    Mirsberger, Joseph M.
    Joseph M. Mirsberger, age 88, of St. John, passed into eternal life unexpectedly, but peacefully December 19, 2008, and is now resting comfortably in the arms of the Lord. Joseph was the first born son of Joseph Sr. & Mary (Kees) Mirsberger on June 3, 1920, on their family farm. He married the love of his life, Helen Nytes, December 27, 1945, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hollandtown. Together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage and happily raised 10 children while farming, on the family farm, one mile south of St. John. Together with Helen, Joe enjoyed lending his voice to the St. John choir, square danced with the Squares & Spares, and volunteered time at the New Holstein Salvatorian Center. Joseph was a life member of St. John the Baptist Church, St. John Holy Name Men, Catholic Knights Branch 148 and Knights of Columbus. Joseph was the past president of the St. John Cemetery Association, member of National, State, and County Holstein Breeders, and was the past president on the County level. He received the Calumet Farmer of the Year award in 1979. He received the National Progressive Holstein Breeder award 1955-1957. Joe had a fine eye for quality Holstein cattle and was the barn superintendent for the Calumet County 400 Sale. Joseph recently moved to Century Ridge Assisted Living Center in Chilton and enjoyed the staff and new friends he made. He continued to play cards with his pals on Wednesdays. He also continued to enjoy watching his grand and great-grandchildren's school sports. Joe closely followed the Badger's and Packer's football teams along with Lawrence & Coe University basketball where his grandson coaches.
    Survivors include Joseph's 10 children: JoAnne (Paul) Juckem, Chilton; Kathy (Anthony) Van Handel, Appleton; Gary (Sandra) Mirsberger, Hilbert; Mary Jo Palmbach, De Pere; Carol (Dale) Hedtke of Menasha, Linda (Dave) Franz, Hilbert; Ruth (Dan) Schwalenberg, Hilbert; Paula (Dave) Schneider, Hilbert; Joyce (Dale) Hackbarth, Darboy; Larry (Barb) Mirsberger, Hilbert; 22 precious grandchildren: Patrick, Christopher, Sue, Shane, Lori, Ryan, Nick, Sarah, John, Jolynn, Kayla, Tate, Ben, Dana, Leah, Luke, Joel, Justine, Alaina, Dylan, Angela, and Kylee; 14 great-grandchildren: Emmett, Gavin, Macy, Lily, Micah, Austin, Trey, Paige, Brittany, Kendra, Amelia, Allieson, Blake, and Boyd; brothers: Edward (Marion) Mirsberger, Hilbert; and Robert (Julie) Mirsberger, Poughquag, New York; and sisters-in-law: Edith Nytes and Clara Radamacher.
    Joseph was preceded in death by his dear wife Helen on April 13, 1997; sisters: Verena Rossmeier, Armella Doherty, and Sr. Helen Mirsberger; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
    Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at St. John Catholic Church in St. John. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W Main St., Chilton) from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2008, and on Saturday at church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. when. A vigil will take place at the funeral home at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Age 42, died unexpectedly Monday at Woodruff, Wisconsin, the result of a boating accident. He was born April 13, 1941 in Rhinelander. Mr. Walkowski was employed at Appleton Papers Inc. as a supervisor. He had been associated with softball teams in the area.

    Survivors include his wife, Nancy Van Handel Walkowski; three sons, Todd, New Mexico; Rick and James Jr., both at home; two daughters, Tracy and Marcia, both at home; his parents, Harry and Sylvia Walkowski, Rhinelander; two brothers, Robert and Greg, both of Rhinelander; two sisters, Mrs. John [Carol] Fieury, Rhinelander; and Mrs. Jerry [Sue] Roberts, Monico, Wisconsin.

    The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rhinelander, with the Rev. George Votruba officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Hildebrand Funeral Home, Rhinelander, from 4-8p.m. Wednesday.
