for St. Nicholas Parish. There will be no visitation at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., Kaukauna.

  • Note: Dolores Susan (Etten) Murphy, age 93, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home with many of her loving family close by on September 23, 2011. Dolores was the fourth of five children for Louis and Mathilda (VanLanen) Etten born on their farm in Greenleaf on July 17, 1918. Louis died very young in 1929, and in 1931 Mathilda met and married George School of Freedom and Dolores gained eight stepbrothers and sisters. Dolores entered Freedom High School in 1931 where she met the love of her life, Joe Murphy. She loved school, was a conference champion in forensics in 1934 and a cheerleader for the basketball team. She graduated in 1935 and they married on April 20, 1937. They farmed first in Oneida and later in Freedom. They were members of Immaculate Conception and then St. Nicholas Parish, Dolores a member of the Christian Mothers and an enthusiastic choir member. She became friends with the nuns at St. Nicholas School and helped them in their convent, chauffeured them to movies and shopping, and made frequent deliveries of homemade bread and cookies.

    Dolores was a 'stay at home mom' and enjoyed working in the home and on the farm. She was a good cook, but an excellent baker of homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, raised doughnuts and pies. Dolores was an expert Sheepshead player and played to win!! Dolores was an avid reader and a lover of poetry. She was a lover of music, singing and dancing whenever she felt the urge. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing clothing for herself, her kids and later, grandkids. When Annie was in high school Dolores began a career in sewing and alterations at J.C. Penney's, and later at Close's in Appleton. Once she retired, she began a hobby of quilt making and crocheted rug making—works of art given to be treasured by her children and grandchildren.

    Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Joe, as well as two sisters and brothers-in-law: Grace and Woodrow Diehl, Pearl and Cliff Rosera, and a brother and sister-in-law: Marvin and Jane Etten. She is survived by her brother Earl, her children Dr. James and Sandra Murphy of Stuart, Florida; Dr. William and Lita Murphy of Colchester, Vermont; Zelda Murphy of Galena, Missouri; Jeanne and Dan Patenaude of Butternut, Mike and Kerry Howard-Murphy of Juneau, Alaska; Joe and Malia Murphy of Freedom and Dr. Annie Murphy and Brian Curtis of Silverdale, Washington. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren: Pamela, Sara, Leann and Patrick Murphy, Michelle Ertle and Nicole Murphy, Renae Keep and Lisa Cunningham, Rebecca Baron and Katie Rybak, Joseph Murphy, III, Shawn Briggs and Shannon Kieler, Erin and Andrew Curtis. She will be missed by twelve great grandchildren: Evan Capelle, Ciara and Nathan Ertle, Tristin Houston, Penelope Keep, Hannah and Rachel Baron, Alayna and Sydney Rybak, Rory and Ian Kieler and Gavin Briggs as well as very many special nieces and nephews.

    The funeral liturgy for Dolores will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2011 at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Freedom with Fr. Dave Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service.

    The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Flambeau Home Health and Hospice in Phillips, Wisconsin. It is with their loving assistance that Dolores was able to end her life at home.
