  • Note: Burton E. Belling, age 95, of Neenah passed away on Saturday evening, October 31, 2015 at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center as the result of a brief illness. He was born on July 4, 1920 in Appleton, Wisconsin, son of the late Albert and Emily (Adams) Belling. On August 30, 1941 he married Mabel Lopas in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. The couple celebrated 19 years of marriage before Mabel’s passing in April, 1960. Burton was proud to serve his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Kimberly Clark in 1982 after over 40 years of service. Burt loved cars, racing, woodworking, watching parades, and photography. He was a decent, quiet, and modest man, who will be greatly missed by his family.

    He is survived by his children: Michael (Judy) Belling, Neenah, Janet Belling, Neenah, David Belling, Hayward, WI, Barbara Belling, Madison; granddaughter, Rebecca (Steve) Abler, Manitowoc; great grandsons: Matthew and Benjamin Abler; and a special family friend, Connie Meek, Hayward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kathy Belling; 6 brothers; 3 sisters.

    A private family service for Burt will be held. He will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in his name.

    The family would like to thank the staffs of: 5th floor at Theda Clark, ThedaCare at Home Hospice; Oakridge Gardens for all of your care and compassion throughout Burt’s illness.

  • Death: He died on January 16, 2010, at age 85, in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co, Idaho.
  • Note: John S. Vandenberg, 85, resident of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away Jan. 16, 2010, at home. He was born on Sept. 30, 1924, in Kearney, Neb., to John Sr. and Elizabeth Vandenberg.

    He lived on his grandfather's farm with his parents, two brothers and a sister. In 1936, they moved the family to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where they purchased a farm. John graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1942
    .
    During WWII, John enlisted in the Army in May 1943 and shortly thereafter shipped off to the South Pacific serving in the 1st Cavalry Medical Corps in the Marshall Island and the Philippines. He received several campaign medals for his actions. After his discharge in December 1945, he enrolled at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in forestry. Following his education, he went to work for the U.S. Forest Service where he held many positions during his 30-year career and retired as a Timber Management Supervisor in 1976.

    During his retirement years, he and his longtime friend Jim Risley, traveled the western U.S. and he liked spending the warm winters in Arizona. John had many talents and interests including watercolor painting and using his computer skills to work on genealogy.

    Anyone meeting John enjoyed his company and soon realized how intelligent, kind and what a wonderful honest person he was. All of us who knew and loved John will forever miss him.

    John is survived by two sisters; Mary Speed of Spanaway, Wash., and Eunice Dinning and husband Lavern of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He is also survived by sisters-in-law; Irene Vandenberg of Coeur d'Alene and sister inlaw Marian Vandenberg of Bonners Ferry, numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marvin and Dewayne.
