    Age 85, died Thursday, May 16, 1991. She was born May 28, 1905 in the Town of Vandenbroek. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna [Menting] Van Gompel. She married the late John Johnson in 1923, who preceded her in death in 1956. She married Leo Powless in 1960, he preceded her in death in 1969. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Little Chute Golden Agers.

    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dalores and Lloyd Moser, Freedom; four sisters, Catherine [Ervin] Johnson, Manitowoc; Theresa [Clarence] Dietzen, Appleton; Leone Van Gompel, Appleton; Germaine [Marvin] Smith, Appleton; two sisters in-law, Florence [Willard] Van Gompel, Appleton; Marcia [Frank] Kabas, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Michael and Betty Moser, Freedom; Jeffrey and Donna Moser, Sheboygan Falls; 11 great grandchildren;

    She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Willard, Omar; two sisters, Clara Thurber and Helen Heckel.

    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday from St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute with the Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services. There will be a parish prayer service at 8 P.m. Friday.

    Age 70, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at his residence. He was born May 15, 1909 in Little Chute. He had been employed at Badger Northland until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Van Gompel was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Florence Arnoldussen Van Gompel; a son, Willard Jr., Appleton; a brother, Elmer, Alabama; seven sisters: Mrs. Katherine Johnson, Egg Harbor; Mrs. Marie Powless and Mrs. Clarence (Clara) Thurber, both of Little Chute; Mrs. Clarence (Theresa) Dietzen, Leone Van Gompel, Mrs. Marvin (Germaine) Smith, Mrs. Harold (Helen) Heckel, all of Appleton; three granddaughters: Julie, Jenny and Katy. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Omer. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home from 4 until 9 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday until the cortege leaves for the church. There will be a prayer and scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

    Smith, Germaine M. "Geri" Germaine M. Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was born in Little Chute on August 31, 1920, a daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Menting) VanGompel. Germaine married Marvin H. Smith on September 30, 1947. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Germaine was very proud of the fact that she attained her GED Diploma. She was an avid Packer fan, animal lover and also loved tending to her garden and her loving husband Marvin. She will always be remembered for "always being at home" when needed most. She was a very faithful wife, mother, Christian woman. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Germaine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marvin; two sons: James (Debbie) Smith of Little Chute; and Ronald (Mimi) Smith of Chicago; four daughters: Patricia (Joseph) Brinsko of Winneconne; Karen (John) Derks of Appleton; Barbara (Michael) Dercks of Sobieski; and Jayne (Mark) Ziegler of Hortonville; 16 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Germaine is further survived by many dear friends and special nieces: Delores Moser and Doris Dietzen. She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters: Catherine Johnson, Marie Powless, Clara Houle, Helen Heckel, Theresa Dietzen, and Leona Van Gompel; three brothers: Elmer, Omer and Willard Van Gompel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Germaine at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2006, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald Street, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. The family of Germaine would like to send a heart felt thank you to Dr.William Guenther and everyone at the Martha Seikman Cancer Center.     Marvin was born March 16, 1923, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Henry and Harriet (Verhagen) Smith. He was united in marriage to Germaine Van Gompel on September 30, 1947, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2006. They were blessed with six children. Prior to his retirement, Marv was a semi driver for CW Transport.

    Marv and Germaine were original and active members at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. They enjoyed going to area restaurants for dinner and socializing. He had a green thumb for gardening and growing roses. Marv was a huge Packer fan too!

    Survivors include his sons: Ronald (Mimi) Smith, Chicago, and James (Debbie) Smith, Little Chute; three daughters: Patricia (Joseph) Brinsko, Winneconne, Barbara (Michael) Dercks, Sobieski, and Jayne (Mark) Ziegler, Hortonville; a son-in-law, John Derks, Kaukauna; there are 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and two brothers: Jerome Smith (special friend, Charlene), of Neenah, and Joseph (Arlene) Smith, Menasha. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Derks, two brothers, Wilford and Clyde, and Annaceil, his sister.

    The funeral mass for Marvin will be celebrated Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A memorial fund in Marvin's honor is being established.

    The family wishes to express a special thanks to all the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living.

  • Note: Merlin E. "Merle" "Uncle Pete" Weyers, 71, Kimberly, passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2013 at his home. Merle was born December 11, 1942 in Kimberly Wisconsin to Jacob "Pinky" and Elizabeth (Hietpas) Weyers. He was a 1961 graduate of Kimberly High School. He served his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War. On October 4, 1968 he married Anita Wiese at St. Paul Catholic Church in Plainfield Wisconsin and they enjoyed over 45 years together. He was a longtime employee of NewPage (formerly Kimberly-Clark) until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Kimberly. Merle loved to spend time at the family cottage. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially liked hunting and fishing. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and NASCAR.

    He will be sadly missed by his wife Anita, children; Kellie (Erich) Kocher, Appleton, Tammy (Keith) Wenzlaff, Appleton, Sherry (special friend Ron Hartjes) Weyers, Manawa and Christa Weyers, Kimberly, grandchildren; Matt, Leah and Emily Kocher, Zach and Jacob "Jake" Wenzlaff, Amanda Hartjes; his dog and faithful companion Brandi, sister Waneta (Ron) Van Boxtel, Ft. Meyers Florida, brother Wayne Weyers, West Bend and the Friday Night Fish Crew; John and Nancy, Donna and George and Vonnie as well as many other relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Dennis Thome, brother Eugene "Gene" Weyers, sister-in-law Betty Weyers-Burns, twin nephews John and Joseph Weyers, Anita's parents Everett and Hilda Wiese.

    Memorial Services will be held on Saturday January 4, 2014 at 11:30 am with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating at Holy Spirit/Holy Name Church, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly Wisconsin. Military Honors to follow immediately. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday January 4, 2014 from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.

    The family would like to thank the first responders and staff of Fox Valley Metro for the assistance they gave. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
