Biography

  • Birth: Elizabeth J Hoerl was born on July 22, 1927 in Marshfield, Wood Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: She died on November 27, 2015, at age 88.
  • Note: Elizabeth J. (Betty) Davis, age 88 of Marinette, WI (formerly Appleton, WI) passed away at home November 27, 2015. Born July 22, 1927, in Marshfield, WI to Andrew and Mayme (Schuh) Hoerl. Betty received a B.S. in Medical Technology from UW-Madison in 1949, and practiced at hospitals and clinics in Chicago, Janesville, and Madison. In 1950, she married John V. Davis, and their long and happy marriage lasted for 63 years until John's death in 2013. While raising five children in Appleton, WI, Betty found time to actively volunteer for a variety of organizations, including the AARC, the American Red Cross blood bank, church-sponsored programs, and local political efforts. Betty was an accomplished bridge player, and also enjoyed sailing, bowling and golf. She was an avid tennis player, both at home and during their winters in Florida. She loved music, attending musicals and playing the piano and violin. She and John enjoyed traveling, bird-watching and exploring scenic places in North America and Europe. In 2007, John and Betty moved to Shadow Lake in Waupaca, where they spent summer evenings exploring the lakeshore in their canoe. In 2011, they moved to Marinette, WI and were able to enjoy many great times before she lost her husband John and son Paul. She lived with her daughter Kathryn and husband Phil, who lovingly cared for her during her last years at home along with the equally generous and loving time commitment of her daughter Judy. Our mother also benefited from the kind and attentive support of her many caregivers, volunteers and friends. We especially could not have managed without you; Angie, Sandy, Donna, Carol, Barbara, Darlene and Katie. Thank you so very much and also thank you to the many people who shared in our lives these last few years.

Survived by daughters Ellen Davis (Mark Klein) Almond, WI, Kathryn Hager (Phil Karjala) Marinette, WI, Susan Davis, St. Paul, MN, Judy Coats, Madison, WI; grandchildren Dylan, Noah (Liz), Jackson (Cayetana), Carmen, Garrett and Madison; great-grandchildren Quentin, Tyrese, Mila and Ella. She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Paul, her parents and her siblings Marcella, Leah, Bertram and Kenneth. Beloved by all for her compassion, intellect, sense of humor, and thoughtful concern for the needs of her family and her community. Betty will be deeply missed. A private gathering will be held for Elizabeth, John and Paul. Cards may be directed to the Marinette home, and memorials are planned for Wisconsin Public Television.
