  • Note: Gretchen Biese, 84, Combined Locks, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2010, at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute. Gretchen was born in Combined Locks, on October 31, 1925, daughter of the late Nicholas and Agnes (Yingling) Lom, one of the founding families of the Village of Combined Locks. She was a 1943 graduate of St. John High School in Little Chute, and on April 11, 1953, she married Robert H. Biese in Combined Locks.

    Gretchen enjoyed flower gardening, baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and extended family. Gretchen was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks.

    In her younger years, she was employed for 15 years at Kimberly-Clark in the Research and Development Department, before leaving to raise her family. She also enjoyed bowling, camping, vacationing at Roberts Lake and baking lamb cakes for special occasions at the church.

    Gretchen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Biese, Combined Locks; two children, Gregory R. (Penny) Biese, Appleton, and their children, Cortney Biese, Matthew Biese, Cara Biese and Michael Biese; and Mary Margaret L. (David) Eisley, Oshkosh, and their children, Benjamin (Elise) Eisley, Katherine (Tyler) Jandrin, Philip Eisley, Anne Eisley and Kenneth Bruski-Eisley and his fiancee, Desiree; and two great-grandchildren, Mercedes and Azailya Bruski. There are also two sisters, Betty (Glen) Aerts, Kimberly; and Ione Jansen, Combined Locks; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Raymond Behling, Combined Locks; Dorothy Biese, Kimberly; and Grace Garvey, Freedom.

    She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, Johanna (Jack) Siegel, Alfred (Vera) Lom, Rachel (Richard) Janssen, Rodney (Helen) Lom, Barbara (Clarence) DeCoster, Lorraine (John R.) Jansen, Clifford (Mary) Lom and Stena Behling; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin Biese, Beatrice Van Epern, Therese (Eugene) Van Deurzen, Rosemary (Jack) Mulry, Lester Jansen and Robert "Buzz" Garvey.

    The funeral liturgy for Gretchen will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

    The family would like to extend their thanks to the Care Ministers from St. Paul Parish, her newfound and special friends at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute, as well as to the Heartland Hospice caregivers for the exceptional love and care they showed to Gretchen during her illness.

    Garvey, Robert J. "Buzz" Robert J. Garvey "Buzz," Freedom, age 79, died peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2006, at his cottage at Lee Lake. He was born June, 15, 1927, to the late Patrick and Margaret (Murphy) Garvey in Oneida, WI. He married the former Grace Biese on June 15, 1949, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Buzz worked as a dairy farmer from 1949 until 1976 in Freedom. He and Grace owned and operated Buzz's Bowl in Freedom from 1971 until they sold it in 1986. Buzz was on the Freedom School Board from 1970-1976 and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Chapter 8061. He enjoyed time with family and friends at the Cottage, sheephead with the Tuesday afternoon card club, golf with the Kelly Lake Mulligan Crew, numerous Canadian fishing trips and bowling over the years with his many friends with his Holstein ball. Buzz touched many people over the years and his significant contribution as an organ donor will assure that his generosity will increase the strength, mobility and independence of many people.

    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace Garvey of Freedom; their nine children, 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Al (Joyce) Garvey of Freedom and their two children, Jodi (Greg) Hofacker and their three children: Collin, Caden and Carson, and Jennifer (Todd) Greiner and their two children, Sage and Gavin; Lee (Linda) Garvey of Freedom and their three children: Gina (Jason) Rose and their two children, Kaylie and Kirsten, Nate Garvey and Katie (special friend, Mike Dercks) Garvey; Bob (Karen) Garvey of Townsend, WI, and their three children: Bobbi (Rod) Van Eperen and their son, Owen, Karly (special friend Ben Ploederl) Garvey and Brittany Garvey; Dave (Joanna) Garvey of Hiram, Georgia and their two children, Alyssa and Samantha; Cheryl (Gary) Hooyman of Shiocton and their three children: Trisha (Chad) Reader and their two children, Trevor and Alexia, Tami Hooyman and Scott Hooyman; Jeff and Sue Garvey of Freedom and their three children: Craig, Briana and Kalyn; Peggy (Bill) Gonnering of Freedom and their three children: Adam (special friend Amber Van Handel) Gonnering, Megan (special friend Nick Van Handel) Gonnering and Travis Gonnering; Laurie (Jay) Vande Wettering of Freedom and their two children, Angie (Ryan) Polenz and Kyle (special friend Ashley Van Vreede) Vande Wettering; and Patrick (fiance Beth Kreischer) Garvey and children: Chloe Garvey, Desiree and Shawn Kreischer. He is further survived by four sisters-in-law: Florence Garvey, Rosemary Garvey, Linda Garvey and Dorothy Biese; brother and sister-in-law, Bob (Gretchen) Biese; two Godchildren, Tim Garvey and Dan Biese; and many friends, nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Henry (Matilda) Biese, brothers: Mike Garvey, Bill Garvey and Jim Garvey, sister and brother-in-law, Irene (Orville) Appleton and additional brother and sisters-in-law, Melvin Biese, Beatrice Van Epern, Therese (Eugene) Van Deurzen and Rosemary (Jack) Mulry.

    The Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom, with Fr. John Schuetze officiating. Friends will be received on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna, and again on Tuesday at Church from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Appleton's Highland Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established in his name. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family. 920-766-2099.

    Phyllis T. Brandtmeier, 65, Menasha, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Appleton. She was born on May 16, 1950, in Neenah, the daughter of Sylvester and Marie (Rieschl) Wimberger. Phyllis was united in marriage to David Reuben Brandtmeier at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha, on August 10, 1974. She enjoyed sewing, baking, planting flowers, doing in home daycare, and spending time with her family. Phyllis was a member of St. Mary Parish, Menasha.

    Phyllis is survived by her husband David; 3 daughters: Angela (Travis) Techlin, Heather (Lee) Stingle, and Kayla Brandtmeier; 3 grandsons: Kenneth III, Noah, and Dillin; a sister: Mary (special friend Bill Holt) VanLankvelt; 3 brothers: Cyril "Wimpy" (Nancy) Wimberger, Jim and John Wimberger; a sister-in-law: Barb Wimberger; and many other relatives and friends.

    Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Joe Wimberger.

    Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah, with Fr. Larry Seidl officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions are appreciated in Phyllis' name.

    Phyllis' family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff on the 3rd Floor East, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for their care, kindness, and compassion.
