Thomas L. Guilfoyle, age 79, Appleton, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Appleton Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born September 19, 1933, in Kaukauna, son of the late Wesley and Louise (Merckx) Guilfoyle. Tom graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1951 and served in the Army in Germany from 1955-1958. When he returned from the service, he went through an apprenticeship and worked as a steamfitter until his retirement. On July 16, 1969, Tom was united in marriage to Alice Wagner. He loved to fish and hunt, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandsons, who adored him. He was a great teacher with a wealth of knowledge and talents that he shared. We will always remember his strength, advice and his never ending dedication to ensure that we had everything that we needed and then some. Tom was selfless and would give "anyone" the shirt off his back at any time. His memories will be with us forever in our hearts. He loved life and his love and humor were undeniable - as a true Irishman. Tom also loved to travel. He and Alice traveled to many countries before and after they retired.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Alice of almost 44 years; five children: Peggy (Bill) Spreeman, Patty Guilfoyle, Tim (Cindy) Guilfoyle, Jeanne (Bill) Shavlik-Bork and Tom Guilfoyle; grandchildren: Matthew, Willie and Casey (Chelsea) Spreeman, Brendton Mack, Weston Guilfoyle, Connor and Ryan Shavlik, Adam and Ashlee Bork; great-grandchildren: Shea and Cooper Spreeman, Jayden and Melody Bork; and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by a sister, Judy Killian and a sister-in-law, Helen Guilfoyle; brother-in-law, John (Donna) Wagner; sisters-in-law: Marie Wagner, Sr. Lorraine Wagner SSSF, Joan Henning and Ann Schneider.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Jim and infant brother, Billy; brothers and sisters-in-law: Norman and Kathleen Wagner, Celine and Don Casper, Ethel and John Haase, David Wagner, Jerome Henning and Richard Schneider. He was also preceded in death by the Mother of his children, Margaret A. Guilfoyle.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Verkuilen Funeral Home, 101 Canal St., Little Chute. A time of gathering for family and friends will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service. A memorial has been established in Tom's name.

Tom's family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful caregivers, pastoral counselors, and staff at AMC for their wonderful care at this difficult time. We would also like to thank the staff at Encircle Health for their love and wonderful care. A special thank you to his INR nurse, Dawn Boots.

Tom's love for his wife and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his smile, laughter and sense of humor, will forever remain in our memories. Tom, you were taken from us too soon but you will remain in our hearts until we see each other again. All our love, we will miss you. Rest in peace.
