  • Note: Edith M. Johnson, age 88 of the Township of Union, Waupaca County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by members of her family at her home on Wednesday, August 28, 2013.

    Edith was born on January 14, 1925 in the Township of Caledonia, Waupaca County, the daughter of the late Harvey and Pearl (Laib) Gorges. She was raised as well as helping to raise her brothers and sisters on the Gorges dairy farm south of New London. Edith became a school teacher and in 1943 taught at the Crystal Fountain School near Fremont. On June 28, 1947, she became united in marriage to Harold Johnson at St. John's Lutheran Church, Township of Caledonia. The couple lived in New London a short where Edith was currently teaching school. In 1950, the couple moved to their farm in the Township of Union, where they have since lived. Edith took time off of teaching to raise her family. In 1961, she continued her teaching career in the communities of Big Falls and Marion until retirement. Edith was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Symco, where she was involved with the Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the Marble Homemakers and participated and supplied information for the book, Rural Schools of Waupaca County. Other interests included reading, baking, quilting and playing cards (especially Thirteen & Sheephead). She and Harold enjoyed their cottage at Pelican Lake, where Edith became quite a fisherwoman. They also enjoyed world traveling together. Edith's love and laughter will be missed by the many lives she touched.

    Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Harold; her daughters, DeAnna (Thomas) Hannigen, Avondale, PA; Bonnie (Daniel) Schoepke, Rib Mountain, WI; Judith Will, Appleton; her grandchildren, Robert, Sarah & Katherine Hannigen, Dustin & Jonathon Schoepke, and Jason & Timothy Rice; her great-grandchildren, Devon, Bryant, Talia, Kaeleigh, Ellianna & Easton Rice; her sisters, Marcia (Rodney) Seefeldt, New London; her brothers, Delton (Judy) Gorges, Art (Noni) Gorges and Douglas (Janice) Gorges, New London; her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Gorges, Weyauwega; Ginny Gorges, Betty Gorges and Patricia Gorges, New London; Jeanette Hanson, Cuba, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Randall; her sister, Norma Jean (Myron) Gruenwald; her brothers, Lawrence, Marlin, Victor, Vernon, Junior, Roland, & Leland Gorges; her brothers-in-law & sister-in-law, Warren Hanson and Orville (Arlene) Johnson.

    Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Symco, with the Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville.

  • Note: Harold G. Johnson, age 95 of the Township of Union, passed away Tuesday, March 25th 2014 at the Appleton Medical Center.

    Harold was born September 10th 1918 in the township of Union, Waupaca County, to the late George and Erna (Hein) Johnson. Growing up on the family's "Marble Valley Dairy Farm," his youth was spent engaging in both hard work and spirited play. A life-long member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Symco, Harold was confirmed and remained active in many groups and committees. After graduating from Clintonville High School, he continued to work with his dad on the farm. In 1942, Harold joined the war effort and chose to serve his country by working with a radio intercept company in the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge, he moved to New London and began working at the Ford dealer in town. Harold re-kindled a relationship from his younger years with Edith Gorges during his time in New London, becoming husband and wife on June 28th 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church, town of Caledonia. The couple resided in New London until 1950, when Harold purchased Marble Valley Dairy from his mother and father. Dairy farming was his life for the next 36 years. During those years, Harold remained a loving husband and was blessed with three daughters and a son. Harold enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing trips, hunting, traveling abroad, and card games. After retirement, he found time to perfect his gardening skills and explore his interest in forestry, receiving recognition for sustainable forestry methods. Harold will always be remembered as a loving husband, proud father, terrific listener, and an environmentally conscious human being. He will be missed and lovingly remembered.

    His great-grandchildren: Devon, Bryant, Talia, Kaeleigh, Ellianna & Easton Rice

    His sister: Jeanette Hanson

    As well as, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Edith, his son, Randall, and his brother Orville.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday March 29, 2014 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Symco, with the Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville; with military honor rites provided by members of the Clintonville American Legion Post #63 and VFW Post #664.

    Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 until the time of the service.

  • Note: Rodney Harvey Seefeld "Rod", age 73, of New London, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 at ThedaCare Hospital in Neenah. Rod was born on March 6, 1944 to the late Harvey and Gertrude (Schneider) Seefeld in New London. He served in the US Army from 1962-1965. He was united in marriage to Marcia Gorges on June 12, 1965. Rod worked at Curwood in New London for 41 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 263 and a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Rod loved farming, deer hunting, Allis Chalmers tractors, Polka music, snowmobiling and four wheeling.

    Rod is survived by his wife Marcia; sons, Curt (Deb) Seefeld and Todd (Brenda) Seefeld; daughter, Tammy (Steve) Paters; granddaughter, Sarah (Ross) Miller and grandson, Sawyer (special friend Christina) Seefeld; sister, Sandy Danke; brothers-in-law, Delton (Judy) Gorges, Art (Noni) Gorges and Doug (Janice) Gorges and sisters-in-law, Pat Gorges and Bette Gorges. Rod is further survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    Rod was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Harvey and Pearl Gorges; grandparents, Carl and Elsie Schneider and Paul and Hattie Seefeld; brothers and sisters-in-law, Laurence (Phyllis) Gorges, Harold (Edith) Johnson, Marlin (Ginny) Gorges, Victor (Joyce) Gorges, Vernon Gorges, Junior Gorges, Gene (Jeannie) Gruenwald, Roland Gorges, Leland Gorges and Lyle Gorges.

    A memorial service for Rod will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Pastor Mark Tiefel will be officiating. Visitation will take place from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in New London.

    The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at ThedaCare in Neenah.

    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
